my very humble opinion is that this guy was dead much less than 6 months. his tattoos were that well preserved and they think he might have been dead 2 yrs? no way.

according to research, tattoos can stay until stage 3 decomp. and even in some cases after. so yes, while florida environs probably accelerate decomp in general, not unneccessarily true that tattoos wouldn't exist.

NAMUS does also indicate they found skeletal remains..and images do suggest that only parts of tattoo were remaining.

I am not an expert, JMHO, but I would think they have some rationale for saying 6 months to 2 years...maybe extrinuating circumstances/conditions at the site suggest slower rate of decomp?

I have been told by LE in another case that they can determine how long the remains have been there by soft tissue in the skeleton. I think they said that if there is soft tissue the skeleton is less then a year old. I'm sure there is other factors of decomposition, insect larve, etc,etc that they use.

Here's part of the email " this skeleton has only been out in the elements for an estimated 6 to 12 months as evidence by the presence of some soft tissue"

not listed on rule out, timeline good, clothing a match and height similar. unfortunately, no notes about glasses (which could be a red herring), dental bridges or tattoos.

Commenting on my own thoughts here, there is a motorcycle group called "the Pharaohs" that was started in the mid 80's in Missouri.

There seemed to be 100s of 'gangs' back then, and Florida was a particular problem. They were very much outside the law and killed anyone in another gang that was on their turf or anyone in their own gang that was seen talking to other gangs or police. Six months after our UID was found another 5 gang members (4 guys and a girl) were also shot close by. There has been quite a effort by the police to stop/break up gang mentality in the last 30-40 years which seems to have been quite effective. The majority of biker gangs today are ageing rocker / young nice guys that just enjoy motorcycles - and there are a lot fewer of them.

Our UID appears to be outside the-gang-of-the-time-mentality. He had quality tattoos (we see them a lot today but not so much back then). He had quality and expensive bridgework and overall he appears to have been 'well kept'.

IF he was a biker, whether a loner or part of a gang, I wonder if the police have gone through arrest reports around that time?

Here's a "Randy" that went missing around 1987-1989 (if the uid was really a Randy) :

Randal Voss, California 1988, 29 years old (wasn't reported missing until 2006)
Randal Richard Voss – The Charley Project

About the right age, size, build, hair color. Interesting that he wasn't reported missing until 2006, that may have meant not too many were missing him at the time I suppose, who knows where he could have traveled and done between 1988 and when the body of the UID was found. His picture kind if resembles the UID sketch

Are those Doc Martin shoes oe boots? (images)

Also, the pants-zooming in (click on the image) it looks to me like the name Randy could be the design/style name of work pants. Ex used to wear work pants/uniforms when he built mobile homes in late 80's and I don't believe his name was embroidered in there like that.

Randolph Sedlack?

I've not submitted this to Pasco - but I have emailed Detective Boyer to suggest that he watch this thread.
I have dropped a quick email to Namus - DNA on file for both so should be a quick rule out.

Randy Sedlack is being quick rule out in one day after your post.

good call on the pants, kind of thought the same thing.

the boots look pretty biker/cowboy to me without the iconic DM sole stitching that was almost exclusive to DM in the 80s (long time DM fan). Also don't remember the old school DM having that style heel, and it doesn't look like traditional rubber used by DM.

interesting to note it was a sleeveless shirt...might suggest a warmer month, or that the UID was not on a bike.

So, the label in the pants is from a company that manufactures a lot of different kind of uniforms, but from their website, they are a 'family owned business', so hopefully, they keep good records. (National Uniform Services) I wonder if they can tell us anything about the type of label that is in the pants? Does "Randy" perhaps refer to the style of pants (I didn't know men's clothing named them cute things like that :waitasec: ), or would they perhaps have made pants with a specific person's name inside? I took pictures of the label, enlarged it so that it is easy to see, and I emailed the company to ask them what the label means. I will let you guys know if I hear anything back.

I meant to attach an enlarged picture of the label in the pants. Here it is...

Does anyone else think that the label may not say "Randy?" It looks like Nandy or Handy to me. Could it be the name of a business or a last name?

28 Inch inseam - not a long-legged man. Namus estimates height at 66" (5' 6") - I'm an inch or so taller than 5' 6" and my inseam is 34" to 36" - I'm female but I would think that a 28" inseam at 5' 6" would be rather short-legged? Unless the work pants were rather short for him.
Also, we had a company that used a linen/uniform/laundry service. They sometimes printed the name of individuals on a "twill" type label - they weren't embroidered, just printed on the fabric (or stamped) so that they guys would keep track of the uniforms/pants/jackets that were issued to them. When they returned the uniform, the laundry service would just replace the tag when they reissued the uniform/pants. Hope that made sense.

I'm 5'8 and I would wear a 28 " seem so did my ex and he was about 5'9 so the guy was average 5'7-5'9 I would believe.

Just received a reply back from National Uniform Services. It is not their product, it is from a company called National Linen and Uniform Services located at numerous locations in the Southeastern US. Here is a link to their website. Guess I will send an email to them and ask them what the "Randy" means in the label. <modsnip: broken link>

This might be a great lead Reannan! I just looked at the website and looks like they have a laundry service with their uniforms, so hopefully they can look up the tracking numbers on the label and give us more info (like who was issued to, etc). Nice work!

So far, two of the email addresses for National Linen have failed. I will find one that works.
