On a potential stinky note: #SarahBoone's attorney tells the judge she starts her day around 2am to be transported to court. She won't get back from court each night until potentially 9pm. She's worried she won't have any opportunities to shower. They are going to see how it goes tonight/tomorrow morning

JURY SELECTION: 23 total today (out of 100) qualified to move on. A new panel of 50 will be brought in tomorrow morning. Judge Kraynick is looking for 50 qualified jurors before the final chosen panel. He's shooting high for 8 alternates for a total of 14 jurors. He might settle for less than that. Opening statements won't happen before Wednesday. Sarah was very animated with her attorneys before she was escorted out.

Usually they have holding cells in the courthouse that can be used for prisoners in current trials. I wonder why she is being transported to and from the main jail? 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. is 5 hours and would cause her sleep deprivation. Also, they need to allow her to shower and groom herself in order to appear presentable to the jury. Basic fairness and human rights. JMO

If SB was not being given sufficient time to sleep in between each daily court hearing, that would be a human rights issue. Sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Nothing to do with whether she can shower or not.

Why is she having to be up at 2am in order to be transported and then not returned until 9pm? Is there proof of this allegation or is it more of Owens being ridiculous on behalf of SB?

I've learned with SB, there's usually another part to the story. If there's an unreasonable delay to achieving a task which requires being up early, you can bet that SB's a significant factor of the delay. I noticed right up to the trial that the Judge granted requests by SB which were vetoed by the jail and Judge deferred to the jail, and didn't ask any questions. Let's not forget SB is on her 9th Attorney --all for a reason. MOO

New filing in the Orange County court records website late last night: the state is moving to exclude some of Jorge's medical records as irrelevant.

First, the state does not seem happy with the late timing of when the defense gave these to the state: "Tonight the State received 550 pages of medical records regarding medical treatment the decedent received in 2017 and 2018. The Defendant acquired these records in January 2022."

A few other snippets:

"The Defendant, even in her most recent iteration of what happened on February 23, 2020, has not set forth the legal grounds to claim self-defense. Assuming that she does so at trial with a different version of events, then prior incidents of violence committed by the decedent that she was aware of would be admissible to show the reasonableness of her fear of imminent great bodily harm or death."

"487 pages regard an incident on December 24, 2017 where the decedent was beaten so badly he needed facial reconstruction surgery. This is not relevant to whether the decedent committed a prior act of violence that the Defendant was aware of occurring."

"The 2018 incident is also not relevant. The history provided by the decedent was that he put his hand through a glass window the day before..."

"Burying the jury with 550 pages of records, when nearly all of them are irrelevant when giving the Defendant every benefit of the doubt on relevancy is unnecessary, and the probative value is substantially outweighed by the danger of unfair prejudice, confusion of issues, misleading the jury, or needless presentation of cumulative evidence."

So it sounds to me, a non-lawyer, that the defense is trying to enter Jorge's medical records to show Sarah hurt him previously and somehow they think this will help bolster her defense of BSS. My assumption is she was the one who beat him in 2017 and somehow caused the glass window incident in 2018? I'm sure there's a legal strategy here I'm oblivious to but to an outsider, it looks like it just further proves that Sarah was a violent person.

they will probably say the victim put his hand through a glass window in 2018 because he was trying to get at SB. and the 2017 incident which required reconstructive surgery will show that he was a horrible person that others wanted to hurt too

Jury selection if the first time I've ever seen her smile in the courtroom. Looking very pleased with herself! Does she believe it's all going well and is she expecting NG verdict and to go home?
I think we will see her smiling a lot during trial until she is convicted. moo ;)

Yesterday, as cuffs/chains were being put on her she was just chatting away. Just another day for SB. moo

May I be repititive please??? She is sooo unlikable. It is difficult to see past her concern only for herself.

I bet she's been told by her attorneys to try to appear like a friendly, kind woman who wouldn't ever murder someone unless she felt her own life was at stake.

I'm looking forward to the motions tomorrow! I think it's where the defense will start to crumble.

Best exchange of the day

Juror- I have an optometrist appointment next week
Judge- does it effect your ability to see today?
Juror- it affects my ability to see every day.
Judge- next time I’ll be more specific with my questioning.

Court adjourned in #SarahBoone: Defense “‘may be filing something tonight” (sounded like another motion)

Judge advises we will start again at 9:30 am for motions.

Defense- Boone is awakened at 2 am to be moved to a holding cell- not arriving back to jail until 930 pm- she’s asking for access to commissary food- including 2 bags of chips, a bag of candy or a pop tart and cookies to keep in court.

Also showers are cut off at 9pm but they allowed her one last night

She was smirking, smiling, and holding back her excitement on the first day Owens represented her in court. I almost thought she was flirting with him, such was her gazing over and grinning at him.
