Ahhh finally.
She got there.
AB is a "victim"

I can't understand why this is court admissible. It's absolute garbage.
SB's words were not just the weapon were they? Baseball bats and suitcases were.

The state best not blow their cross.

I suppose they need to bring in the mental health testimony to get to the BSS but that’s not even the question for me. I think she has PTSD and I believe she has BSS. I suspect the jury does too. None of that is an issue for me. The issue for me is does any of that mean she was acting in self-defense that night when she zipped him in the suitcase and taunted him when he begged her to help when he was struggling to breathe and then hit his hand with a bat and poked his hand back in with the bat to the point that she was comfortable he could not get out and then just left him there to die? I don’t think it does. I’m not sure whether this should be murder or manslaughter but if she hadn’t tried to get away with this by claiming self-defense I really think she would have gotten a manslaughter conviction - perhaps even involuntary manslaughter. Her narcissistic traits have caused her to make poor decisions about her defense and made this even worse for her.

I guess I’ll have to wait for closing arguments for them to get to the issues that I think are key - which is not her psychological issues but whether or not self defense applies when you start the fight or whether leaving someone to suffocate in a suitcase after at least poking them with a bat if not pummeling the with it.

Imagine a diagnosis on JT by her?

I view AB & JT as "like attracts like", so no forensic diagnosis needed.

This trial is stressing me out. It feels like no one is standing up for Jorge here. Sure, he was a violent person with a ton of problems but he's the one who was killed. It's hard to listen to Sarah being described as a damaged person in an unhealthy relationship (all true) but Jorge was, too, and I don't feel like that's been driven home to the jury. I'm trying to trust the process and trust that the prosecution is going to step it up at some point but right now, it's rough.

Completely agree. It's an outrage IMO. I don't see how this is lawful.

If this were to mitigate against the Death Penalty I could understand it but to determine whether SB is guilty of murdering JT, it's frankly bizarre.

All of these battered spouse and trauma symptoms would more likely apply to JT.

There is no specific criteria or statue for BSS. Unique to each relationship. IMO

This woman is a charlatan

The DSM is very specific and only a Psychiatrist is legally qualified to make a diagnosis.

Battered Spouse doesn't even exist and it doesn't sit under PTSD because it's not a recognised syndrome, it has not been scientifically or legally included in the diagnostic manual that is referred to by professionals all over the world.

State is further confusing the jury IMO.

Because it doesn't exist. It's a theory that is not included in current medical practice.

Twice now, the state has asked experts whether holding someone's birth certificate or controlling someone's bike is abusive. But did Jorge do this? Did Sarah do this? The state isn't clear who this is referring to or if it even happened. Is the jury supposed to infer that these hypothetical situations were actually real? Were they real? Why are they making this more confusing than it needs to be?

It's beginning to sound like any traumatized person is excused from violence and murder because of overreaction to a lifetime of hurts.

This testimony explains why she did it, perhaps, but it doesn't negate that she did it.

She's still responsible for the consequences of her actions.

She's still showing depraved indifference IMO.

She is snarky with the prosecution. I don't like her. Seems she diagnosed SB just from what SB told her about herself.

SB's son reported home violence at school, mandated reported, but she never reviewd the DCS records on SB/son.

I keep writing AB instead of SB.
Ashley Benefield is hanging out in my subconscious..lol
