Gotta say, that second article details some pretty disturbing allegations.

Owens dropped a few what I would consider sexist and condescending comments in his closing. Also ill placed and irrelevant.

Just personally, I don't like Owens on a gut level. Not at all. Boundary busting, smarmy and underhand. Though didn't get a similar vibe from Henderson, if there is any truth to those old allegations, that was reprehensible, not to mention illegal conduct against a minor. jmo

Owens used dirty tactics IMO to try and subvert justice and his conduct in this case should be scrutinised if there is such a board that scrutinise particular cases and individuals conduct, this is one to flag up. Maybe it's something a judge does if he feels uncomfortable with aspects of a barristers conduct? Judge Kraynick was amazing.

After 1 hour and 26 minutes, a jury found #SarahBoone GUILTY of killing her boyfriend, #JorgeTorres, by leaving him to die in a suitcase.

Sentencing is set for December 2, 2024.

This is an excellent episode, thank you for sharing, covers a lot of ground and there's so many interesting opinions and thoughts shared. Can't say as I agree with all of them but was great to consider.

Having listened to Owens speaking, it sounds to me that he mis-led his client and badly advised her. Fair enough SB rejected the plea deal he fought for so he was starting from an already losing stance. However, he presented SB with the idea that she was a battered spouse - he gave SB the 'materials' informing her of this (she wasn't, JT was) and he had her firmly believe he thought she was innocent and could go free. He lured her into delusion more so than she already was by herself.

There was never any proof that JT abused SB and in that, Owens dragged the victim's name and reputation through the dirt and continues to do so. Owens persistently refers to the abuse and harm SB suffered from JT. There is no evidence JT stabbed SB. He claims JT didn't let go of the relationship and SB couldn't get out of if. But SB was the clear abuser - holding JT's identity papers and his birth certificate hostage, she was luring him with sex, alcohol, food, shelter, laptop, internet connection, cell phone usage, money, car use, where he had none of those things left after he lost his job. It should be unlawful to publicly call someone an abuser on mainstream media news outlets in these circumstances, where the real abuser and murderer has been convicted.

However, he presented SB with the idea that she was a battered spouse
The idea came from the 1st lawyer and psychologist she had after getting arrested. Owens simple did what SB wanted as he was private, even if it didn't make much sense. Public defendents didn't want anything to do with it and walked away. SB was willing to go pro se with her strategy. Owens just legalized what she wanted as he's getting paid. MOO

BBM
Owens ran with the BSS which was already in the works as a defense since July 2023.

"Frank Bankowitz, appeared virtually and said that he had recently contracted COVID-19.

This time, Boone’s defense has requested the Justice Administrative Commission (JAC) pay for an expert they plan to use for Boone’s “battered spouse defense"

That was quick as others here have noted! Swift. Reflecting on this journey, multiple defendant-driven delays and impediments - prolonged over many months and years. Then even IMO a lengthy defense closing statement.

Fortunately although many of us - me included - questioned at times, the state IMO soundly brought it all together with evidence and surely in the closing statement and their rebuttal closing. The jury was also swift and deliberate. I was amazed as @cujenn81 notes in post # 832 above how one juror, a male I believe, forcefully and rapidly announced ‘yes’ before the poling question could quite be finished.

Glad to all here that helped follow and updates along this unfortunate trial. Concluding finally with some justice for JT, his family, and friends. At long last.

The irony is not lost either IMO. For all of the defendants attempts to delay and avoid, it comes down to six days of court, 3 hours of closing, ~1-1/2 hours of 6 FL jurors viewing the evidence, 10 minutes to announce the verdict, and ~1 additional hour for sentencing on December 2. :( MOO
I was wondering how many men on the jury were going to be super offended by SB’s claims of DV. Aware men (and women) know that men can be abused and not rarely. So glad Jorge finally found his voice.

SB enticed Jorge into her home all those times she called LE. Sadistic. She liked to see him suffer. This wasn’t about a dysfunctional couple IMO. It was about a sadist and a victim.

Idk but for sure she does not seem to have any real empathy for others, may not experience real love towards other people based on the plethora of videos we've seen.

Whatever her issues are and whatever combo of nature nurture formed her, it's not safe for others to be around her either physically or psychologically imo. She's about to start her time for murder and reckless indifference to others' well being (emotional abuse) to the point that physical life is actually at issue, I believe is as dangerous as a more overt uncontrolled physical aggression. Not that she hasn't displayed poor control over her aggressive tendencies to strike out by by any means.jmo

I hope she can be helped whilst in prison but from my limited understanding if she is severely narcissistic to the point of a diagnosable personality disorder there would be limited outlook for the self awareness and insight. All jmo.
She doesn’t think she needs help. IMO in prison, she’ll be sliced and diced on a daily basis. No one is going to put up with this nonsense. The CO’s are going to impose every little bitty bit of control over her, where they might be a bit more relaxed with others. And the other inmates are gonna be constantly getting their digs in.

Eeeek! I’m so late to the GUILTY party but here nonetheless!!! I was out for the evening and just saw that the thread title was still on Verdict Watch so didn’t bother to check till this morning!

Yes yes yes!!! Justice has been served! RIP Jorge.

Not sure if 1 hour 30 minutes is the fastest verdict in Florida, but it’s fast enough for the powerful message and rejection of Sarah’s BSS BS!

You are incorrect. SB was going for “battered spouse” from the get-go. She had it when she represented herself. It was not Owens idea. He presented it for the court, but it was all Sarah.

Maybe not so much. Depends. She's a smart and a good manipulator and so she will probably adjust to the new reality of prison life. She really has no choice. She will learn how not to antagonize the prison guards and and she likely will form some alliances with other prisoners that will make her time easier. I doubt she will try to end her life, but I might be wrong. JMO

It was very telling when Owens said SB 'wanted her day in court'.
There was no plea deal she was going to take, it could have been five years (already served 4.5) and she'd have said no IMO. She was probably already thinking of all the interviews she'd do about being wrongly incarcerated and spending the compensation money.
Last night on Court TV some excellent points were made.

It's the first time in 4.5 yrs that she's returned to jail without the hope of getting to trial, proving her innocence and being freed.
On top of that she's moving to the big house.

I agree with comments above. Narcissistic psychopath, (IMO). What she craved was attention.
In the police videos she seemed so pleased with the attention she was getting from them. Playing a certain role. BUT, so much attention. And probably enjoyed her time in court surrounded by "her" team of lawyers....so many inappropriate smiles.

HOPE she gets life. There is no remorse or rehabilitating this one. Will always be dangerous.

Wish we had seen her ex's police interrogation.

IMO:
During the LE interrogation you can see on SB's face as she was blabbering that she thought what she was saying had the detectives believing her.

Somewhere it was mentioned that SB was changing her story according to finding out what LE had on her.

Consider that 1 1/2 hour included dinner, and reading and filling out those complicated forms. I bet they deliberated for all of 5 minutes.

I just became aware that JT worked at the Ace Hardware store for 4 yrs and was said to be a manager.
I did know that one time JT was arrested ACE put up his bail.
He obviously had his life pretty well together before SB came along.
His family seems close so I assume they knew first hand the comparison of how everything starting going to hell when he met her.

The judge will decide sentencing next month for the convicted murderer Sarah Boone.

In my opinion, the judge will give SB life in prison. SB never ever, not once at any time during trial showed any remorse for the crime she committed. She actually tried to justify her actions for her crime through her attorney. She is a danger to society and should never be free to enjoy freedom again.
She did not allow Jorge Torres any freedom.
