GUILTY FL - Savannah Gold, 21, Jacksonville, 2 Aug 2017

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Family and neighbors who live on the street where police found Savannah Gold’s body woke up Sunday shocked to hear what happened.

A homicide detective, assisted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office dive team, found the body believed to be that of Gold on Saturday night in a lake at the end of Club Duclay Drive, off Blanding Boulevard near Collins Road.
News4Jax spoke with Gold's parents, who said they were especially shocked to find out that Rodarte allegedly confessed to killing their daughter. They said Gold had a warm personality and was full of life. They said they're choosing to celebrate her life

"She's a great girl and we are going to miss her but we are celebrating her life," Gold's mother said. "He (Rodarte) has extinguished a bright light and now because of it, I will never hold her babies. I will never let this go and he will never see the last of me. I will fight to the day I die to make sure he stays in there (jail)."
Gold's father had a message for his daughters accused killer:

"You're not going to hide. We've got you. These people have you. They are not going to let you hide. We're not going to hide. We are going to be here representing our daughter every step of the way and we are not going to hide from this. We are going to celebrate her life and we are not going to hide from the tragedy this is for sure and we want him to know that you were not going to intimidate us. You were not going to scare us there is no chance. We are going to be here."

Gold's father said Rodarte looked him straight in his eyes and offered well-wishes in finding his daughter alive.

"I ran into him when I was at Bonefish and he looked me right in the face and he definitely did not give me any impression, or a hope, that my daughter would be safe," Gold's father said. "He did not give me the impression -- when I walked away from him, I was like, 'That guy doesn't have anything to do with this.'"
Gold's father said he was sure Rodarte had nothing to do with her death.
"Just because he was so -- (he was) looking at me and smiling. Now that I know who it is... My soul would never allow me to do that. My conscience would never allow that."

Savannah had told her about the man who is now charged with her murder.
"She actually had a crush on him for a long time, and he never paid attention to her, then out of the blue he did, so she was flattered," Sherri said.
But, according to her mother, Savannah had a penchant for attracting broken souls; people who need "fixing." Sherri's motherly intuition told her that this man was no good.
"I don’t think he was one of the ones she wanted to save. He was just somebody she liked, she saw every day when she worked. We never got to meet him. He was supposed to come over for dinner one time and he bailed. And ultimately he just ended up lying to her all the time, he was just not a good person," Sherri said.
Savannah and her coworker weren't seeing one another at the time, but they had become friends again.
"I told her I thought it was a mistake for her to talk to him and I asked her to stay away from him. She said, 'It’s okay mom, It’s okay.' Because she’s always so forgiving, she’s like 'We’re only friends, nothing else is going to happen, believe me.'"

according to JSO last night / this morning, the video shows Lee leaving his car to retrieve something from Savannah's car (cell phone?) and then (apparently) puncturing her tire - he had been waiting in the parking lot in his car 30mins prior to her arrival and after she parked, she got out of her car and over to his - initially talking with him from outside his car through the drivers window and then entering Lee's car through the passenger door.

The camera shows a scuffle inside the car, the passenger door opening and closing several time, the car rocking and then calm. A few minutes after the commotion ends is when Lee exits his car and goes over to Savannah's car.

This is all public record and I believe the surveillance video has been released just now

So it sounds like he somehow convinced her to meet up and talk before her shift started? And maybe his? Was he supposed to work that night? Did he call out sick?

"Gallaher said Rodarte initially denied seeing or being with Gold, or even being at the shopping center Wednesday night. However, the video shows Rodarte was there, he said.

On Saturday, police initially took Rodarte into custody on a warrant for driving with a suspended driver’s license. When detectives again interviewed him about Gold’s disappearance, Rodarte incriminated himself in her death and disposal of her body, Gallaher said."

So I'll bet LE confronted him with the video surveillance footage. Initially, before I knew it had been captured on camera, I was thinking that he turned himself in and admitted his crime. Like most socio/psychopaths, he probably thought he'd get away with it. With video cameras everywhere now, that happens less often (Thank God!). (Just speculating here)

Thank heaven for cameras that were working!

I am beginning to think we all are eventually going to need to install cameras at our homes. One reason for our protection that we were home or not at home if accused of anything. Secondly, to tape anyone that is around our property. Criminals know the rules much better than we do, so we need proof of what was happening outside our house or even at our neighbor's home.

This will not turn out well. She never made it into the restaurant. This will be an "admirer", probably from the restaurant. I believe she was kidnapped.

I hate that I was correct.

Going forward..... My heart hurts for her family and loved ones. I pray for their healing.

Agree, and I still cannot wrap my head around it. Done in broad daylight!

I also cannot fathom the shock and grief of those young folks who worked at the same restaurant with both of them (assuming "young", as that is the demographic of the restaurant business). My heart goes out to their coworkers as all of this... it's part of their "family" - and her brother working there as well ...and it appears that he worked that night and was the one to find her car after he got off work ( from MSM report showing the missing persons report on the video.)

A few cases back, there was something on social media we couldn't talk about here at WS. I called reporter on case, and voila, on the news so we could..

Due to recent postings, I called two of the reporters earlier today, to investigate what I had seen as rumor. They said they would look into. Boy, they are quick. It has been confirmed by MSM, so we now can talk about it.
