No words. I think if I owned a Bible I'd get rid of it.
If I may, it is not the Bible that is the problem. It is the evil humans who interpret it for their own purposes. They think they they do God’s work. They do not. IMO

(The above is not in the Bible, btw)

Each “brand” or sect or offshoot interprets it to mean something different

Their version of the "Cherry Pick" bible.

I mean, sure, I guess they can. But the offshoots don’t generally say that molesting children is OK. I think it doesn’t take much from a functioning adult to say this isn’t the prime preaching of any actual positive religion. It’s called saying they are something purely so that they get an opportunity to abuse. Call Stu this with many topics not just Christianity. They use them as a way to control people and create generational abuse and problems that people continue to control. You don’t have to believe in Christianity to say the situation isn’t about the topic they’ve centered on. It’s about abuse and control and being a cult
Every religion seems to have an aspect of control
Women or children or both
I hear the word preacher, priest, bishop, youth leader, youth pastor, mormon bishop and minister mention daily in crimes against both, especially children
A way to hide and have access while virtue signaling

I disagree, but I edited my post because this conversation doesn’t belong here. This is about the crime that occurred. I’m choosing to not engage here, I would elsewhere, I apologize for initiating.

Many of us can follow the crimes religion has a huge part in without taking it personally or shying away from facts

I respectfully disagree. It's good information for people who may not know much about Christianity or the different sects, denominations, etc.

These people should be designated as a danger to young children.

On the topic of religion I will say only this: religion didn't abuse children. Evil men using religion to excuse their own actions and intimidate victims did.

I do believe the household the Duggar children were raised in played a direct role in both Josh and Joe becoming child sexual abusers. And like it or not, much of how those 19 children were raised is/was rooted in a very narrow patriarchal religious viewpoint. That doesn't mean all religion is bad or the bible is bad. It just means bad men did bad things. MOO

they’re babies! Can you imagine the terror they must’ve felt to wake up at night locked in their rooms?

On FB there is a group of "Duggar" apologists. They seemingly justify almost everything in this family. Many talked about this as a method of keeping kids in their rooms. As a "safety" issue.

Like, that is normal? I looked at some websites for information on this, I would post it, but it may be OT, but it is significant in terms of creating an attachment disorder in toddlers and children.

MOO as a paralegal - this is a tough question to answer. For example I know a lot of parents of autistic kids who will elope regularly and sometimes parents do decide to utilize a lock on doors.

Different States likely have different rules/statutes about this, for sure. And it could also matter (for example) how young is the kid? Can they escape in an emergency, like a fire? How long were they confined? Was it overnight confinement versus a brief timeout? What is the broader context of why it was happening? Etc.

Well, Michelle and Jim Bob considered putting locks outside of their childrens' bedrooms to be an approppriate measure in response to their son's Josh s*xual abuse of his own sisters.
I didn't follow their "show" back in the day and I don't really keep up with the Duggars nowadays either, but I think it has been made very clear that this family has a really misguided relationship with s*xuality and intimacy. Being "modest" and "pure" is the upmost priority for them; they need to make sure their children are the best options for "courting" in their town and community. And there are several other families that live like this, so it doesn't really surprise me that people are "defending" them on-line and making up scenarios where putting locks outside of childrens' bedrooms is "normal". It isn't normal.

Agree, not normal.

It's all modesty and purity til a houseful of children die because they were locked in their bedrooms when a fire broke out.

Exactly. And the kids are not prisoners, they shouldn't be treated that way anyways. And in this particular case, their kids are not even close to teenagers, makes zero sense so it's not about keeping them "separated".

It would be difficult for a person witnessing abuse and profiting from promoting a cult for years, and doing nothing about it, to write a book, and for the book to come off as helpful rather than a cash grab.

MOO
Very fair point
