NORTH FLORIDA GIRL MISSING

7-year-old Florida girl missing - Somer Renee Thompson

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing 7-year-old North Florida girl who vanished after school.

More than 100 Clay County deputies and law enforcement personnel from neighboring counties were searching Monday and Tuesday in Orange Park for Somer Renee Thompson.

The second-grader is white, 3-foot-5 and 65 pounds. She had brown hair tied in a pony tail with a red bow and was carrying a purple Hannah Montana backpack and lunch box.

Somer was last seen about 2:45 p.m. Monday heading home from Grove Park Elementary School. She was walking with her sister and some friends, but ran ahead of them.

I just got this alert on my phone and it happened yesterday?

<going to call cell provider>

There's not a whole lot of info yet is there?

Mom's friend at home name Sean, Shawn? Spelling? Told siblings to search for Somer at 3:05... they looked for 1 hour.

Mom called home at 4 to see if kids made it home -- found out Somer had not and left work. Stopped deputy on the way home.

Thanks so much for this advice Kimster - judging mom and all those who love this beautiful child is counterproductive to bringing her back. The fact that mom searched for daughter for over 2 hours before telling the police shows me how frantic she must have been...seems mom never thought of an abduction. Only in ones worst nightmare can a child be taken by a stranger. mho

I agree. I can't even imagine what the mom went through and I'll bet those 2 hours flew by as she franticallly searched for her child.

Calling 911 would mean, yes, my child is really, really missing.

Tuning into the presser now..has it started?

Presser says they've been searching since 4 pm yesterday. (new time!)... contacted 57 SOs...

after she separated from siblings she made contact again with them... they made it home, she did not. I dont understand.

Thanks for the updates, LL!

So there was a friend at home to greet them and she is the one who looked for an hour? She never called Somer's mom to let her know??? This seems weird. Not placing blame, just thinking how odd it is.

forgive me if this has been said.....but why arent the po po sending a bolo and description of the car out there? Shouldnt that be done before that car is gone and the people are across the border, just to be safe and rule them out??? jmo

Endangered missing child due to her age and the elements.
LE does suspect foul play. There is no direct evidence of it except for the fact that she is still not home.

They will be talking to the media tomorrow about organized civilian searches....

How far from home was it where they saw her for the last time?

BBM.

Okay, that's new info.

I'd like to know:

1) where did she initially separate from them?
2) where did she make contact again?
3) where did they lose her yet again?

I didn't hear the answer to that question. I don't think they said it, but I was trying to type at the same time so I might have missed it.

"Mr Patton" lives in the home and is being described as a "family friend" and was at home with kids while their mother was at work. Per presser

The friend was a he.

Okay, so mom wasn't home, a friend of mom's was there to greet the kids?

Maybe the friend didn't realize Somer was missing for a little while.
