Judge Denies Bond In Child Enticement Case

ALBANY, Ga. -- A judge denied bond for a 36-year-old man after he was accused of trying to entice elementary school children into his van as they were walking home.

Kenneth Kellam was charged with two counts each of attempting to entice a child for indecent purposes, attempted child molestation, attempted false imprisonment, and attempted aggravated sodomy. He will likely also face charges for failure to register as a sex offender.

Police said Kellam he tried to get 9 and 10-year old brothers to get into his van as they walked home from Northside Elementary School last week. He was arrested on Monday when he approached them again.

Kellam was led into court in handcuffs and shackles for his first appearance Thursday morning. He was ordered held without bond.

A convicted sex offender in Hillsborough, Fla., Kellam faces additional charges of criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy and false imprisonment after police found suspicious items when they searched his van.

It would be a mega SWITCH for him to go from molesting boys to girls. But...it could happen. After spending so much time reading, looking, thinking....I think I know less that when this forum started.:waitasec:

Investigators of Florida girl's death alerted about Albany arrest

The Dougherty district attorney confirmed today that Clay County, Fla., sheriff's investigators and the FBI have been made aware of the arrest of a man here who Edwards thinks could be linked to the death of a Florida girl, though the prosecutor says there is no evidence directly linking him to the girl.

Dougherty District Attorney Greg Edwards said that his office has forwarded the information to the authorities in Florida on Kenneth Kellam, who was arrested here Tuesday after following two elementary school boys home. Edwards says it's "geographically feasible" that Kellam could have a connection to the death of Somer Thompson in Florida.

"It's geographically feasible that he could have a connection to that case, and his M.O. is similar," Edwards said. "So we have passed the information along to the proper authorities in Florida and the FBI has taken an interest."

Edwards was quick to say there is no direct link between Kellam and the Florida slaying, adding that local authorities have acted out of due diligence to notify authorities in Florida.

"We've been told they've received more than 1,500 tips in that case and this may just be another one, but we have the obligation to report it," Edwards said.

FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett refused today to comment on what he said were the "day-to-day" operations of investigators and would not confirm whether the FBI had interviewed Kellam at the Dougherty County Jail.

This morning, Kellam was denied bond by Magistrate Victoria Darrisaw and was remanded to the custody of the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities in Charlton County in Southeast Georgia confirmed last week that the remains of a young girl discovered in a landfill there were those of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who police believe was abducted Oct. 19 while walking home from school.

Kellam was released from the Florida prison system in 2008 and was required to register as a sex offender.

It could be possible I guess.But Kellam really did go after little boys.I really don't see him as the one who killed Somer.

Do sexual predators stay with one age group? I don't know exactly how to word this so here goes-- like age groups so to speak. Little girls, and then teen girls? Child verses young teens ..?

from experience....no.....imo.....they will vary as well as be capable of other types of crimes....jmo

I never saw where it was reported that he did not but was told it was in the beginning and maybe on video. I've yet to see anyone post anything along those lines when the discussion comes up on whether AC (not AT as listed in police report; going off obit) lived with Somer, Diena, AT and ST.

Incarcerated in some type of correctional facility. I think the Duval Cty Jail, but I'm not sure on that part.

You know what, I have to say something that's been bothering me for quite a few days...this stuff of not feeling comfortable putting names on the board. IMO, when you put yourself in the news to be interviewed, when you are pulled over for a traffic violation, when you are charged with a crime, you become public information. IMO, EVERYONE is considered a suspect - I find myself looking at the people I work with, in my neighborhood, at a traffic light, etc. Facebook pages, Myspace pages, they are all out there for public consumption. If you don't want it out there don't do anything wrong, abide by the law and don't put your name in cyberspace! So I really don't see why a small minority of ppl on this board have a problem with those who are already in the public records for whatever reason.

He was just arrested in the past few days...meaning he could have been involved. IMO I don't think he was, but he could have been.

It's never been clear that there was or wasn't someone else working at the house, or delivering materials besides the owner and Kyle. I've been asking this question since we found out about the house:

If there was another worker, then why would the owner be covering up the identity of that person?

Then I suggested that the person could be an illegal or undocumented worker. I don't think the owner would want to reveal that to the Feds because from what I understand there is a rather hefty fine on businesses if the Feds find out. And what if that undocumented worker is also a child sex predator?

Just my thoughts from the get go.

FYI: I just got home from spending a few hours driving Gano St. & surrounding areas. There was a white van & two men in the white suits in front of the burned house on Gano Street...they were parked on the side of the house opposite the dumpster. There was a police car in front of Somer's home with a policeman standing outside talking with a woman. As I drove down Blanding Blvd. I noticed the channel 4 and firstcoast news van at the Clay County Police sub station. Maybe something is going to break today! I didn't see the big satellite dishes up on the vans, so...
I have to go find my cable to load the pictures I took...

Do we know when 1080 Gano was 1st searched? We were going with one scenario (of many) that the perp may have taken Somer there and left evidence in the house. Do we know if the workers were back in the house the next day...Tuesday? If the workers were in the house on Tuesday...would they have found evidence, if any? And weren't searchers out all night long after Somer's disappearance? Seems hard to fathom that someone would be putting body in the dumpster/trash cans while people are out searching all nite. A car seems more and more probable to me.
