I think this was a crime of oppurtunity because nobody had any idea Somer would take off from her siblings and run ahead. I also belive the burned out house was the crime sceene because the police and FBI spent thousands of dollars in there and several days processing it. I can not see any of DT's friends from myspace or her personal life having to sit there in a car or something daily waiting for that time Somer comes walking by alone after school so they could grab her and kill her in that house.

Hi Doc. My thinking is similar to yours. I think this person planned to commit this crime, but just didn't plan which child. I think he had no previous thought of Somer, it's just that she is the one that ran ahead, so she was the one he took. moo:waitasec:

The things you stated that I bolded made me think of something I have observed that hasn't been brought up yet.
Concerning the 24 hr. police car posted in front of Diena's house-is this a common procedure in an abducted/murdered child case? What makes it stand out in my mind even more is the fact that Somer was not abducted from the home. Anybody recall any other cases where this has occured? The pics from locals posted late this week showed the le car still there so it makes me wonder who and what are they protecting? The guilty party certainly wouldn't be stupid enough to go to the home would they? (rhetorcial question there, I know some criminals are stupid) I can see the le car being there in the beginning because of increased traffic because of the memorial but still there after the funeral? And as beefy as DT's bf is I don't think she would have any worries about anyone harming her. Maybe le did tell her to say the things she did on tv to the perp to try and make him mad and show his face.

My thoughts and opinions only.

I can think of only 2 reasons to be there still. To protect someone in that house or to keep an eye on someone in that house.

I don't know enough about other cases to know if this is out of the ordinary.

Possibility...but if that were the case I would think LE would be more apt to keep the house under surveillance and use undercover vehicles...jmo

Here's what I found out about this sex offender, Maroun Ata...birth date: 3/2/50 or 3/20/50.

1. He has no previous criminal record that I can find
2. He lives at ****Ortega Bluff Lane, Jacksonville
3. He rents from a neighbor
4. Has a son or daughter 26 yo
5. He is Arabian
6. He lists his profession as...cosmetologist - barber - nails! Now may be this is a 'she'. Lists education as 'some college'. that's it for now.

Thanks very much.... he looks weird . scary... his eyes.. cold empty..

You could be on to something. However, I am more inclined to think the LE is posted there to be a first level of security for the family in general. With this being a nationally noted case... think of all the people that would be literally knocking on the front door.... with out a LE to serve as a mini barrier.

Nonni ~
I tried to find the video you asked about, but I'm not sure which one it is (I've watched so many, I can't keep track of the names and dates of all of them). There was a lot of discussion about it here a few days ago. Maybe someone else knows which one?

Here is 10/19 video with Sheriff.....

7-Year-Old Orange Park Girl Missing (around 3:40 mark)

and

Grandmother Devastated by Somer's Disappearance
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/s...6947&catid=338

After reading the baby sitters comments last week I backtracked as it didn't make sense.......as this video clearly establishes, the Sheriff knew of Somer's tendency to wander right off (baby sitter's comments came a day or so later and while he doesn't specifically say DT told him...it is far more likely the info came from family rather then a teen baby sitter from months ago)....it seems he also believed it was out of the norm for her to wander past a certain time.

OT Do love this Sheriff.....

Am bumping this up as it appears that when/how LE was told of Somer being a bit of a wanderer is still in question.

Do believe it is clear he knew the evening of the 19th......

I looked for it too. It's the one with Diena speaking from inside her home wearing her hair down....that's all I remember :(

Dr. Fessel ... I was just thinking about subconractors!

My sister is having her kitchen redone and there is a guy for the painting, a guy who took down the cabinets (he wanted them) and a guy who will be doing the flooring.

That's in addition to the contractors she hired.

I had asked long ago exactly what kind of renovations were being done right now. Because in news report, it said the house was down to the 2x4s ... and I asked what kind of workers you'd need at this point ... can you or anyone give me a list of possibles?

Seems like it was one of the morning shows.

Electrician, Drywaller, Painter, Cabinet people, Floor people, Siders, Roofers. I do not know how much of this work the guy would do himself, but with any of those people you might also have them just coming by and doing measurements and stuff or picking up or leaving tools or materials and not really doing any work and if the general contractor is not there he would not have any idea they had been there.

She was also known to take off and not get right home, maybe perp knew this?:waitasec:

I remember reading a comment from one of the neighbors in response to an article about Somer rarely out by herself, "..I seen that little girl walking around by herself all the time." Sounds like more than one person noticed Somer alone.

I can take a stab at it...my husband has his own home improvement company. If the walls were down to the studs, it could include the following:

electrical
plumbing
HVAC
drywall
flooring/tilers/etc

later would come
painters
cabinet carpentry
appliance delivery men
landscaping

please add to anything I forgot...think the roof and windows were done weren't they?

Guess it's not a she - didn't see a pic. Not registered as a sex offender. Just tells us how many are out there yet to be discovered.

He claims to be a cosmotolegist and I can't find where he works. jmo

I wonder if Diena's reason for contacting LE so quickly was that she thought Samuel had taken Somer.

That thought just popped into my head ...

ETA: And maybe not him personally since he is recovering from surgery and she may have known that or not, don't know -- but someone FOR him.

Good discussion going.... I've reached the point of sinking eyelids. Nite all - sleep well. Let's all hope for more answers tomorrow.

Here aremy questions on the garbage.
1. There is no way that anyone could get a body into the garbage dump area, I don't think, especially to end up in Somer's neighborhood spot. I don't think that anyone can have access to a dump and not only that, how would they traverse a mound of garbage and coincidentally end up in Somer's neighborhood garbage dump area? I think that is totally out of the picture.

2. I posted before that hubby was at a motel when a garbage truck came and took the garbage out of the dumpster. That is with a mechanical arm. They shake it out and then compact it in the truck, mechanically. Don't think that would work to be able to see legs at the dump. JMO and not meditating on that thought. Plus, aren't dumpsters in commercial places such as stores, etc locked? Does anyone know? That would make a difference.

3. That leaves residential. If the garbage was to be picked up in the AM, no one could stash anything into my garbage can except maybe a piece of paper. I don't think the perp would be looking around for empty garbage cans hoping to find one.

4. I can't see my garbage guys ever letting the homeowner empty the stuff from the can into their trucks. Does that happen anywhere?

5. I can't see it being the park as there were just too many people around and it would be way too much of a risk.

6. People were looking pretty quickly for Somer. So how could anyone have time to ditch her unless they did put her into a car in a garage or shed and then dump her later. But strange that the garbage is from her neighborhood. To me that indicates that it is somebody from the neighborhood who knows the perfect place to put her into the garbage (I hate typing that!) Otherwise, they would be long gone. Why stick around? And stick around where?

7. The RSO on the police report. Continue to say, "Way too weird?" They just happened to put the correct name and address on the report of an RSO? If indeed iit wasn't the RSO, who was it because it certainly was somebody!

So what garbage can, dumpster? could be used? I think it's totally determined that it can't be a construction dumpster. Any ideas on it?

Really should remember that this house had fire so probably contractors trying to save what they can.. to save on expenses.. jmo so would have to be sealed from soot, smell etcc.. I have thought this from day one of the house talked about..
