I don't think it is about blame at all... it is what we learn over time that can help us better keep our children safe.. I read a few days ago, forget which thread now, that Somer's school is starting a parent volunteer program to have adults volunteer to be at drop off and pick up points for walkers... and walk with them to the school. The parents who volunteer will have to have background checks done. It sounds like a wonderful idea.

Over and over we hear the echos from parents who have learned the same lesson the same hard way... that our kids should never be alone. Perhaps Somer's case can really make a difference...

Again, I don't think it is about blame at all... but how many times does it have to happen... that a child is alone and something bad happens to them before something really changes to ensure that our children are not alone... I think this walking program they have started is a step in the right direction.... imhoo of course

Nurse.....you are very diplomatic and I appreciate your posts.

Hindsight is 20/20 for sure, and is an impetus for action.

Hello Human, nanu nanu

Regarding trash carts, I've seen this type used in three cities. I also worked as a videographer with WTOC news in Savannah, Ga and was assigned to a found body call to determine if it was homicide or suicide. When I arrived the scene was taped off for two blocks and LE led us to believe it was a suicide in a car down an alley. Officers were all over keeping people and news crews away. I finally got permission from a home owner to go in their back yard and took pics of the legs of a body in the back of a trash compactor truck.

Eventually it was learned the truck drove down the alley on trash day and two guys walking behind the truck emptied home owner trash carts into the back of the truck when the cart was emptied the body went into the rear compactor of the truck but it was spotted and not compacted, LE was called to the scene, we knew then we had a homicide.

These type carts can now be emptied automatically with only one person driving the truck.

I only tell you this story because I know the details first hand and in no way implies this was how she got to the dump area but that it could happen. Here's a picture of the dump carts cities are using now and I don't know if they are used in the area this girl went missing.

What I meant was that some posters had earlier said that she might have been brought to the landfill rather than being put into a can or dumpster. I was just stating that there is no way that I thought that the perp could have brought her to the landfill himself, not put her into a can somewhere. Ugh, how I hate to type that.

I have asked myself that same question - was SP calling the list of friends? It has never been mentioned by anyone in any interviews.

Not clear about him calling the friends but I am pretty sure he was instructed to do some flushing of any drugs, and paranaphella around the house, which is why he told the children to go look for Somer, and then go look again real hard. His line of work per his website is working with children-- guess he doesn't have any common sense about a child missing and not coming home, and that was his job since DT trusted him to care for her children after school. They were on his watch.

Also explains the reason NO ONE called 911. I would go with a lot of cell phone calls, and text messages between DT and SP along with DT making calls to Somer's friends.

Nite all. Good luck with your sleuthing :)

Would subcontractors have access to the landfill without their trash being checked or would that not be a given?

I wanted to add that when your are sleuthing RSO's, don't forget to include the ones from Middleburg and Green Cove. They are NOT that far away. When I lived in Middleburg 10 years ago, we ran to Orange Park almost every day. It is a 20-30 minute drive, depending on where in Middleburg you live. Green Cove is about 20-25 minutes on the back highway. It would be easy for an offender from those areas to drive up, do what he wants to do, and hurry back .

If he did not leave the house then she would have had to been in his trunk when the police got there. By the time all the statements were made I am sure the police would have looked through his car.
Dr, I have to disagree with you here. So many times, too many times, LE misses what's right under their noses. Remember Ana Le? And the cleaning lady (God, I'm sorry, ma'am, I've forgotten your name) who was found in the little closet no one remembered was there? They searched for days!
And even the kids they found in the trunk of the parent's car that was sitting on the driveway?
And LE, I know you could have a list of these, and it would always be something else.
So what I'm saying is, that the kids said she ran off, I honestly believe the focus would have been on that point, not the house where everyone said she never reached.

Ok human, that being so then LE should be questioning the trash haulers. I'm just reading on occasion here.

I am sorry for the question I am about to ask.

I thought that rigor mortis was caused by the breakdowns of certain acids in the blood affecting the muscles.
If the body were to be dismembered, and therefore mostly devoid of blood, would rigor still set in? How long would it last?
Sorry and TIA.

Forgot to add at the dumps I have gone to all they do is either way or look at how much you have.

Good question. Let me check.

One of the things about this case that nags at me harder than almost any of the other nagging things: if Somer had been known to wander off/not come home right after school, etc., why was everyone in such a panic when she wandered off on that particular day? I mean - everyone went into emergency mode immediately! Diena took off work early. Her BF took off work early! And she had only been missing about an hour, which was not uncommon, according to the teen babysitter.
Here is a little girl who was known to come home upon occasion an hour or so late. But suddenly on this particular day, barely an hour had elapsed and the mother went into panic mode. It doesn't make sense. I know Diena said that she felt something wasn't right. Moms have gut instincts. I know I do, and I always listen to it. What happened on this particular day that no one is talking about that sent everyone into panic mode?

I agree doggies. Even in the Anthony investigation, LE missed some thing initially because they were looking for a missing child and did not immediately suspect that Caylee had come to harm.

Have we heard any more about K.Ketcham? He is the RSO that was recently arrested in Dubury. LE as looking at him because he was "geographically feasible." I'm just wondering if LE has cleared him yet?

They do here-but again, as I posted the other day, here you still have to prove that you are eligible to dump at that site. Proof of residency is required. Contractors here still have to prove that they are who they say they are, and there's a record of it. BUT-I read the terms and conditions for dumping on the website for Orange Park, and it did not mention this. Maybe it was listed somewhere else, but I don't think you can just go anywhere and fill their dump if you don't have residency status.

Rigor Mortis has to do with the cellular level in the muscles so it would not have anything to do with the blood other then it is not circulating.

More specifically, what happens is that the membranes of muscle cells become more permeable to calcium ions. Living muscle cells expend energy to transport calcium ions to the outside of the cells. The calcium ions that flow into the muscle cells promote the cross-bridge attachment between actin and myosin, two types of fibers that work together in muscle contraction. The muscle fibers ratchet shorter and shorter until they are fully contracted or as long as the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and the energy molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP) are present. However, muscles need ATP in order to release from a contracted state (it is used to pump the calcium out of the cells so the fibers can unlatch from each other). ATP reserves are quickly exhausted from the muscle contraction and other cellular processes. This means that the actin and myosin fibers will remain linked until the muscles themselves start to decompose.

Shutterfly put together some great pictures along with a theory that was written out in the eyes of a child.

Momtective put together a time-line of the events that afternoon.

Sure wish we had those pics and time-line to reference right now.

According to the time-line there was, at the most, a couple minutes for the perp to grab and hide little Somer. The other kids and her siblings were right behind somer and walking toward her. The walk was straight and narrow - nothing blocking the view.

something happened in a very short time frame and it was right in front of the children she was walking with and others who were walking home. To NOT be noticed by anyone, this person must have looked as if he belonged there.

In the police report, only AT (10 yo sister) went looking for Somer. She returned 15 minutes later (Based on 3:10 arrival time home (also in police report), that makes 3:25 p.m., and then told her to go look real hard before he called her mom. I don't know if AT was home when the texts between Sean and Diena were sent.)

AFAIK, the twin brother was home with Sean. But as I mentioned, I don't know what he did during this time.

And as far as the number of text messages or calls between Diena and Sean ... I'm sure LE has requested (and received) cell phone records.

Unrelated to that ... RSOs

The list I started is RSOs within 5 mile radius ... specifically predators, but have added some from Jacksonville. Tried to indicate where those ones are from and am going to have to wait until tomorrow to add.

It's almost worthless to do this ... but people were getting confused about the various RSOs and what their crimes were so I started the list. It's never-ending. And IIRC, an expert said it was typical of urban areas.
