Well, I sure have...but I've had several theories. The cop though...was my very first theory. I even tracked down his name to make sure he wasn't the same cop that followed the trash trucks...lol...nope, not the same guy.

Seems there was a lot of interest in searching the garbage very early on but no interest in making a connection to an earlier attempted abduction. :banghead:

Somer has a 13yo brother, where I come from 13yo's babysit. I'm sorry, but I fail to see why the inability to afford a babysitter would translate to a 7yo being murdered and thrown in the trash.

Single moms everywhere are vulnerable as a target for all kinds of crimes. So far there has been NO evidence that mom D was negligent in caring for her children...and to insinuate there was NObody to help care for a sick child is ludicrous. And to insinuate mom D. sent a sick child to school to avoid DFS is even more ridiculous speculation. What's your need to trash mom? How about accusing with facts????????

I did not see it as trashing the Mom at all. What I see is a horrible situation that many people are in-no money for adequate daycare.

We don't know who the normal sitter is. And if DT can't afford a sitter, then she probably does feel guilty about it. Because any parent would know that it's not a good situation. But if you don't have the money, what is one supposed to do?

It would be nice if this society that supposedly loves kids and wants to do the best for them, would actually do it.

All I see is less and less money going to help people.

Everyone is so worried about H1N1. I see that we actually do have an epidemic and it's called SO's. Almost 700,000 RSO's!!!! Are you kidding me!!! We better start taking care of our kids or no one will be safe anywhere at any time! (adults or children!) What I mean is to provide smaller class sizes, schools that aren't filled with mold and falling down, after school programs, parenting classes in high school , medical and dental care, proper nutrition, and probably lots of other things I'm missing. Dollars spent in the beginning save later on. Prison is a lot more expensive.

I have followed this case since the begining but this is first time posting here in this thread. I had a quick look and couldn't see this mentioned anywhere so apologies if this has already been answered. Do we know for sure Somer was put into a dumpster then into the garbage truck or could she have been put straight into the truck. The reason I ask is that a little while ago the truck that empties our garbage accidently dropped the bin in the truck. When the driver got up to see if he could fetch the bin when he got down he was covered in what looked like black soot but it was actually just dirt, mould etc that had built up over time from loads of rubbish. Are the trucks stored somewhere locally over night, could someone easily gain access? Just a thought

Whoa, I don't think Cathdawg is trying to trash mom. I interpreted Cathdawg's post to be asking the question of whether or not they had a regular sitter after school, and if they did, maybe she (the sitter) was sick and that is why DT asked SP to be home for the kids that day.

I think her comment about DFS was a speculation that if the kids didn't have a sitter maybe mom didn't want to disclose that b/c it might violate some code or something. (i have no idea what age you need to be to watch your siblings in FL) Maybe the younger kids came home and were home 1/2 hour or so before their older brother got there. His school day ended later than theirs.

I'm not sure if it's ever been established that the 13 year lives at the same residence. But I think the point that was trying to be made was what the normal daily habit of the family and Somer was. Who normally watched the children, or if no one, then how long were they on their own till Mom came home? What places did Somer hang out on a frequent basis when she didn't come home on time, and how frequently did that happen? Just a more in-depth look at the daily routine so we could glean some info to see if she was an easier target for someone to stalk her or even befriend her...jmo

Your empathy and compassion for those who may not be able to afford a babysitter is quite different from someone speculating Somer was sent to school sick - to avoid DFS. Mom worked for a Dr. and it seems to me if Somer was really sick, mom could have called in and had the day off. If that's not the case, I would prefer to attack the Dr.'s office, not mom D.

That's an interesting scenario - I never thought of that. Wonder if LE have interviewed all the drivers of the trucks. My guess is that the murderer may already be behind bars and LE not have the evidence to link him as the murderer. The murder of Somer has to be proven in court beyond ALL reasonable doubt and sometimes that's hard to do. Yikes!

MissEllen, that's quite a theory. Putting out APB for all sleuthers in the area:Can you see if the trucks are locked up at night? Where are they kept?

My father passed away unexpectantly when I was 5. My mom was in her mid-20's with three young children and a new mortgage. Our neighbor's had a fund raiser for us. The money was used to put food on our table and miscellaneous roof-over-our-heads expenses. I'm pretty sure the mother of this murdered child will need all the financial help she can get to maintain her family and household at this point and very sad troubling time.

I'm going to turn in for a while.

[snipped...] JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This community was shaken just a couple weeks ago in the death of 7-year-old Somer Thompson, who went went missing while walking home from school.

Two days later, her body was found in a Georgia landfill.

Somer's killing brings to the forefront the fact that children are targets in a dangerous world.

It's safe to say parents will do anything to protect their children. Knowing where your children are even when they're not with you is one way.

A company in Utah said it has a product that will give parents peace of mind.

It shipped the device overnight so Channel 4 could see it and test it.

I don't want any school butting into my kids' health care, but I agree they should definitely have after school care for all. We don't know if D. had regular after school babysitting or if the small kids came home to wait for the brother or not, but I'd bet that DFS would frown on 10 year old and 7 years old staying home alone even for a little while each day.

If LE is now admitting to questioning sex offenders, isn't that a pretty good indication that her poor body has evidence of some sort of sexual assualt?!? This is the first acknowledgement of it if I'm not mistaken. Thanks tarabull, for the link.

I'm sorry to say this but perhaps his incarceration is a plot , to keep us somewhat at ease that they are looking at someone of interest. It seems like all the other fugitives can get away with Murder. ie William Davis.

Really, Maybe the employer did not offer these benefits, the luxury of having a day off with a sick child. Do we really know if the 13 yr old was available to be there @ 3:00 pm. DT stated she worked for $14/hr..In a circumstance were your child is apparently not feeling well that am., what the Hell are you going to do? Maybe she was bullied at School and this was a normal occurrence, I do not know, but it is just speculation, that is all it is.

Apparently she works for a Dentist, please correct me if I am wrong.

I have no idea and I might add - what would the difference be? I thought I saw an M.D. on the sign, but it could have been a DDS...the woman driving Somer to school that AM said she was fine - was acting perfectly normal. So I'm not sure about all the speculation that Somer was so sick mom had to send her to school to avoid scrutiny by DFS.

If it turns out that a friend or family member murdered little Somer - I'm not sure how that makes mom D. guilty. Sorry, I'm just not into that kind of speculation. I'm going to leave this thread until we have something of substance to discuss. See everyone later.

Wow, did I say Mom was guilty? You sure live up to your stance.

Only my opinions-and that's all they are. What about the others?
