IIRC the early reports of her when she had gone missing said something about her possibly wearing a white hat and scarf.

A Florida AMBER Alert has been issued for Somer Thompson. She was last seen in the area of West Gano Avenue and Debarry Avenue in Orange Park. She was last seen wearing a black shirt under a cranberry colored sweat suit with pink stripes running down the arms and legs. She possibly has a red bow in her hair and may have been wearing a white hat and a white scarf.

  • #444
Yes it's in the Amber Alert I looked at.

  • #445
I really don't ever remember seeing the hat and scarf info. Well...now I know. Thanks Tainted Angel :)

Tht would be interesting to find out. I don't remember that either, but there is so much info that is so conflicting, I get mixed up on a lot.

I hope someone can do more research on the Saeed person. I don't know how. It might be a common name for all I know.

Just wondered if COD could have been strangulation with her scarf.

Just wondered if COD could have been strangulation with her scarf.

And that's another detail we don't know about...if she did in fact have the hat and scarf on that day and if those items were found.

  • #449
Just wondered if COD could have been strangulation with her scarf.

I suppose anything could be possible at this point since we don't know much.

Until it was brought up again just now, I hadn't thought about her having those items again since I first saw it on the alerts.

And yw alexandra.

Well, if they were found with the body and were part of the COD (suffocation with the hat stuffed in her mouth and/or strangulation with the scarf) then they'd keep quiet that they were with the body.

(I have no idea what kind of hat or whether it could be 'stuffed' in her mouth.)

JUST THEORY

In the media portion of AMW are these statements. Pictures would not copy (for me).

Somer wore her hair in pigtails with pink ribbons the day she disappeared.

Cops say Somer was carrying this pink and black book bag when she disappeared.

The lunchbox Somer carried has a picture of a pig's face on the top.

Somer's pink lunchbox has not been located.

Somer was spotted at a vacant house that was being remodeled along her route home.

Somer wore her hair in pigtails with pink ribbons the day she disappeared.

Somer has a twin brother and 10-year-old sister.

Somer disappeared while walking home from school with her siblings.

Somer's mother said she was creative, full of energy and loved to talk.

Somer was in 2nd grade at Grove Park Elementary School.

That's all that's there.

I have very little faith in any of the reporting of this case. They don't have her grade correct. Somer was in 1st grade. Someone posted that Somer was in their child's class at school--in 1st grade.

I'm still wondering if the 4 attempted abductions from Timicuaun Elementary in Jacksonville in 2008 were related.
Strange how many young girls were abducted this year from busy streets or areas and no one noticed anything unusual. Thank goodness for the video in the Tori Stafford case.

Southern Mom - here are some links I found on attempted abductions when I was working on that other project last night.

2002 - Key Largo, just interesting. a story about a woman, and then later, a 13 yr old walking home from school, both of whom had an attempted abduction by a masked man. I think there's a masked man in one of the abductions in one of these other cities too. http://www.keysso.net/pio/crimereports/year_2002/november2002.htm
2007 - Deltona: http://www.volusia.org/sheriff/press/2007 Press Releases/December/070220.htm
2008 - Lake Helen: http://www.volusia.org/sheriff/press/2008PressReleases/April/080090.htm
2008 - Palm Bay: http://listserv.palmbayflorida.org/cgi-bin/wa.exe?A2=POLICE_DEPARTMENT;51mnRQ;20080520094045-0400
2009 - Gilchrist Elemtary, the white truck link & photos: http://www.tallahassee.com/article/...t-Monday-night-at-Gilchrist-Elementary-School
2009 - Fall River - Atlantas Charter School, att. abduction involving white van: http://www.heraldnews.com/education...abduction-reported-at-Fall-Rivers-Kennedy-Par
2009 - article on additional Tallahassee attempts: http://www.tallahassee.com/article/...children-report-being-approached-by-strangers
2009 - Orlando, FL- sketch released in October incident where man tried to abduct three young girls walking home from school: http://www.wftv.com/news/21166662/detail.html

anyway, I think there are a lot of attempted abductions out there, by more than one person or more than one group of people. Prob a lot of att. abductions that I'm just not able to access media for in a timely fashion.

No mention of backpack or lunch box in this. Possibly, LE wanted to hold back some information? No, I guess it would not be part of her physical description. IDK

Here is a list of 317 missing and exploited children in Florida - years: 1984-2009

http://www.missingkids.com/missingk...act=usMapSearch&missState=FL&searchLang=en_US

thanks. I've been through and through that list already though unfortuntely, about four times - and I've gone to each of the county websites, searched all kinds of media, etc ad nauseum. If you take out the kids who were parental abduction (many or most of who are thought to be overseas) and if you exclude kids over 13, it's really weird, but it goes through a little of the 80's and 90's and then... nothing. Some girls who were 13 and under went missing after that, or were murdered, but the cases were solved (many were two and under and it was someone in the home). Anyway, anyone who came up, like Caylee for instance, they've made an arrest already. So I can't tell if there have been fewer victims or just a higher solve rate on these cases.

Ok, this is creepy. Check this out. There are a series of YouTube videos covering Somer's case posted by the same YouTube user. Check out the name on the YouTube profile. Here is one of the videos.
YouTube- Where Is Somer Amber ? Amber Alert Issued
Now if you google that name from the profile, that person is dead. Was killed in August.

I don't know that this kid would be capable of an abduction/murder. He has obvious developmental issues. I think he's just upset/excited about the case.

I finally took the leap, and instead of just "lurking" I wanted to post a few things that have been nagging me; I have read random posts from the beginning and every now and then things stick and then come back. The LE connection is something that has recently come up and has been bugging me. Several years ago in CA there was a CHP officer who was highly regarded - doing televised PSA's etc., and who was eventually convicted of murder - it started with stopping women under the guise of some infraction, which eventually escalated to murder. Another was a serial rapist, who was ultimately brought down by the description of a LE issued flashlight. It seems as if there is not enough to go on to arrest any of the POI's mentioned; and certainly with the amount of RSO's in the area that would be a huge red flag and a natural place to start. However - there seems to be no clear suspect(s) and in today's world, it seems as if nothing can be too far fetched -- here I go:

1. Yes, it was brilliant to track the garbage trucks to the landfill almost immediately (and a hard route to follow at that) - in most cases that occurs further along in an investigation; - LE
2. The "undercover" cop in the blue (?) car - LE
3. In an earlier post, it was mentioned about the soot - or like "fingerprinting dust" -LE
4. There was a somewhat vague and mysterious poster by BSO67 I believe - they were intimating that they had possible 'inside' knowledge' - saying things to the effect that the clues are right in front of everyone - just look beyond the obvious - does anyone see any connection in the initials? Maybe that was a clue to look elsewhere - LE

I don't know - it's disturbing and sad to even think of this angle - I hope all of you more expert sleuthers can poke some holes in this - I see a lot of you are regular posters and really go above and beyond...something's gotta give - thanks!

The one I posted wasn't the kid with developmental issues. I posted the Saeed guy. Saeed just had a bunch of the Somer news coverage on his YouTube channel...never did see any videos of him.

I have no doubt that someone in Orange Park saw or knows or suspects something! I refuse to believe that little Somer went missing and was killed and no one saw or later found out something!

I think these were the people Sheriff Beseler was addressing in that press conference that day.

Someone knows, or suspects, (other than the killer) who committed this horrific crime.
A family member of the killer, a friend of the killer, someone who works with (or for) the killer, a neighbor of the killer, a girlfriend or boyfriend of the killer.

Time for some truth-telling and sharing here: Two years ago, my beautiful daughter was kidnapped out of her home in the middle of the night by her ex-boyfriend and dragged through the neighborhood to the nearby woods where her ex planned on murdering her, but a neighbor woman and her husband (they are both saints to whom I am eternally grateful) heard her crying in the street and called 911. The police were already searching for my daughter due to the 911 call she had secretly dialed with her cell phone in her pocket. Between the neighbor's 911 call and my daughter's 911 call (before she lost her phone when she was beaten half-unconscious), the police were able to locate her and she was rescued. Her ex ran off as the police drove up, but they apprehended him later that night - at his mother's apartment (who lied and told the police he wasn't there when they went to arrest him). Right up to the trial and conviction, this man's mother insisted her son was innocent and, according to jail phone recordings, was even willing to lie on the witness stand (by offering false alibis) to protect her son (even though she knew he was guilty). Thankfully, he's now serving a prison sentence for kidnapping and 1st degree assault, and will be required to register his address for the rest of his life. Thankfully, my beautiful daughter survived, and every time I hug her or kiss her or just look at her sweet, smiling face, I am grateful that she is alive.

One of the many things I learned from my (and my daughter's) horrendous experience is that people will try to cover for someone, even when they absolutely know they are guilty!

Someone knows something! Someone close to the killer. As far as I'm concerned, if they don't come forward with what they know or suspect, they're just as guilty.

Sorrell - that story could have easily had a much worse outcome. I'm so glad that your daughter (and you) made it through that. How scary! I think you're right that people will go to all lengths to protect their family - and sometimes their friends. People have a lot of difficulty also in just accepting that someone they know could do something horrible. It's like they think if they don't believe it, then it didn't really happen. They can wish it away.

arghh! sorry about that. I'm easily confused. I'll have to go back and look at the guy you posted. I think I'm going to call it quits for the night and get some zzzzzzzzzz

Still tired from staying up late last night - it'll be the first think I look at in the morning. Night all!

I just watched the video at this link: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6nYudvMUF8"]YouTube- Where Is Somer Amber ? Amber Alert Issued[/ame]

The part that stood out to me was when the reporter asked Diena about the alleged child abduction that occurred 10 days prior to Somer's disappearance. Diena appeared to be quite tense and cautious in her response. She looked to her left and seemed - IDK - afraid? There was an emotion in her face and body language that suggested anger, fear - SOMETHING!!!

There is something that doesn't add up about that alleged attempted child abduction that has everyone going "Huh??!!"

I know if I were Diena, I'd be extremely upset if an attempted child abduction had occurred just 10 days prior to my own daughter's abduction and murder, and LE hadn't notified my neighborhood or taken any precautionary measures to protect my child or the other children in my neighborhood!
