Didn't they go on to say it was simple good old fashioned police work that prompted the officer credited for making the suggestion.

Kinda weird...if it was good old fashioined police work how come ONE guy thought of it....should have just been a natural process of thinking for each and everyone of 'em.

Yes, they certainly did say that & in other articles with a missing child it is standard textbook procedure & I have seen the ex. of Haleigh used (but I followed her story from the get go & don't remember that). It is or it isn't???

There has been an outpour of support from the community. A couple of groups have started (No Peace for Predators and Mothers Against Predators). You would think the schools would be on edge and doing something. It is disappointing though. The day after she went missing I took my son to school, I did not let him ride the bus that day. I walked him to the place where the kids go in the morning and found about 20 kids in the auditorium with no adult supervision. Elementary school kids... a day after a girl went missing... I was the only one there, these kids don't know me and it was 10 minutes prior to a teacher showing up. Talk about irate. An email/ letter to the school board and principal were sent out immedately. So in my opinion the schools are not doing anything differently. I received an apology, and that was all.
I volunteer at a youth association and have received assistance/ material from the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This material will be handed out on Saturday to all of our parents, there have been a few community events about child safety and ID kits.
I hate to say it but I feel like this is so tragic and yet will be forgotten too soon by the locals. Its like everyone cares and it has a shock factor but no one wants to commit and make things better, with the exception of a few.
I have my own opinions on JSO which is Jacksonville and they are not the greatest. I admire all of our law enforcement and their commitment to serve but do not agree with the policies and practices of JSO. Clay County is outside of my neighborhood but again, right next door to us. I am not too familiar with them (I once applied for JSO and quit during the LENGTHY application process based on the internal politics that were ongoing at the time- it was a real eye opener for me.)
The crime rate is high in Jax but not Clay. The two are much much different in population, etc. Lots of murders here in Jax. Mainly fights resulting in retaliation. There has been a lot of mention lately about Jax increasing in gang activity but I do not see it first hand. I am probably too old to know where gang activity would take place these days!
I will check back in tomorrow. Thanks for all the welcomes!

Sadnpod, go to bed, sweetie. LOL!
Tarabull, I think I've got XP, as well. You can't go to File and click Open New tab?
Now realize I did say I THINK I've got XP. Shows you how much I know. (Like right now I've got 4 tabs open).
Or is there something else your old Tyrannosaurus can do that I'm not following?

No rumors out there at all?

I just want to say, speaking of WLK - I think I see his brown 78 Cadillac in streetview parked in an empty lot beside the foreclosure address....before anyone says anything I KNOW STREETVIEW is not LIVE.

Just saying, it sure looks like it to me....but google maps is screwy, as in not accurate based on the placement of the foreclosure property at Clay County Parcels.

BUT if a person went to google maps and was to enter the foreclosure address.....in GCS.....switch to streetview and cruise past the school (with it on the LHS) - to # 72 - which is more the location of the parcel - anyways look to the left, back in between the two houses and Voilà!

There it is.

(IF i've said anything wrong here in my description of how to get there, please advise I will alter...nobody quote me just incase)

tarabull.

ETA: just realizing Clay County Parcels can also be screwy, as we've seen with other addresses (Horton Drive address comes to mind....) but the locations/placement always seems to be right - anyways FWIW it still appears to be about a 78 Caddy...brown i might add. Check it out...SNOOP around.

It's also in view on Bing.

Right. Either keep visual contact at all times. Wasn't the staging area right across the street? Or better still just substitute another one. Then you have them on scene later sorting through on camera. But, I always wondered if it WAS the same one, why not cover in plastic tarp and tow to a secure scene out of prying eyes. Just typing out loud.

Oh I wondered the same, as well with the dumpsters the 3 cadaver dogs hit on with Haleigh that the media covered for hours, LE sorting through. Why not haul it away out of the media eyes so it could be processed methodically??? Maybe in both cases that was done, however...you'd think that would be something LE would tell you, so the public is not thinking about OJ defense lawyers.

Thanks, Just-Us. Good night now, and I would have been horrified as well, kids w/no supervision. Best-case scenario there would have been a skinned knee or sprain. I know they were not all sitting down and being quiet.
Good for you, writing that letter. Wonder if it did any good?
Sleep well.

Ironically, Somer had a fight the day she disappeared.....

I know that you all know, that I know that YOU ALL KNOW but just saying.

Actually, they should be thinking OJ's prosecutors!
OK, laughing my way to bed, now.
Maybe tomorrow...
PS Strange that the dumpster in Haleigh's case got the sniff test and now this, isn't it?

Not one that I have heard. The only thing I can honestly say that I have heard people complain about (other than the obvious) is the multiple funds and fundraisers being done and not knowing where the $ is going.
One thing to keep in mind is that the street DeBarry runs right near the local mall (Orange Park Mall). Less than a 1/2 mile away. I drove past the Memorial and have actually gone to the mall every weekend just to see if I can keep my eyes and ears open. I guess the message I want to get out there is while yes, the road Gano may look desolate in portion DeBarry is a very busy street running through Wells Rd (which is where the Orange Park Mall is located) and Kingsley Avenue. This is a very populated road as a cut through to avoid "OP traffic" which is usually heavy between 4-6pm . So it may have been someone on their way through the area.

Thanks. My last post tonight, too. I can't buy someone just passing through too much because wouldn't they keep on going. Not hang around with her there, or come back just to put her body out. It really is confounding, every way you turn it.

I think I've seen that article before, but it was fascinating to read it again.
EVEN QUOTED WK! Thanks for the link!
I don't know what to say or think about your situation. I would think the schools would be holding self-defense and awareness seminars, that moms would be making dang sure no kid was ever left behind, put ahead, or by him/herself for one minute. Programs to keep kids safe and together until picked up by parent or responsible adult.
No changes in the day to day routine? That just doesn't make any sense to me.
I'm a member of our Citizen's Police Academy Alumni, here. One of the best things I've ever done, and I think I saw that Orange Park had one, too.
We've learned a lot about protocols, strategies, standard operating procedures, etc. But the one thing they keep stressing is that the public must believe in and have faith in their LE-and that only comes w/communication from LE itself.
I confess-I'm at a loss as to where your various LE depatments are coming from, here.
What's the feeling you have of how LE is perceived? How's the crime rate overall? Any special task forces?

I was impressed wiht the officers involved in somers situation when I met them. But I have to be honest that jax LE does not have that good of a rep in my opinion. (Im a local too for those that dont know) I often complain that jax has the venues for good bands to come here, but alot pass us by.. when I said this to a member of a band he said that they dont play jax cause the "Cops are too red" meaning they are like a gang of their own., of course not all are I am sure... but times have changed so much.. i get a general concensus that people dont trust police like they did in "my day" when u were told to run to police for help.. but u knew them then too.. and ur neighors. I think no matter where we live, or how closely we watch our children, that bad things happen to good people as long as evil is among us. I cant figure out any way to stop it.. except to keep from being an easy victim. All criminals are lazy imo. The harder u make it for them, they will move on until they find the person on "white"..not paying attention..not on guard.. on "yellow" always... kids are always on white and I want them to be.. WE HAVE TO STAY ON YELLOW AT LEAST AND PROTECT THEM!!! and WLK.. i hope you feel remorse for what you did.. what you were convicted of... but imo... u should never have been let out.. never... you hurt a child and we shouldnt even have to wonder if he did this or not...

No No you are following my T-Rex perfectly f-i-n-e fine....

but I must have missed that XP update cuz if I follow your directions I get a new window rather than a new tab in my current window.

There's something else I can look up....(my missing update !?!) LOL

But thanks for your (technical) support....very much appreciated.

Now if we can just get Justice for Somer we will be set! KWIM?

All right, folks - Guy Ritchie's calling to me. No tellin' what kind of :crosseyed: ideas I might come up with tomorrow after watching one of his crazy screenplays!

Good night all!

I wonder if DWK is WLK's alibi.

I mean I truly think since the foreclosure was the next day it's very possible that WLK went to visit his brother at Kingsley Ave the afternoon of the 19th.

If we read into astros he might have also gone to his brother for GAS $$$$$$....

Either way, he'd have easily crossed paths with Somer that afternoon.

And YES I sadly think it's very possible WLK was a familiar face to Somer.

I think DAR & DT could have been connected thru that society DT belonged to.

Are you picking up what I'm laying down?

ETA: HOLY DOODLE I just hit 300 posts! Yowza! (not to mention, 4 posts on the past 2 pages - MommaD & Noway are gonna think I'm trying to beat the record LOL so it's time folks, i'm out....g'night everyone - may tomorrow bring Justice For Somer!)

OK....so I'm having a REALLY hard time backing away from the computer.

Realized today - Nov 19th - is an entire month since Somer disappeared!!!!!

That's much too long - considering she was found rather quickly >>> you'd think.....nevermind.

Just pleading, when is this case gonna break?!?!?!?

W-T-Hay?

Anyways, PLEASE let today finally really be The Day!

JUSTICE FOR SOMER!

Throwin' "double dueces" on my way out cuz I know what that is now cuz of Somer and she would...

So if I understand all that, they would pick up commercial garbage, which could include construction debris and broken glass.

Two possible issues with this.

1. Grove Park isn't within Orange Park city limits. It's an unincorporated part of Clay County which is why Clay County is investigating the case.

2. I believe if you can find a picture you will see that regular garbage trucks do not have the lift mechanism to up end a dumpster. Residential garbage trucks are loaded by hand into the back of the truck. Commercial dumpster trucks are loaded by lift into the top of the truck.
