Since you brought it up, I don't see anybody blaming his wife for letting Adam out of her site for a few minutes in a store.
What's the difference really? In reality, she should have kept her eyes on him the whole time.
But, she didn't. I'm not blaming her, I'm trying to make a point.
If every parent kept their kids by their sides 24/7 no child would be taken by
strangers and murdered.
Are all parents that this happens too guilty? NO
I just don't choose to blame DT for this. IMO she did not kill Somer, her "neglect" did not kill Somer.

OMG, your serious? That happened in an instant! This is an ongoing everyday thing!!!!

I agree & just going down Gano would be hard as that was the last place she was seen. I imagine there would be many triggers. Plus her daughter has been murdered & the monster has not been caught, wouldn't you want to personally take your children to school perhaps even walk them in and walk them out until this monster has been caught? I would be taking no chances as the motive for killing Somer is not known KWIM?

Nah, it would be easier to get the neighbors to do it. Plenty in the community eager to help out.

I really don't know why DT should have to defend herself, she has plenty of people to do it for her.

When my boys were young, I told them: Don't lie. If you tell a lie, then you will have to keep telling more lies to cover that lie up, and you will soon lose track of what you said.

And: You can always come to me about anything. I promise I will understand. I will do whatever I can to help. If you make a mistake, you can correct it. There is always a way to do better.

If you haven't done anything wrong, there is nothing to lie about. If you are innocent, there is no reason to cover anything up. If you lie, there is something you do not want people to know.

If you lie to me, and I find out, then I will never be able to really trust you in the future. Because once you lie, people no longer know what to believe.

Yes, I am serious. It only takes an instant.

Like I said in the post you quoted, I am not now or would I ever blame Adam's mom. My point is, children go missing and are murdered everyday.
Some parents look away for an instant, some parents let their children walk
home from school.
Looking away for an instant is not a crime. She should not be blamed.
Letting your child walk home from school w/ siblings and other children is not a crime. She should not be blamed.

Neither of these mothers IMO were neglegent. Their children are dead.
IMO the blame is on the monsters who killed them.

Now, if what DT did was criminal, lock her up.
But, there is nothing pointing that way for me right now.

It is my opinion.

sorry, but as a mom, your number one job is to take care of and protect your children....she should be going through all the emotions with them....whether she wants to face it or not....this is how healing begins. She is strong enough....she now needs to be involved with every aspect of their lives.

Last interview asked how the kids were doing, she said she didn't talk to them about it but "left that to the counselors to handle". Her strength needs to be collected, apparently, for defending her perceived onslaught of negative public opinion against her.

Another item of interest--at one point there was some discussion on this forum of whether the perp could be LE. Just noticed on the Clay County daily bulletin that this fellow, who was on probation for impersonating LEO last March was picked up again on 1-13. While his act didn't work on a 29-year-old, it might have been enough to get a vulnerable child in a car.

Honestly, we dont know if her neglect killed somer, do we? We do know she continues to think of herself above her children, IMO. I will bring back to this forum a memory that haunts me night and day.

Lil st curled in a fetal position, sobbing, clutching his purple hanky. AND HIS MOTHER DID NOT COMFORT HIM. She clung to her man. The kids were on their own in their grief. I saw this with my own eyes. Can we please stop concentrating on defense of this mother and get back to what is important.. the true victims... SOMER and her siblings. They did not cause this. They are not responsible. They deserve better. Would you not agree to that?

Poor DT is a grown woman who can deal with her choices. Somer did not get a choice in being unsupervised. Her sister did not get a choice in a decision that will effect the rest of her life. Her mother made it for her and it was the wrong one.

This case is not similar to Adams case at all.

Did I ever give any indication that I don't feel for Somer's siblings?
I know they did not cause this.
I am not concentrating on defense of DT. But, I do have my own thoughts and opinions. I can state them. If posters can state they think DT was neglagent, I can state I don't think she was.

Just because I don't share the popular opinion does not make mine any less valid IMO.

The reason I mentioned Adams case was to make a point. If you read my post you will see I stated that very plainly. It is similar in the fact a child died by being taken and murdered. Weather is was in an instant or 30 minutes, the outcome is the same.

Again, my posts are my opinion.

I agree that you are entitled to your opinions...I certainly didnt imply you cant state them, kim, or that your thoughts arent valid. I was simply doing the same thing.

I have no idea if its popular or not and dont care.

We know adam's case. We do not know Somers, so we dont know yet if the outcome is the same. We dont know if she was "taken" and "murdered". We only know she is dead.

I'm going to post something that is really hard for me to say....and yes it is through great anguish and tears.

A year and a half ago I had to tell my children that their dad passed away in Iraq. I had no family around, I only had my military community. My teens were able to understand, though they were obviously very distraught.

Later that morning, I had to tell my 8 yr old son, and it was the most horrible feeling ever (it was by far the hardest thing I've ever had to do)....he curled up under a blanket crying his eyes out, trying to be strong, and I embraced him as hard as I could...not letting go. I wanted nothing more than to just absorb his pain so that he didn't have to feel it. I will never ever forget those awful moments. I knew then that it was up to me to help all of them through this ordeal, no matter what.

Day by day the subject was discussed, "how is everyone doing today....lets talk...how are we feeling?" The lines of communication were always open, and day by day we got through it together.

So I know that DT's kids need her more than ever, and I know that she has the strength to pull herself through, and still be there for them....they all need each other right now. Why? Because only they can talk about their true feelings regarding Somer. I think it will help DT immensely, and the children will be very grateful to have her there when they need her.

So when someone asked how I could say what she should or shouldn't do....this is where it is coming from.

Would someone from Somer's neighborhood be in that school's attendance zone (magnet program or something?) or would they have to live elsewhere in the area?

It's about 10 miles from Somer's house.

NOTE: 6th grade students from Argyle Elementary, OakLeaf Village Elementary and Plantation Oaks Elementary school zones will attend Oakleaf Junior High (OLJH: 6-8).

NOTICE: Clay County School District attendance zones are subject to change with School Board action. All such actions are presented in public board meetings.
