Maybe you can help - what is the purpose of this thread? If it's to cast mom Diena as the negligent and irresponsible mom, culpable for the murder of her child, than I would like to see more evidence than just opinions by those who need to cast her as such.

The case was closed in two weeks - and a Social Worker made the report. Now I'm wondering how a SW would know that one of the children was alone in the woods alone with a man. I'm wondering if this SW is a man and has been investigated. I'm pretty sure this was discussed back in the beginning theads. not sure though all my opinion

I agree, there is something really hinky about this report.

JMHO... I think it is one article based on more than one report.

How close to a year was it that this report was made and Somer was killed?

Sommer was murdered.....by a monster.

Agreed - a monster who knew that dumping her in the garbage to be compacted and dumped in another state would give him time to be free. DNA destroyed and the body wasn't fit for viewing at the wake. Whoever did this is one sadistic bottom feeder slug. mho

the report was made Oct. 20008, closed in two weeks. The article is on the previous page with a link. Wonder how a SW would know such things about children?

Thanks for clarifying that Sad. The way it got put out I thought an arrest was imminent. Got a little excited that they had finally caught this sick person.

I bet the cops see that it is just too much of a coincidence 1 year after this report was made that Somer was killed. I mean what are the odds?

Fears for Somer Thompson’s safety expressed a year before her slaying
Social worker's warning a year before slaying was later shown to be without basis

* By Jim Schoettler
* Story updated at 6:10 AM on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010
ORANGE PARK — A social worker at Somer Thompson’s school warned about the danger of the 7-year-old girl’s walks from school a year before a killer snatched her on her way home, state records show.

The unidentified worker told the Department of Children and Families that Somer and her three siblings got lost at least once walking from Grove Park Elementary School and were found in woods with a stranger. The worker indicated that Somer’s mother needed to pay more attention to the children’s safety and get them into day care at the school.

But a two-week probe by Children and Families concluded the allegation about the children getting lost and being found with a stranger had no basis. It also found Diena Thompson properly arranged for her children to be taken to and from school, about a mile away, and that it was acceptable for them to walk home when necessary. Day care was suggested to her as an option, but not a requirement.

The case was closed without any findings of wrongdoing, according to the records provided to the Times-Union last week.

RESPECTFULLY snipped~~~

BBM
Who found the children? Anybody know?

ITA with you eyes. I hope they find him. soon. And gosh darn it I hope they are on to him and investigation isn't sitting and spinning.

I think an LE update, in light of the recent DCFS article, would be appropriate to keep the story in the media and public view in terms of lead/tip generation, etc and to reassure the public that they are still fully engaged. moo of course

Dang who is this worker?

The worker indicated that Somer’s mother needed to pay more attention to the children’s safety and get them into day care at the school.

Why would someone make that kind of statement if they did not have anything to back up their accusation? Did this SW just make up the story?

NO Doc, there is alot more that is not being said... MOOOOOOOO

The Social Workers story stinks.

I will look forward to seeing it.

But from the evidence we have now, the story stinks.

Well, the social worker was wrong. It was just unfounded.A whole year went by with out incident. That speaks volumes to me.

It stinks to me too.I want to know who talked to the social worker.

I think the odds are Somer would have been more likely to have been killed in a car wreck riding to and from school then killed walking to school.[/QUOTE

Odds would have been better than being killed by a meteorite, winning the lottery, whatever you want to say.

It is not easy to get a case to be investigated by DCS. They have kids with cig burns, broken bones, etc. I'm sure there was a lot in the case file that finally triggered an investigation.

DCS gave suggestions and she chose not to take them.

I guess it was worth it to gamble for DT that there was no issue.

We are not talking hypothetical here or statistical odds.

Your doctor can tell you to lose weight and exercise and you may choose not to and gamble that you will be one of the statistical odds that doesn't get one of the diseases that goes with those issues.

DCS gave their suggestions. DT didn't choose to follow their expert advice. Oh well. Somer made it another year.

I didn't expect an arrest, although that would be the best news. I was expecting information that would clear things up somewhat and possibly provide a long overdue avenue for investigation. I am still hoping that will be the case. I know we are all anxious for something, ANYTHING, to happen.

I hope and pray that this investigation is nearing a successful conclusion.
