I feel it is time for all school systems to have a bus system to and from school.Especially for elementary children. These little ones are too young to have to be walking to school and back home. The blame needs to be on the right persons.I feel very strongly the school system needs to be held accountable and keep our children safe and have a bus system.

There is still the problem of a young child walking home alone from the bus stop.

Walking from the bus stop to home will always be a problem, as will roller skating, bike riding, and playing outdoors after school. I think it's easier just to get rid of all the pedophiles, child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 producers and distributors. take the profit out of kiddie 🤬🤬🤬🤬! moo

I left teaching in '08 but one of my duties for one school year was serving as a crossing guard where the school property meets public property. A cute little first grader who decided he'd walk home one day instead of talking the bus. I had no way of knowing that he should ride the bus as I wasn't his teacher. (someone dropped the ball about making sure he was on the bus) When he didn't get off the bus his mom called the school worried to pieces. Thankfully, the older student he was walking with made sure he got home safely. I was upset because I should have been given a list of students who were 'walkers' in order to prevent this from occuring. I think his mom spanked his little bottom when he got home. We were worried to death.

Sadly Somer's case has brought attention to this issue and hopefully schools will be more vigilant in ensuring student's safety during dismissal. Dismissal is a chaotic time of the school day. I don't find it odd that the crossing guard doesn't remember seeing Somer that day. It only takes a small distraction, like a child's skinned knee, to miss seeing a student as they walk by.

Once a student departs the bus, the parents are responsible for seeing the child makes it home safely from there and the school system is no longer in charge of the child.

We also had a volunteer crossing guard on public property at the closest street corner to the school thru the local Sheriff's Dept. He was not in contact with the school regarding the kids routes though. his job was only to see that they safely crossed the street.

I think it is so important to see that students get home safely after they exit the bus and would even volunteer to monitor to ensure a safe journey home.

Many mom's are single and working and are unable to be home in the afternoon. The kids then go home and are 'latchkey' kids for a few hours til mom gets home. Unfortunately, this is a perfect time for pervs to stalk their prey.

School systems and parents need to recognize the dangers this presents and step up and be a voice. Kids need to feel independent and be able to grow by walking a few short blocks home but we as adults and responsible citizens need to guarantee them this right by helping them to do so. It really does take a village these days!

IMO the home in Callahan could be the crime scene.

I doubt he killed her in Callahan and then brought her body back to his neighborhood.

I think his Callahan home had to be searched for possible evidence of the murder, and also for possibly more pornographic materials.

My opinion Only.

You know what worries me? Have any other children been reported missing between FL and MS or in MS since the time he moved there? I wonder if LE is looking at him being a POI other child abductions in FL. This blows me away, that he was such a close neighbor. Get to know your neighbors folks! Especially those who set off the hinky meter!

i read something the other day when JH was arrested... someone posted that his name was brought up in the Haleigh Cummings case... for people to check him out & the person that posted the info stated all his past residences as well as two vehicles... one being a suzuki and the other a camero. I think the Suzuki was yellow & a small SUV if I'm not mistaken...

I agree.I have either always walked my children to and from school or went to their bus stop and picked them up from the bus stop.My kids never walk alone or go outside and play alone.I do find it acceptable for a older child to pick them up from the bus stop and stay with them at home untill someone gets home from school or work.

:waitasec:Hello Folks, are there more arrest warrants for JH? The only one that I have seen is dated Feb 10/10. Just curious as would LE need a different one for each jurisdiction? ie Miss/Callahan/Gano OP TIA

A "walking school bus" is another idea.

Or, some sort of break for LE to live in houses that are close to schools. If small kids see a police car in the driveway, they can identify a safe house.

I was thinking they could have digging in the yards for any kind of evidence,Somers book bag ect...anything of Somers.Maybe a weapon.I pray not body parts.Just anything that will link this guy with Somers death.Did they bring search or cadaver dogs at these places.

You know, not releasing much information from the beginning (lunchbox, bookbag, cause of death, which dumpster, search at 1080 Gano, etc...) could have been a ploy to allow him to live a careless life, so he could be safely watched. Could be.

a police presence in the neighborhood certainly would help. Unfortunately, LE doesn't have enough manpower to post an officer at each stop. But community volunteers who are screened through the school or PTA or Sheriff's Dept. Would certainly be an asset in assuring they make it home safely. Parent's also have to be vigilant in making arrangements for their little ones gettin home safely. It is usually only one or two blocks that elementary students have to walk home once departing the bus. (In my city anyway)

As we know from Somer's case, bad things can happen whether they are walking from the school or the bus. Parents also need to have a 'secret word' with their children. If someone attempts to lure the child, pick up the child etc., the child should ask for the 'secret word' befroe going with them.

I don't blame Somer's mom.....(i've been a single mom myself) it sounds like she had safety precautions in mind for her children. But Somer left the 'herd' and ran off alone. Something which Deina had no control over, sadly. We just need to educate our children and train them of the dangers of this cruel world. But it seems like noone wants to address the issue of the dangers out there. Local PTA's could champion this cause and offer awareness workshops for parents and students, complete with techniques that would draw attention if the student were in a threatening situation.....but that doesn't raise funds for projects, does it? I don't mean to rag on PTA organizations as i was a PTA president myself, but somebody's gotta educate our kids. Not to scare them but to empower them. Ignorance is Bliss? NOT when it concerns our kids.

Education and awareness and a Village mentality are imperative.

Is a program that is out there, just for this reason.
It's in a lot of communities/schools already (search-able on the site) but if not the information is available on the site how to start one in your community or school.

The radKIDS® Personal Empowerment Safety Education Program is not only a realistic safety program; it is also the only character education, self-esteem building, and anti-violence education program of its kind today.

The John Harrell,Haleigh Cummings connection?I don't know if there is.I just think I remembered the name Harrell.I personally feel very strongly Misty is deffinantly the key and the cause in Haleighs case.I feel Misty knew who she was with that night and something happened to Haleigh because of her.Drugs and all.I don't think this Jarred guy has anything to do with Haleigh. But you never know.

The name Jarred is familiar to me also, just can't remember where I read about him.
