Man Has Bizarre Connection To Harrell

POSTED: Thursday, March 4, 2010
UPDATED: 5:56 pm EST March 4, 2010

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Joseph Newman, who's predicting the possible end of the world in 2012 and has been featured on the Johnny Carson show for inventing a well-publicized energy machine, has a bizarre connection to Jarred Harrell, the man named as a person of interest in the killing of Somer Thompson.

Two newspaper articles that are more than 20 years old detail how Newman married Harrell's mother and his 8-year-old sister.

Newman told the newspaper God told him to do it.

Harrell's mother told the paper that her daughter loves Newman and is committed to him.

Sounds like Philip Garrido. No wonder the POI is so messed up, not that there's actually any excuse for being involved in child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 or possible murder.

It's strange that originally in searching (in all these cases in general) we rely on dogs, crossing guards, kids, other witnesses & then when it doesn't fit our theory we poke holes in which ever doesn't fit our theory lol...I understand as, is it not science & subjective to the witnesses, when it has been proven they aren't always reliable although they try, and dogs/depends on experience, wind, temp., etc.

It will be interesting as in all cases to find out, how the clues the witnesses & the dogs panned out. Theses dogs will certainly help with stats. for the future. I love these kind of specialized dogs & the research on these animals is getting better & better. They are fascinating in the different, and the specialized areas they can be specifically trained to do. I am getting off track on the dogs lol & talking in general.

ETA - I feel the same way about psychics, the public psychotherapists, the P. Browns, etc. These are all valuable tools; I am always interested to know of those who is right for the future (hindsight is 20-20), because we all know there will be another and another...tragically.

I suppose Jarred could have information about Somer's murder that he would not have been likely to come forward with, given his child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 connection.

Hi Noway......

Do you think that JH is NOT connected to Somer's murder?

Dar107 - I'm at a loss my friend! Why would you ask such a question? If there were pics of Somer on the internet we would have heard of that some 38 threads ago, months and months ago.

I hope this beautiful child can rest in peace with memories of her loving family and siblings. I will remember her always as a caring, spunky, loving and gentle child who loved bunnies, puppies, and would go to the library with her little friends to look at pictures of the animals she couldn't touch in person. NOBODY has the right to tarnish her image - NOBODY!!! MOO

Eyes, I was lost too, and was trying to figure out what it was that was being alluded to. I absolutely agree with you! I do not in anyway think that to be the case, and yes we would have been discussing it way before now, the posters here are great sleuths and no doubt, reporters come here for their tips!!

What are the reasons that you see how the dogs did not get a scent? Especially if she went into the yard where there is grass?

I am sure these dogs are highly capable and well trained and do a lot of good work. I was referring to all the things that could throw them off, such as wind and traffic and possibly picking up Somer's sent from the day before. I have not seent he interview with the dogs handler, but Noway had a post about what the handler said about possible reasons the dog could lose the scent.

Hopefully, we can all agree on respecting Somer for the beautiful 7yo child that she was. Somer didn't run around aimlessly, have fights, nor did she appear to be a sad or bitter child, and certainly was NOT put on the internet for pedophiles to lust over! She was a curious, gentle, and beautiful 7yo - please let's all portray her the way she was! Somer was murdered and thrown in the trash - I feel very protective of her and, although she is no longer with us, we can all preserve the beautiful qualities that radiated from this beautiful child. MOO

Eyes - such a great post. Down to basics. Period. I appreciate your sentiments, and wholeheartedly agree.

I am really paraphrasing here, but they said that it could be blown around on the road and it would be much better if it was in the grass and/or the woods.

So, all I can see is that she must have gone into the yard of JH and that would not be blown around as much as on the street.

In addition, it's been reported that she was on Debarry and Gano, which would put her past the JH house.

But, the third crossing guard says that s/he did not see her pass, which would put her before the JH house.

That is why I am mystified by this all. Not that I don't think that JH fits the perfect perp profile in every way; I just don't see how it's possible if you look at those reports.

Human, ITA. I have wanted to post a map from another site, but didn't know if it would be okay. I guess I'll go ahead because for me, it's been invaluable and very helpful. Big shout out to Brandi at SM for making this. It is the guard at Grove Park that did not see Somer that day. There has been some confusion since there are apparently only 3 crossing guards instead of 4-so just ignore the one at Bay Circle. To put it in perspective, JH's house would be right about where the crossing guard at Grove is.

Who has to name someone a prime suspect so that this becomes necessary?

prime suspectn. the one person law enforcement officers believe most probably committed a crime being investigated. Once a person is determined to be a prime suspect, the police must be careful to give the "Miranda warnings," or take the risk that any admissions (any evidence gained from the statements) by the suspect may be excluded in trial. (See: Miranda warning)

Did the States Attorney say this in any official capacity?

"I can tell you we continue to work him as a primary person of interest or suspect, whichever way you want to phrase it, in the Somer Thompson case," Corey said. "He's still a viable suspect in that case and we continue to work it actively every day."

Crocus, until I read the statement below by Angela Corey, I didn't think Jarred Harrell was anything more than a _______ witness to Somer Thompson's murder.

"I think the community who has grieved for Somer, has prayed and worried with all of us, can be at ease right now," Corey said.

What do you mean by "a perverted witness?" :waitasec: And why would you question that a State Attorney's statement was in "official capacity" or not?

I thought JH saw something, but opted not to go to LE because of his interest in child 🤬🤬🤬🤬, which might come to light. (Maybe I should not have called him that.)

Although, LE contacted him at some point (after 10/23 I guess), since he was not cooperating with their investigation (as related to Somer).

I wonder who has to call someone a prime suspect in order for them to be read their rights (as defined above ... otherwise statements can be thrown out).

Was she naming him a prime suspect in her official capacity as States Attorney or what? Just telling the public what they want to hear? Was there an underlying reason for these comments, which seemed unprofessional to me, given CCSO tight-lipped attitude and careful statements that none of the charges, none of the evidence so far against JH is related to Somer Thompson.

Maybe primary suspect and prime suspect are not the same thing.

I was just worried she was screwing up the case.

LOL Noway! This isn't her first rodeo........ I think she is fully aware what she is saying and the ramifications her statements potentially hold.

LE has officially named this twisted child molester a POI - he has, in no way, been named a 'suspect'...not that I have read.

Are you thinking this perverted pedophile bully may have seen something regarding the murder of Somer? Are you thinking his family might be involved? Someone he is friends with? I'm confused as to why you think he would hold back this information - he's charged with molestation and 29 counts of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬, why would he hold back? TIA
