GREAT POINT NEW

OF COURSE I picture that hat as a toque...LOL

NEVER heard much more tho - no description of the hat and scarf, not even that they'd been located.

Would they tell us if they had?

I doot it. LOL (that's doubt in Canadian)

Because we never heard details on them the way we did the bookbag and lunchbox, I figured they had been found with her body. JMO, no fact.

If they were found at the school, I think that would have been mentioned because they wouldn't have anything to do with Somer's death. People could just stop looking.

If they were found at her home, then I'd wonder if she really had worn them that day (check with AT and ST and Anna Braddy, who had driven Somer to school) or whether she had made it home before going out again ...

So PERHAPS the murder weapon?

Protecting Our Children
March 6, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm – First Baptist of Orange Park

It only takes 32 seconds for a predator to lure a child away! We are proud to partner with community leaders and organizations to educate our community on how to protect our children. In light of the tragedy with Somer Thompson last fall, we as a church are seeking ways to ensure this never happens again.

We are supportive of Diena and the Thompson family and have been seeking ways to continue to comfort and serve her as well as the entire community. This event, we believe, is needed for our community.

Ken Wooden of Child Lures Prevention will be here for this special FREE event. Ken is an Emmy award winning investigative reporter who has been featured on the Today show, CBS Morning Show, 20/20, 48 Hours, Oprah and other shows discussing this subject and the information he's gleaned from hundreds of interviews with sexual predators and child molesters. He's discovered there are ten "lures" that are used by these individuals. They're not limited to luring young children. The same techniques are used on college campuses and military bases where young adults are located.

Booklets for parents will be available for $5.

This event is for adults. There is no child-care provided.

Mark your calendars now and plan to be here at First Baptist Church of Orange Park on March 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Maybe that; maybe as a restraint (scarf). IDK ... just supposition as to why we never heard about them again, even if it was to say that they were found at school.

IIRC DT made a statement right after JH was named a person of interest that she didn't want to get her hopes up.
If he is charged, I'm sure she will make that statement thanking LE or a statement about how thankful she is.

I think to make that sort of statement now would be crazy. How can you be thankful the killer was caught BEFORE he is charged?

I did find a statement from a family representative but it wasn't DT directly.

http://www.news4jax.com/news/22542514/detail.html

The family of Somer Thompson released a statement Thursday afternoon saying, "At this time, DT(Somer's mother) and her family are monitoring the latest developments in the investigation into the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson. However, DT is not prepared to speak publicly on the matter and asks that you please respect her and her family’s privacy as they continue to process events as they unfold. In the near future, DT will address the media on the latest developments in the case."

Very quiet for someone who has been so vocal for months. I know what you mean about no charge though but person of interest isn't something to sneeze at especially since there has been NO news before that for 4 months. I think DT doesn't think he's the killer unless she would have been on air.

Of course, I've never heard what kind of hat it was, but if it was cold enough that day to wear a hat and scarf, wouldn't it have fit better with her hair down than it would with her hair up in a ponytail? Also, wearing your hair down is warmer than wearing it in a ponytail. When I think about the white hat and scarf, I think about a knit boggin type of hat and maybe the scarf was attached to the hat. We have never seen a description of the hat and scarf like we have of the book bag, have we?

good point.. you are right you can't really wear a hat with a ponytail - and since it would be cold that morning, you'd rather have your hair down than up to cover your ears.. hmmm.. so i guess maybe they could have found the hat/scarf at home and just didn't mention it again b/c maybe DT thought Somer took it but didn't.. and maybe LE didn't recant the hat/scarf statement b/c then it would appear to some people that by saying the hat/scarf was at the home, that maybe Somer came home afterall after school... and that opens a huge can of worms.. so instead they just didn't mention it again.
I don't think she wore the hat either - not if the ponytail claim from DT is accurate.
Maybe one day we will know...

Oh, I wish we knew what evidence makes JH a POI but LE won't call him a suspect. Is he a red herring or do they really have evidence connecting him to somer's murder, like DNA or finding something of somer's in his house or car? I can't remember just how the Sherriff worded it when he said JH was a POI. Does anyone remember if he said JH was a POI in the MURDER of somer, or did he say POI in the INVESTIGATION of the murder of somer? Where do you think the murder scene was? I don't think it was in his house on Gano because LE would have spent more time there searching and I don't recall seeing crime scene tape there. The only two places I saw roped off with crime scene tape was the 1080 Gano house and the landfill and personally, I don't think either of those places was the actual murder scene. JMO....I have no idea WHERE the murder scene was.

JH has been arrested and named as a person of interest in her death. Mr. H was arrested today as well for 29 unrelated counts of possession of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.

I really don't think crime scene tape means anything. I have seen it used for everything, even crowd control. It's main purpose is to keep people out of the area and I think they were doing that at the Gano house with all the cars and the block being shutdown.

I am watching Cnn right now and just saw a girl with a stocking cap and her hair in a ponytail.

Was there anything to tie crime scene tape to at the Gano/JH house to block off the yard?

An article on different responses for different missing children - some people have public relations professional and many with the most media coverage have money. I think ALL missing children should be treated the same - look at little Lindsey in Washington State, they called her a runaway for the longest time. All that makes a difference in getting the media spotlight.

~~respectfully snipped~~
Perhaps the biggest determinant in getting the attention of law enforcement and reporters is whether there are signs of foul play that may put other children at risk. The skill of a victim's family at working with the media and mobilizing supporters also helps decide which cases capture public interest.

~~respectfully snipped~~
Children from wealthy families tend to generate more attention, said Finkelhor, partly because the parents seem to be more adept at working with the media and building networks.
~~respectfully snipped~~
Chelsea's parents, Brent and Kelly King, patiently and skillfully worked with the media through their anguish, aided by a volunteer public relations professional. In interviews, they gave Chelsea's life story: the oldest child of long-married parents, straight-A student, French horn player in the youth symphony, avid long-distance runner, tireless volunteer for school and community activities.

Not sure why anyone would negatively discuss a parent who grabs the media spotlight? Their child is missing and they need to do EVERYTHING possible to get the word out.

Call the parent what you wish - media hog, etc but that's what gets things done and your child found. MOO

Him going on tv the way he did etc and whatever excuses he makes for his step kids etc. I don't buy it one bit. I'm convinced they either knew for a long time or planted this on him. DT as well was all about her as well. I'm shocked she isn't on tv. You would think she would make a statement about how grateful she is that Somer's killer has been caught. I think she knows it's a frame up. He's the perfect fall guy. Where is the evidence of the murder??? If they had it, they would have charged him by now.

Did they also frame JH directing and participating in the home video?

At http://www.myfoxorlando.com/dpp/news/local/021110-somer-case in the video, I see crime scene tape.

I think @ 0:36 and 0:49 ... maybe have street blocked off with it on either side?

ETA
@1:00 mark ... Sheriff said he cannot comment further about how Harrell is connected to the Somer Thompson case.

Yes there is crime scene tape there.

I find a couple of things interesting in the story on that page. First thing is there were 2 houses searched in Mississippi and the reporter says it was evidence found in the Gano/JH house that led the sheriff to naming JH a poi. Wonder where they got that info.

Authorities are searching two homes in Lauderdale County, Mississippi
and in Calahan, Florida, respectively. A search conducted on Thursday morning at 1152 Gano Avenue in Orange Park, where Harrell formerly resided, has already yielded evidence which led authorities to name him as a person of interest in the case. Harrell is being held on a $1 million bond.

The reporter also states the police were there all day searching the house and into the night. That was a live broadcast at 10:00 pm.

The two houses are ONE in Meridian, MS -- Lauderdale County and ONE in Callahan, FL (Nassau County).

But I'm curious as to what they'd have found at the Orange Park house to connect him to the case in any way ...
