From this article it seems like the police determined that the victims and the accused knew each other prior to the murders: “The only motivation for this senseless crime was that CJ Patterson did not like one of the victims and wanted to kill someone,” Haworth said."

Also appears that the accused was already in juvenile custody when he was placed under arrest for these murders, so these senseless killings were obviously not his first foray into criminal behavior.

That was my thought too. Two boys dead and the third will likely spend his life behind bars. Since the Sheriff stated that the 15 yo killed them because he didn’t like one of them and because he wanted to kill someone, I figure that CJP either confessed or bragged to someone or both.

I was just guessing with my own thoughts that he probably somehow gave up the information while in jail.
