Ok - here is today's article. Its from the newspaper but it basically says what they did last night on TV.

FORT LAUDERDALE - Doctors tried to bring Josie Lou Ratley out of her medically induced coma but reversed course when she developed a high fever, her family's lawyer said this weekend.

Ratley, 15, remains comatose and in critical condition at Broward General Medical Center, where officials say her condition has neither improved nor worsened.

Also being held as an accomplice is a 13-year-old friend who prosecutors say knew Treacy intended to harm Ratley and led him to the victim.
The girl's lawyer, Jonathon Marne, has said she did not take Treacy's threat to harm Ratley seriously and did not witness the attack.

This still makes me question exactly what happened with the text messages. How did the 13 year old know that Treacy intended to harm Ratley? Was it because she read it in one of the text messages? Or was it because of what he said when she met him at the school? Surely if it was at the school then she knew that he was serious, especially after almost attacking another girl that he thought was Ratley. This is just one more piece of evidence that for me points to the possibility that the 13 year old sent and received at least some of the text messages herself, perhaps even the one that supposedly set Treacy off into such a violent rage. She obviously had knowledge of the brother's suicide which Ratley might not have even known about since she did not personally know Treacy.

I believe that the 13 year old sent the offensive message and then led him to Ratley and let her take the blame for it when she discovered how angry he was, which in my book makes her just as responsible as Treacy for what happened to Josie Ratley. JMO Sure wish they would release all the text messages, and then perhaps we would have a better understanding of exactly who did what.

I am still praying for Josie's and hope that she can make a full recovery and live a normal way.

From what has been reported, even Josie herself received a text message from this boy that he intended to harm her. Presumably she could have showed it to the 13 years old since the messages where from the 13 year old's boyfriend.
Since the 13 years old was supposedly dating him, why would she send any sort of "disparaging" messages to him? Albeit some articles described him as her "ex-boyfriend."

What I want to know is where was Josie's phone during and after the attack? If KM (the 13 yr old) sent the messages - then she had the phone. Did she take it back to Josie after she sent the "fatal" message? If so, could Josie have just been scrolling through those messages and reading them for herself when Treacy caught up with her?

Treacy texted Josie's phone to possibly "hook-up" with KM
Josie then texted Treacy back that she didn't "approve" of the relationship
Then LE said that it went back and forth. Now what we don't know is did Josie meet up with KM and give HER the phone to talk with Treacy or not?

I want to hear more about where the phone had been. Until we know that we won't have any answers.

Prayers for Josie and her family.

Well, it makes sense that the doctors decided to keep Josie in a medically-induced coma. A fever, especially a high one, places a higher metabolic demand on the body. Comas, whether induced or not, place the patient in a physiological situation where the body's metabolic demands are less. So, with the fever already placing higher metabolic demands on the body it makes good medical sense not to reverse the medically induced coma at least until the fever is gone. Until she is no longer in a medically induced coma her level of consciousness can not be accurately assessed. And, even when the physicians reverse the medically-induced coma it is not likely that there will be a significant, sudden improvement. Rather, any improvement will most likely be gradual, and slow. Please God, bless Josie, and bless her family with the strength they need.

I am a little curious about where the phone was as well. The early news reports stated that not only did Josie and the thirteen year old friend but other students at the school had received text messages from Treacy threatening to come to the school and harm Josie. First of all I didn't think that cell phones were even allowed to be used during school hours.( I am not naive I know kids bring them to school, but at most schools they are forbidden to be used or the student faces the consequences) But, why on earth wouldn't a child that receives a text saying "I am coming to snap someone's neck" not relay that threat to an adult? Its just all so sad and I just pray for Josie and her family.

I know different schools have different cell policies. My sons old middle school forbid cells period. his new middle school you can use cells during designated periods such as before and after school and during lunch. I figured this was the case a Josie's school since it was after school. I wonder how long of a period of time the text messages were sent and received over? I am still not convinced it was not the 13 year old who send the offending text but that does not really matter I guess. praying hard for Josie to pull through and FULLY recover from this terrible violent incident.

I live in Alabama, a county school, texting and phones are prohibited and if they are used anytime between 8:05 and 3:05 the phone gets taken up for 30 days. Sounds fine to me. My son had his taken up when we first transferred here because I sent him a message during school hours! Consequences are great. Always enforced, no exceptions and that is the way it should be in my opinion.

There are a few folks I have spoken with that are wondering, like you, about who sent the offending messages and vice versa. I am wondering since this is Florida and they operate under the Sunshine Law if it is safe to assume we may eventually find out the content of the messages. Time will tell.

We moved last year from Alabama to south Carolina. the city school system we were in in Alabama was very strict on cell use. I think middle and high schoolers were only allowed to bring the cell phones to call parents during after school activities and the phones had to be left in the office during the school day. Our system here is pretty lax on cell use and I like it in a way because my son can get in touch with me at anytime but I really think cell phones have become more of a problem than they are worth. they have contributed to things such as cheating and bullying. I feel like without cell phones Josie might be ok today but it would have been some other mothers child because that guy was a ticking time bomb! I feel like during the trail if this goes to trial and they do not lead out we will probably get to see the messages.

Some new stories today, looks like all from the same Associated Press release.

Doctors tried to bring Josie Lou Ratley out of a medically induced coma over the weekend at Broward General Medical Center, but the 15-year-old quickly developed a fever, and doctors had to put her back on life support.

I too would like to know exactly who had the phone and at what times. If Josie gave the phone to KM and she sent some messages before giving it back to Josie, then there is a possibility that Josie never went back and read any of the messages. If this is what happened, then Josie might not have even know about the threat made against her. I haven't heard any students interviewed that said Josie KNEW that she was being threatened, but the 13 year old sure knew about it, so the question becomes "how did she know?". I would have to hear that Josie mentioned it to someone else before I would believe that she had knowledge of the threat.

Keeping Josie in my prayers.

Theory on that: KM had the phone while all these texts were being exchanged, she sent the "disparaging" one about his brother, he flies into a rage and sends a threatening text, she texts back that "it was Josie who sent that one," he texts that he's going to snap Josie's neck, KM deletes all the messages and leads her to him knowing she's in danger but Josie has no clue. JMO!

I don't think KM had time to give Josie back the phone - not at the time she pointed her out. KM didn't even walk over to Josie - just pointed - Treacy took it from there. No, IF KM sent any messages - she did it and then gave the phone back to Josie before Treacy got there.

Maybe Josie started with Treacy - KM walks up, takes the phone and has a "tit for tat" message game with Treacy, then hands Josie back the phone - Treacy then starts going after Josie, getting pretty nasty - KM tells Josie "something" about Treacy's brother and Josie took it from there.

I'm not real sure that Josie didn't send the message. IT DOESN'T MATTER! But, knowing that fact helps us "sleuth" out what went down and how.

KM knew Treacy was "enraged". He tried to attack the wrong girl - until KM told him that it wasn't Josie. KM knew - first hand - eye contact - in person - with Treacy to see the rage he was exhibiting! Whether KM had any involvement in the messaging, we don't know.

Regardless of who sent the "disparaging" message to Treacy - doesn't matter. He belongs behind bars - for a long, long time. If it hadn't been Josie - if things would have gone differently - you can bet, it would have been someone else. One of his buddies or the next person that "crossed him".

O/T - We have a trial that started here today. A 27 yr old middle school teacher starved her two cats to death. She abandoned her apartment with the cats inside. Moved into her new boyfriend's - went on vaca down to the Keys, etc. - while those two poor kitties starved to death. Anyway, she is facing 20 years! YEP! 20 years. I don't think she'll get 20 - IMO 5 would be about right and the loss of her teaching license. Now, hearing that - someone starves two cats to death and faces 20 years - Treacy stomps poor Josie's head in and faces attempted murder - he should get 20 years (more in my opinion) - it will be interesting to see how it plays out - dontcha think?

Prayers for Josie and her family.

Judge gags lawyers and BSO in Deerfield Beach beating case

Lawyers and the Broward Sheriff's Office have been barred, for now, from talking publicly about the case against Wayne Treacy, the Deerfield Beach High School student accused of trying to kill a girl over an insensitive text message.

Broward Circuit Judge Elijah Williams issued a temporary order stopping prosecutors, the Broward Sheriff's Office, defense lawyers and a civil attorney from releasing details about the allegations against Treacy, 15, who is in a juvenile detention center facing an attempted murder charge.

Treacy's lawyer, Assistant Public Defender Betsy Benson, is seeking a permanent gag order after seeing "repeated, chronic and in-depth national and local coverage" of the case, which has been featured on NBC's "Today" show and CNN's "Larry King Live."

A hearing on Benson's request is scheduled for April 6.

In her motion, Benson expressed concern that too much potential evidence in the case has been made public, threatening Treacy's right to a fair trial. She specifically mentioned text messages allegedly sent by Treacy before and after the assault as well as photographs of the victim, Josie Lou Ratley, 15, a Deerfield Beach Middle School student who has been in a medically induced coma for more than a week.

"Wayne Treacy's due process rights will be fundamentally compromised," Benson wrote in her motion. She said the released information would taint a jury pool and foster a "lynch mob type mentality in the community" against her client.

Well I say shut them down. Do not want anything standing in the way of justice for Josie.

JMO

Fine no one say a word about the sick little 🤬🤬🤬🤬; I would like to see that picture of Josie on the front page of the damn news paper every day and across the "desk" at the local news station during every news break and 9:00. 10:00 news Don't say the name of that 🤬🤬🤬 who did this, Keep the name of the victim on everyones lips.

Please make sure they keep saying it was done to "a girl over an insensitive text message." Make it sound like the victim here deserved what she got...

I am so sick and tired of the rights of these (&^&*^R(^% who do these horrendous acts and then hide behind their rights....

While the victims rights are left in a splotch on a side walk....

I'm outta here before I say things I will regret.

And it's a disgrace that they didn't. Moreso the 13 year old who had more knowledge of what Treacy was up to, and led him to Josie so he could attack her, watched him attack her, and did nothing to stop him.
