GUILTY FL - Wayne Treacy for savage beating of 15yo girl, Deerfield Beach, 17 March 2010

  • #281
Bumping, because I am still praying for Josie and I got very scared when I didn't see it on the front page. Do we have any news yet? How about a reminder of when Treacy goes back to court. I know the other young girl was being held for 21 days, right?

I too was checking in for news of Josie's progress.....

For those who are praying for Josie's recovery, please add these two names to your list:

Zeke Rucker, a young man from Rutgers, who was severely beaten on a spring break trip to Cancun. He has head injuries very similar to Josie's. He is in a hospital in Florida now, also, after being air lifted back to the USA.

Matt James' family.....Matt was on a spring break trip in Florida and fell from a hotel balcony and died from his head injuries. He was a Notre Dame football signee for next fall.

A Sun Sentinel "blogger" mom has a good blog about the way kids seem to see things black and white, as if whatever "insult" made about his brother was enough to justify this brutal beating...

I have not heard anything locally...good or bad....the last news about damage to the left side of her brain didn't sound good however :( :(

Here is good news on this Easter Sunday. May God continue to watch over Josie and her family!

School beating victim moves in bed
By Erika Pesantes, Sun Sentinel

7:55 p.m. EDT, April 4, 2010

FORT LAUDERDALE - Beating victim Josie Lou Ratley showed a sign of progress on Easter Sunday, her family's lawyer said.

The 15-year-old girl is starting to move "slightly" in her bed at Broward General Medical Center, Rick Freedman said in a news release. Also, doctors are trying to get Ratley to breathe on her own, though still with the aid of a ventilator.

Her mother, Hilda Gotay Ratley, was at her bedside with an Easter basket holding favorite things — a large stuffed bunny, art supplies, bling jewelry, a princess crown and chocolate.

Here's more from the local TV news:

she moved her left side - arm, leg and hand! Her eyes are open just a slit. Dr.s are weaning her off the "coma" drugs. While doing the segment - they just got word she moved her RIGHT hand - which is significant because its the left side of her brain they are worried about and that controls the right side of her body - so movement of her right hand is REALLY REALLY good news!

This is fantastic news. I know that she still has a long way to go but these signs of movement do offer hope that she will recover

Let's all keep Josie in our prayers for a full recovery.

A teen who was brutally beaten at school is starting to improve.

Fifteen-year-old Josie Ratley has begun to move around in her hospital bed.

Doctors caring for Ratley reduced her coma-inducing medication. The doctors are also monitoring the teen to see if she can breathe on her own.

Lawyer: Beaten Deerfield Beach Teen Improving

Josie Lou Ratley and her mother, Hilda Gotay Ratley, celebrated Easter today at Broward General Medical Center in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit inside the Chris Evert Children's Hospital. Ratley has been in a medically induced coma for 18 days.

New pictures of the Deerfield Beach teen who was beaten and is now in a medically induced coma were released Sunday night by her lawyer who said her condition is improving.

The pictures show 15-year-old Josie Lou Ratley attached to numerous tubes including a ventilator at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Broward General Medical Center.

The Ratley's lawyer Rick Freedman said doctors tried to reduce the coma inducing medication Sunday and Josie is starting to move around in her bed.

"The doctors are also trying to get Josie to begin breathing on her own but with the continued assistance of the ventilator," Freedman wrote in a statement to the press.

The pictures show Josie's mother over her daughter's hospital bed and next to her is a brightly colored Easter basket filled with acrylic paint, Slim Jims and a giant teddy bear.

Swag, do you know if she moved upon being asked to? Any signs of communication in her eyes?

I'm holding my breath to hear news that she's going to be ok mentally. :prayer:

Josie Lou Ratley's immediate medical expenses are covered by Medicaid, her family's lawyer said Monday, but the out-of-pocket cost of her long-term recovery remains in question.

The family of the brutally beaten teen has seen an outpouring of community support after last month's attack at Deerfield Beach Middle School, with restaurants and leaders putting together drives for the Josie Lou Ratley Fund. At least four events are scheduled for April, three of them during the next seven days.

The private trust was set up shortly after the attack to cover Ratley's long-term care, said Rick Freedman, the family's lawyer.
