FL - Woman Powerwashes child, Orlando

That is awful that had to hurt pretty bad. That woman needs that presure washer stuck where the sun dont shine. OMG that has me mad

Just holy freakin' unbelievable.

They use power washers to hose down prison inmates when they are rioting. Where did this woman learn her mothering skills? In the federal penitentiary?

This needs some intervention big time, because what else are they doing to that little girl? Lord help us all.

It was either Nancy Grace or one of her callers that brought up something I hadn't thought of-

This is a car wash. The water used in the washer might have chemicls in it used to clean the cars. And what was the temperature of that water?

And then there's this from the news article:

The Department of Children and Families said the child was taken to a medical facility for an evaluation. The child was examined by the Child's Protection Team nurse practitioner and found to have no visible injuries.DCF did not remove the child from the residence. The Orange County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse detectives are still investigating the criminal portion of this case to determine the proper course of action.

Excuse me? Isn't the proper course of action to file charges?

Since DCF did not remove the child, the chances of criminal charges being filed are slim to none. It is really hard to prove an abuse case, when DCF does not find evidence of abuse....been there, done that!!

However, I really believe that in this case, the best option would not be to put the child in foster care and arrest the mother. This mother obviously needs intervention, anger management, and parenting classes. Hopefully, DCF will stay involved and put her on a 12 month case plan.

But there is evidence of abuse -- it's on video for the entire world to see!

Aren't they even going to get some parenting classes for this woman? It said in the news report that she sometimes used a spray bottle to "calm" the child. It's a kid, not a dog. This woman needs to learn that there are other ways to deal with an upset child.

Are you kidding me, I was thinking of this little girl all night and came to check this out this morning. They are not going to take her away. Even if there were no marks there was the evidence right there and them screaming at her. This is abuse plain and simple.

Well as the officer in the video pointed out, the child abuse division has seen alot worse. Now can we see the overall effects all this reality tv, cops shows, etc... is impacting our abilities to use our common sense and process matters clearly and justly? Absolute proof right here, the deteriation in societies minds, when we can actually watch a live video of an actual abuse in progress, it is now being downplayed, and rated to the severity. This is when kids ought to be allowed to sue, but how does a two year old know, they don't. Their totally dependant on another for their care and guidance.

Reality tv is not allowed in my home. As my husband has said before reality even hit our networks, we will be watching people murdered on tv for entertainment purposes, so people get ready, it ain't far around the corner. Another example: The video of the arresting cop who beat the blood out of Angela at the police station video room set aside for breathalyzer testing that she had over and over refused to take. Many have bent and compromised their views as to what actually happened and her deserving of such treatment. They need more proof. Bull!

I get it now. You can't spank your child, but you can take them to the local carwash and powerwash them.

next time you are upset stand there and let who ever upset you come throw water in your face. dont worry it will calm you down... spraying water in the face of a small child will stop the crying momentarily. when their face is wet it triggers the instinct to hold their breath. that is how they can have new born swimming classes. it is a instinctual fear of drowning we are all born with.

i say bravo to this mom for finding her child's fears and using them to control her. why should mom have self control when the 2 year old didn't! the baby gets frustrated and throws a tantrum so mom does the same thing. why are we beating up on mom when the kid started it. you people act like mom should be teaching the child right from wrong and self control and other silly things. i am big enough to hurt you so do what i want is a much more valuable lesson in life and if those that love us don't hurt us enough for us to learn that we will have to learn it on the streets. is that what we really want? for small children to feel safe with loving mothers and be unprepared for the harsh world outside? ....... /sarcasm off.

I don't see this is abuse, but rather poor judgment or lack of knowledge on how to discipline a child. Just because they didn't remove her, does not mean that they won't do an intervention. Interventions always include anger management and parenting classes.

It is so easy to say a child should be removed, and I agree that they should be if there is ongoing abuse or other problems. If they removed her, that child would wind up in a shelter or foster care...no place for a two year old, especially if they can do an intervention without removal.

Believe me I do hate foster care. My mom is a foster parent and adopted a girl who is now 12 but she got when she was 5. I hate the whole foster system but I do believe this was abuse. They sprayed her in the face, she was crying, scared. It is mental abuse. Like the man holding a gut to his kids heads and putting them on plastic to make them think he is going to kill them. This 2 year old had no idea what was going on, she was scared beyond belief and I am sure thinking her life was in danger. That is abuse in my book. This mother thought up an intentionally cruel way to punish a baby, JMO. There is a thing called time out or even a swat on the behind not hard mind you but this was cruel and unusual.

We own a car wash and my husband said that should the mother have accidently used the wrong setting, the water would have been strong enough to take off some skin.

He said that using the car wash nozzle like that is like using a gun you "think" is not loaded. You don't point it at a baby and pull the trigger.

I do agree that this was cruel punishment, but I also think this mother can be helped with parenting and anger management classes. In the Florida foster care system a two year old would spend a few weeks at a shelter, which is no place for a child that age. If they found her a foster home, she would be moved quiet frequently, as that usually happens with younger children. I tend to think that being moved from home to home is more mentally damaging than spraying a child with water. This child is young, the mother has a chance to turn this around a be a good parent. I would much rather see that than a child so young being shuffled from foster home to foster home.

I can see the lightbulbs going on in dimwits' heads everywhere now!

Next time you go to a carwash, don't be surprised if you gotta wait in line!

Did DFS check the house for a waterboard?

This sets a great example for other mothers out there, doesn't it?! As long as you don't use your hand, a paddle, but instead use water no matter how hot or how powerful...it is OK. LE and DHS (DFS) should be rethinking their treatment of this case. The next time it happens, the child may not be so lucky. The water could scald them, break the capillaries in their faces, or worse...literally put out an eye.

I just don't want to think about what that little girl has already been through in her own home. I'm sorry, but I don't think going to a class is going to fix this lady's problem. Hopefully there are other family members that don't abuse children like this, that can take care of the little girl. This just breaks my heart.

Her excuse was trying to "calm" this child? I guess she was going for the shock value to possibly thwart a temper tantrum, but what I see is no more than I use to train dogs (a spritz in their direction works wonders). There are other ways to handle children. I have never used a water bottle or a power washer to correct behaviors. Lordy, what is this woman going to use when her child is a teenager if her words have no meaning now?!

I'm with you on this Cheetah. What this mother did was wrong and inapproriate but they said the child was physically fine and there was no history of abuse that they knew of. Also, afterwards, the two woman changed the girl into dry clothes which to me indicates a level of caring and concern.

I am not saying that what this Mother did was right or acceptable. It's certainly not. But she does sound like a good candidate for anger managment/parenting counseling. I would not agree with taking this child from her parent(s) based on this one incident. I am sure they will keep this woman on their radar.

First off we had a toddler come to the hospital where I work with his eye hanging out because he accidently sprayed himself in the face with a pressure washer. SO I think child endangerment charges would be just fine in this case. Secondly I think they changed her so she would not get their car wet, not because they cared about her because parents who care about their children don't torture them and make them cry. And we all know CPS rarely keeps a good eye on anyone.
