Flight to London Gatwick crashes at airport in India .June 12 th 2025

Some people may wonder about the "black box/boxes" who , what & where it is examined. I learned the following info about US manufactured planes involved in international accidents. (I was researching how the investigators worked the investigation into LAPA 3142. Fascinating. and tragic.) From AI generated info:
When a plane manufactured in the United States crashes, investigators from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are indeed frequently involved in the process, especially when it comes to the "black box" (flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder). The NTSB is the primary agency responsible for investigating civil aviation accidents in the US, and they are often invited to participate in investigations of US-built aircraft accidents that occur internationally. While the country where the crash occurs leads the investigation, the NTSB's expertise is highly valued, and they may be involved in analyzing the black box data, regardless of the accident's location.

PS... This info is known to the pros...but a lot of us are not in that industry.
(JMO ) The NTSB is involved in this case because the aircraft and the engines are US-made. Their Indian counterpart AAIB is in charge of the investigation. They can ask for outside help with decoding the recorders, or they can do it themselves.

A day after Air India’s flight AI 171 crashed into the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad, college authorities received a chilling email.

"We crashed the Air India plane yesterday. You thought it was a hoax. Now you know we’re serious." The message went on to warn of more attacks.

The mail was eventually traced to Rene Joshilda.

The woman in question previously sent false bomb threats all over India, impersonating her male coworker that she retaliated against for rejecting her advances. Being tech-savvy she avoided detection until she was caught in the Air India crash related hoax.

Wow, she made 21 hoax bomb threats in two years. In an equally crazy move "she harassed women colleague who interacted with him (the guy she was obsessed with) and even made a fake marriage certificate and circulated it to all her office colleagues."

Multiple complaints by a whistleblower are listed (from 2022):

The pilot began writing to his higher ups about crucial issues within the organisation – ranging from a lackadaisical approach towards training protocols to a relaxed adherence to safety norms...
...
He alleged that some pilots were cheating during their training, and that because of an AI training module, the courses for co-pilots to become captains were extremely basic.
...
...“there have been a number of instances of “Fume Events” or cabin air contamination in the Airbus fleet. Many cases have not been reported as pilots themselves are not aware of the seriousness of the issue and even when pilots/cabin crew report it, the engineers too brush it away,
...
“The crew could not configure the aircraft and inspite of a GPWS warning elected to go ahead and land, whereas it is required to execute a Go-Around (sic),”

In March this year, Air India terminated the services of a trainer pilot following a whistleblower complaint regarding lapses during simulator training and grounded 10 of his under trainees.

I would like to point out, that I pointed out when mentioning his feet, that I believe him but was confused by his footwear situation, given the circumstances. Please don't put me in the box of skepticism. Thank you. JMO MOO
Understood. I was mostly talking about posts on another website, but not sure if I can name it here. One of those websites where you have to wade through a ton of muck to find some gold nuggets of truth, and every now and then you can stumble across a diamond. Which almost makes all the wading worth it, except now my feet are all gross and extra smelly and I'm tracking it all over my RED carpet, Dang IT.

She will probably be charged with crime, even terrorism, but trust me, it is a 100% mental case. Good that they know about her, though, because she needs to be stopped. I can bet that this is not her first bout of sending pen-poison letters about a man.

"Air India Boeing 787 Crash:

What Exactly Is Ram Air Turbine?

1750843841088.webp

The small wind turbine,
known as the 'Ram Air Turbine', or RAT for short,
is connected to the hydraulic pump,
or even an electric generator,
which acts as an alternative power source.

This RAT can generate power through the airstream,
dependent on the speed of the aircraft.

It is deployed during an emergency
and is used to power vital flight systems and controls, linked hydraulics,
and other critical flight instrumentation.

Modern aircraft generate power through their main engines during a flight,
but when this power is interrupted for any reason,
the RAT can be used to provide backup power.

It generates its energy from the airstream,
respective of the speed of the aircraft;
if the plane is flying slowly,
less energy would be generated.

In normal conditions,
the RAT has no role to play
and is only deployed during a loss of power."

There are some excellent Professional Pilot Forums to gain accurate information.

This is not quite accurate, as far as the speed of the aircraft. The RAT features a variable vain propeller which targets a specific RPM range, irrespective of the speed of the aircraft.

This is essential for providing consistent hydraulic pressure for the flight controls and optimum voltages for electrical components such as flight instruments.

"Mary Schiavo,
a former Inspector General of the US Department of Transportation
has posited a new theory on the cause of the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171.

'I believe this crash was a computer problem.

There are several 787 components that rely on computer code to tell the plane whether it is in the air or on the ground.

If the computer or code malfunctions,
the engines spool back and the thrust is reduced, even if in flight',

said Schiavo,
who has represented victims of several air disasters in the US.

'This happened on an ANA
(Japan
's Air Nippon Airways)
787 flight in 2019,
which suffered a dual engine failure on landing,
and I'm afraid it could have occurred on the fatal Air India Flight 171',

Mary Schiavo suggested."

The ANA 2019 incident was different. It occurred upon landing.

No problem has been found with the engines but a service bulletin from Boeing has warned that activating the thrust reversers too soon after touchdown can activate the Thrust Control Malfunction Accommodation system which guards against inadvertent asymmetrical high thrust situations.

Thrust Control Malfunction Accommodation (TCMA) is a critical aircraft safety system that automatically adjusts engine thrust in response to malfunctions or anomalies.

Air India has issued a statement after a video showing the top officials of one of the airline's joint ventures partying went viral just days after the deadly plane crash that killed 270.

Air India SATS (AISATS), which is owned by Air India Ltd and Singapore-based SATS Ltd, is a provider of airport ground handling and cargo handling services in India.

The joint venture was responsible for preparing the load sheet for the Ahmedabad–London Gatwick leg of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that went down on June 12.
Footage reportedly shows AISATS' Chief Operating Officer Abraham Zachariah dancing with other members of staff while music blares in the background, which was said to be taken during a party at the firm's Gurugam office on June 20.

The video, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked outrage as it came at a time when families of victims were waiting to receive the remains of their loved ones.

'How could they? Even if it was planned earlier. It could [have] been postponed', on X account wrote.

Another said: 'Pathetic and highly insensitive', while a third said: 'You should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you clowns are grounded.'

In a statement to Indian news agency IANS, the company said: 'AISATS is aware of a video being circulated on social media that unfortunately is completely out of context.

Very inappropriate :(

Lack of Emotional Intelligence
(empathy, understanding the emotions of those around).

Not a good Image IMO

Too bad!

JMO

To add...

Usually, in case of such horrific tragedies
national mourning is declared
and entertainment events are cancelled.
To show respect.
It happens in my country.

There have been various other idiosyncrasies reported on the 787

Boeing discovered that if the 787 remained powered on continuously 248 days, certain integer overflow errors could occur in the aircraft’s systems — especially those that count uptime in milliseconds or seconds. These overflows could lead to:
  • Data corruption
  • Instrument malfunctions
  • Autopilot or flight control anomalies

As a result, Airlines are required to fully shut down and restart the 787 Dreamliner models before reaching that uptime limit.
Planes have a lot of running systems and take a long time to shut down and restart. They aren't typically powered off unless they're stowed away for storage. Not even during maintenance.

The 2015 directive requiring power deactivation has been superseded in 2018 with software update:

We are superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2015-09-07, which applied to all The Boeing Company Model 787 airplanes. AD 2015-09-07 required a repetitive maintenance task for electrical power deactivation. This AD requires installing new software for the generator control unit (GCU). This AD also removes certain airplanes from the applicability. This AD was prompted by the determination that a Model 787 airplane that has been powered continuously for 248 days can lose all alternating current (AC) electrical power due to the GCUs simultaneously going into failsafe mode. We are issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

AD in question:

So basically, switch it off and back on again.

"Ahmedabad Air India plane crash:

Why us?

The emotional aftermath of the air crash.

Psychiatrists in Ahmedabad help families navigate grief stages after the AI-171 crash, offering support amid chaos and despair.

1750963642019.webp

The devastating air crash had shaken the city
— and the people’s lives — to the core.

For many,
it marked the beginning of an emotional journey more harrowing than they could have imagined.

Amid the chaos,
the Department of Psychiatry at B.J. Medical College in Ahmedabad
swung into immediate action.

A team of psychiatrists
— five senior residents and five consultants —
were deployed around the clock across the hospital’s Kasauti Bhavan,
the postmortem building, and the Civil Superintendent’s Office.

Their mission:
to support the surviving families through the mental trauma of a tragedy.

'The accident was unimaginable.
Even bystanders were disturbed.
Then what must be the condition of someone who lost their loved one?',
said Dr. Minakshi Parikh,
Dean and Head of Psychiatry at BJMC."

" 'Bloody terrified':

Flying anxiety peaks in India after fatal Air India crash.

  • Surge in enquiries to India's only centre for treating fear of flying
  • Crash visuals, non-stop TV coverage spiking anxiety, experts say
  • Travel agents say ticket bookings have dropped since crash
  • Some anxious fliers filtering out Boeing options
'Fear of flying is typically to do with things happening on an aeroplane - the sounds, motion, vibrations ...
exposure therapy is the only solution',
Dinesh, 55, told Reuters during a tour of the facility
where he demonstrated how cockpit controls relate to movements that often worry passengers.

WhatsApp messages Dinesh received, and shared with Reuters, showed
individuals complaining about
'losing confidence' after the crash
while others said it was
'too hard on the brain'.

Some travellers are becoming more choosy in selecting their airline and aircraft
- Boeing or Airbus -
while others are so anxious
they are taking more drastic steps by rescheduling or cancelling their air travel plans altogether.

The disturbing footage was a key cause of the panic among Indian travellers,
five mental health experts said.

People were seeking help because they had developed insomnia
or become obsessed with flight updates,
they said.

Others were scared of letting their loved ones travel on planes,
complaining of 'debilitating anxiety'
for their relatives in transit
'to an extent where they have been unable to focus on their daily chores'
because they are constantly checking messages to see if they have landed,
said psychologist Pankti Gohel."
