We are definitely not doing very well.....

As Florida sets records for Covid-19 cases, health authorities often fail to do contact tracing

CNN spoke with 27 Floridians, or their family members, who'd tested positive for Covid-19. Of those, only five said they had received a call from health authorities asking for their contacts.

There are concerns about contact tracing nationally, not just in Florida. In an interview in June, CNN asked Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, how he thought contact tracing was going in the United States.

"I don't think we're doing very well," he answered.

My friends went camping here this weekend, every single car they saw was from out of state. Quite a few from Florida.

This doesn't bode well for Montana.

They never should have opened them in the first place but they didn't ask my opinion.....

Florida's largest county closes restaurants as virus spikes
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida's largest county is again severely limiting its restaurants and fully closing gyms and other indoor venues weeks after they reopened because a spike in coronavirus cases is creating a shortage of intensive care unit beds at its hospitals.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Monday that starting Wednesday, restaurants will be limited to takeout and delivery service and gyms, banquet halls and short-term vacation rentals like those available on Airbnb will be closed. Bars are already closed statewide and restaurants were limited to 50% capacity indoors.

Miami-Dade County now has more than 1,600 hospitalized coronavirus patients, double what it had two weeks ago. Of those, 331 are in intensive care and 168 are on ventilators, figures that have also doubled.

Been catching up was off GRID somewhat past month.
A isolated vacation and just pure beautiful nature. Time to reflect Time to appreciate and a time to be thankful.

Now it's time to stand up and get the less fortunate the help they need.

Glad to see no hurricanes knock,on rock.....
Sad to see the Covid spread has reached far and wide.

Thank you to all who continues to post in this thread.

Now if only that Sahara dust can eliminate COVID-19 spread here in FL we'd be all set. LOL.

Fl. total cases now at 206,778
21,000 new cases just over the weekend
Orange Co. (Orlando) now has 14,407 cases
are you watching this Disney World????
3778 deaths in state, so far (fudged numbers)

Gov. DeSantis is at the Villages today for PC

Numbers of new cases are usually lower on Mon. and Tues. as many labs don't report on weekends.

Florida reports more than 6,300 new COVID-19 cases, 47 deaths including 13 in Central Florida
Florida coronavirus: Governor says outbreak has ‘stabilized’

DeSantis said he doesn’t believe the situation in Florida is as dire as it was in New York at the height of the pandemic.

[URL='https://www.wesh.com/article/florida-coronavirus-cases-monday/33216549']State data shows
the rate of people testing positive in Florida is climbing and is now close to 15%. In mid-May, the positivity rate was about 2%.

“We want to get back to that for sure. I think we’ve stabilized at where we’re at,” DeSantis said.

We are stabilized? I don’t feel like it is with the numbers being reported - I’ve noticed the emphasis is on testing results and not death rates

My good friend, perfectly healthy 46 year old woman, was diagnosed with shingles in her ear earlier this week. Completely out of the blue and goes to prove how quickly one can become immune comprised. Fortunately, it isn’t contagious. She’s good about wearing her mask too.

I had already made her 2 masks that she’s been alternating. As soon as she told me what the doctor said, I put together 3 more masks for her. Now she can go back to work with a mask for each day. She’s from Chicago so Cubs & Bears for her!

(I’m also putting together some other prints.)

I believe shingles is contagious at a certain point in the infection.

A person with active shingles can spread the virus when the rash is in the blister-phase. You are not infectious before the blisters appear. Once the rash crusts, you are no longer infectious

Thanks for the info! Fortunately, I had seen her on a Sat 6/27 and were definitely 6’ apart. Thursday, 7/2 she went to the doctor and there were blisters inside her ear. That night, she started the steroids and antibiotic. Sunday, 7/5 is when she stopped by to pick up the new masks.

I take an antiviral med twice daily since my transplant in 2017. Acyclovir 800mg to prevent shingles. I was telling her this and asking her about getting the shingles shots. She said the doctor at the walk in clinic said it is only for those 50 and older. That doctor told her to follow up with her primary doctor to see if they’ll approve her to get it at age 46.

I know it has to be kept frozen until use and not all pharmacies will have it readily available. I can’t imagine them not allowing her to have it once she’s recovered of course, especially now.

Interesting. When the nurse at the doctor's office offered me a Shingles vaccine, I am thinking, "that is for "old" people.". Oh, that would be ME!

Maybe they should offer the vaccine to younger people as well.

Hope that your friend is okay. And maybe you should get the vaccine too.

I thought I had the shingles shots before my transplant but I can’t remember. It was a mind boggling time. After my transplant, I had the whole series of newborn shots all over again. I can’t have any live vaccines anymore. I’m going to ask about this at my next appt. to be sure.

He won't do it before the big convention IMO. Floridians need to self regulate - wear a mask, social distance. stay home when possible.

Insanity. Is the goal to completely kill off every one in attendance?!

Just think how they can take it back to where they are from and spread it - superspreaders will be born IMO. I'm grocery shopping now and stocking up - if we get hit with a hurricane - so be it. I don't want to be out and about at the end of August.

All these people will be getting DAILY covid tests...but there are still citizens in our state that are having trouble getting tested? Who is paying for this?

Every person attending Trump's GOP convention in Jacksonville to get daily coronavirus test | Daily Mail Online
I want to know why they get to use the 15 min rapid result test but that’s not used in the public arena here. The testing site appts are gone very quickly. The labs are so backed up, people have to wait for days for their results. That means they can’t return to work.

Tip of the iceberg... I hope they have a plan to create additional space.

As coronavirus cases rise in Florida, 43 ICUs reach capacity

Intensive care units in 43 Florida hospitals have reached capacity as the state grapples with a sharp rise in coronavirus cases, according to data released Tuesday by the state's Agency for Health Administration.

The hospitals are spread throughout 21 counties, which include Miami-Dade, Orange, Broward and Hillsborough. Another 32 hospitals have seen capacity in their ICUs dwindle to 10 percent.

Florida reported another 7,347 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, bringing the state's total to nearly 214,000 infections. Sixty-three additional deaths were also reported, for a total of 3,841.

No surprise here...of course Desantis obliged.... he always does. o_O

Glad I no longer have school age children and have to make this decision.

President Donald Trump has been clear about where he stands in the debate over whether schools should resume in-person learning amid the global pandemic, tweeting Monday in all-caps that “SCHOOLS MUST OPEN IN THE FALL!!!”
.......
At the roundtable discussion, he bluntly said he would be “putting a lot of pressure” on governors to open schools, applauding Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis for saying his state would do so.

And I expect there will be retaliation against colleges that don’t do in person classes too
IMO
