Florida - Coronavirus Covid-19 #2

“Walt Disney World is set to reopen Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios Wednesday, following the reopening of two of its other theme parks over the weekend. Across the globe, Hong Kong Disneyland will close its gates again Wednesday after 52 new coronavirus cases were detected in China. Disney says Hong Kong’s park closure will not impact other theme park operations.”

“Disney outlined its extensive COVID-19 safety protocols, which include limited capacity, physical distancing, temperature checks, face masks, hand-washing and hand-sanitizing (at more than 4,000 newly installed stations), plexiglass partitions and increased cleaning and disinfecting at the park.

About every 10 minutes there is a parkwide Health and Safety announcement. Reminding guests to distance, wear their mask and more. #DisneyWorld#MagicKingdom pic.twitter.com/PPxBgTXWHf

While the tactics are commendable, Yahoo Life medical contributor Dr. Dara Kass says they’re not enough to justify reopening. “Disney is doing everything it can to keep people safe in so far as mandating mask-wearing, hands-sanitizing, mobile-ordering and partitions. These are all smart solutions for local businesses,” says Kass. “But this is not a local business and so they're providing an attractive nuisance for people to come to a highly infective state.””

As out-of-state visitors flock to Disney World, experts worry it will cause coronavirus to 'spread like a cancer'

Made me ............ at the bolded part of your post. The word "attractive nuisance" is a lawsuit term in my opinion. It's a legal term being telegraphed, rightfully so.

Dr. Mike would agree that this is a place where bad things happen in that folks come far away to visit and take back to their communities. They, at WHO have said since February that sites which gather folks outside of the community to spread back afterwards are the most problematic (think of the 2020 Olympics that were cancelled, and many others that brought masses together that then left without tracing)

ETA: Then again, which states are doing tracing? Pfffft I STILL am waiting for MSM to do major dives into tracing/lack of. Grrrr.

good post, M25

Something out of towners may not realize;
Disney World workers, all 10,000 of them, come from a 5 county area. Orange County
provides the most and currently has almost 20,000 active cases, add in Lake Co., Osceola,
Seminole and Polk and you have almost 40,000 active Covid cases. The likelihood of
some members of these 40,000 households
working at Disney World is huge.
Workplace spreading is an ongoing problem.
My 26 yr. old grandnephew was an early case
in March, he caught from a fellow worker in a restaurant.
When I see the new videos of DisneyWorld this week w/ young families and 3 or 4 small kids
trotting all over the park, I'm astounded that parents would take these chances, but they're
ignorant of how bad things are here in Central Florida.
They're even reporting which Publix Supermarkets have employee cases. So we can avoid those stores.
It's way worse than what's being reported here
and we can no longer trust the numbers.

To add to all of this we have the RNC that is scheduled next month. Originally scheduled to be held in N.C., it was moved here... yep, moved to our ‘hot spot’ state... another great decision from Desantis.

Well of course our numbers are bogus..... nothing has changed.

FOX 35 INVESTIGATES: Florida Department of Health says some labs have not reported negative COVID-19 results

ORLANDO, Fla. - After FOX 35 News noticed errors in the state's report on positivity rates, the Florida Department of Health said that some laboratories have not been reporting negative test result data to the state.

Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates. FOX 35 News found that testing sites like one local Centra Care reported that 83 people were tested and all tested positive. Then, NCF Diagnostics in Alachua reported 88 percent of tests were positive.

How could that be? FOX 35 News investigated these astronomical numbers, contacting every local location mentioned in the report.

The report showed that Orlando Health had a 98 percent positivity rate. However, when FOX 35 News contacted the hospital, they confirmed errors in the report. Orlando Health's positivity rate is only 9.4 percent, not 98 percent as in the report.

Wow. Why would they try to make FL look so bad?

I hear that train acomin....

I texted my good friend who may need a heart transplant. I read where the hospitals in her county are full. She had a stress test today and is waiting for her results. I’m really worried for her.

Florida hospitals face ICU bed shortage as state passes 300,000 COVID-19 cases

Snips:
Florida was running out of ICU beds at numerous hospitals Wednesday as COVID-19 cases continued to pile up by the tens of thousands and the Trump administration appeared powerless to stop it.

Florida, where the Republican convention is scheduled to be held next month, passed a dismal benchmark Wednesday with more than 300,000 cases of COVID-19 reported since the start of the pandemic.

My goodness what a disaster if we get a hurricane in all of this and no one leading our state.

As COVID-19 cases surge during hurricane season, field hospitals not an option in Florida

As Florida hospitals face a surge in patients with COVID-19, they may not be able to rely on field hospitals to provide more space. And hurricanes are the reason.
......
“Over the past several months, the state has worked continuously with local officials to monitor the need for resources to support area hospitals. At this time, mobile field hospitals consisting of tents may not be the best resource to deploy during hurricane season,” Mahon said. “Instead, our primary support strategy is to surge staff into existing facilities --- opening up additional capacity in those hospitals.??”
......
Frustrated, the South Florida hospital executive said, “I think the answer to the question is the state does not have a plan at this point for opening up alternate care centers.”

Memo: RNC to limit public attendance for first three days in Jacksonville

A memo released Thursday by the 2020 Jacksonville Host Committee says the first three days of the Republican National Convention in Jacksonville will be limited to regular delegates only.

The memo says that on the final day, when President Donald Trump accepts the Republican nomination, a delegate, their guest and alternate delegates will be allowed to attend.

What will it take for people to understand this is not "fake news" or a hoax?
a loved one or themselves to get it - IMO. Also, I'm now reading that the after affects linger and people still don't feel great after months.

Coronavirus in Florida: Recent surge in COVID-19 cases has South Florida hospitals struggling to keep up

“The Jackson Health System has seen a 226 percent increase in coronavirus hospitalizations from June 14 to July 14th.

If you ask Carlos Migoya, who runs Jackson Health, he thinks there is a behavioral issue in the community.

"I think the issue is we have a lot of aggressive non-compliant people," Migoya said. "People that do not believe masking is the right thing to do."

Migoya and his staff are paying the price for non compliance.

“One of the issues we have today is the lack of credibility,” he said. “People don’t believe the message we are telling them, and I don’t understand it, but that is exactly what is happening.””

[...]

Right now, our ICU capacity is 180 percent," said Leah Carpenter, CEO of Memorial West. "We are worried about the future.“

BBM. The non-compliance is due to a lack of leadership on wearing masks, social distancing, and other measures. Until we have unified political leadership and consensus, and depoliticize the issue, we will not have compliance. There are too many voices emphasizing “personal choice” without regard to the effects on the entire population.

I was pleased to read that the governors of Texas and Arkansas mandated masks in public. Our governor here in Florida will not mandate masks, which is a substantial public health measure.

Early this week, I was quite upset when a grocery delivery person from Shipt came right up to my door without any mask, and didn’t follow the instructions to leave my order outside my front porch. She rang the bell and seemed prepared to come inside... It was unexpected and I’d opened the door a crack to see who was there. It is situations like this that can make all of my efforts worthless.. She was maybe 21 or so, probably one of the many who pay no attention to the virus.
