I have asked this in numerous forums and never gotten an answer yet. How could COVID19 have been in the US so long (I’m seeing claims of November on), being highly contagious, yet not spread to hardly anyone until March when it suddenly exploded and people are dying left and right? My brother’s girlfriend is convinced she and her daughter had it in January. They tested positive for strep at that time and responded well to antibiotics, but since they had coughs that lasted a while, she thinks they had strep and COVID19. I’m not going to argue with her about it but I want to understand how we’re supposed to believe this yet not believe the literal statistics that have a body count to back them up!

Plenty here believe they have had it, from late November thru present. Not reported why?

No insurance = no doctor visit
Have to work = no doctor visit
Mild to moderate severity = no ER
people who went to the doctor were told to go home and ”sleep it off” . Tested for flu A and B and strep = all negative

Florida county offers drive-thru weddings due to coronavirus

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A county clerk's office in north Florida is giving a second chance to couples whose wedding plans were cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Alachua County Clerk of Court office will host drive-thru wedding ceremonies outside the courthouse on the evening of April 30.

The ceremonies are set to begin at 5 p.m. and anyone interested in participating is being asked to call for an appointment, the Gainesville Sun reported. The couples should arrive at the location about 15 minutes before their scheduled ceremony.

The ceremony costs $30, and is payable by cash or credit card.

A task force convened by the governor is expected to make recommendations this week on when and how to begin relaxing some social restrictions and reopening the state.

There is no easy answer on when Florida will emerge from the pandemic or what will happen when it does.

Can I say that number just doesn't make the "math" to me? But, of course, there would never be any type of manipulation of the numbers would ever happen by anyone. I would never insinuate any type of agenda.

With models all over the place, I am going to guess that he will use the one most advantageous to start reopening on May 1... hope I am wrong as I think we still need more time.

We can all make our own decisions on how we move forward though.

My rear end will be right where it’s been for the past 3 years, home. All my friends are of the same opinion. None of them plan to rush right out and do stuff. They all call and text me and tell me to stay home. Most offices here have already notified their staff that they’ll work from home until June.

The numbers won’t be accurate for years JMO. No one in FL’s tourism industry wants the public to know the truth. Tourists are in denial too.

Florida among slowest states to process unemployment claims

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- As unemployment surged during the early weeks of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., Florida ranked at or near the bottom of all states in its speed of processing those claims, federal data shows.

The state is already among the most inhospitable places to be unemployed, and the economic downturn has only added to the misery. Now Florida finds itself frantically trying to catch up as it lags behind other large states and neighbors in the South.

According to an Associated Press analysis of U.S. Department of Labor data, nearly 7 of every 8 Floridians who managed to file claims during the three weeks from mid-March until early April were waiting to have them processed — the worst rate in the country.

"Why is Florida in particular having such a difficult time now processing so many claims? It’s because it never intended to process so many,” said Susan Houseman, the director of research for the Michigan-based Upjohn Institute for Employment Research. “In fact, it was scaling back in recent years. So Florida is even less prepared to handle the onslaught than other states.”

Since March 15, just days before Gov. Ron DeSantis curtailed service at restaurants and bars, about 650,000 Floridians have filed initial claims with the state’s Department of Economic Opportunity, which administers jobless benefits. Many thousands more appear to have been unable to submit applications.

An online dashboard the department unveiled Monday underscored how far behind Florida is. It showed that the state has paid barely 6% of claimants and processed claims from fewer than a quarter of those applying for benefits since March 15.

No. I was sick supposedly with pneumonia in Texas - lasted over a month, and first antibiotic did not work. My brother lives in NV. He was, at first, in denial. Not now.

Just my opinion, but my health club membership is nope. Not going swimming, not going into locker rooms, not taking showers after unknown person, not using machines. Rather walk/run outside.

I agree. I can easily ride my bike. I think that keeping my yoga studio classes is okay, the studio is huge, and everyone has their own mats.

Florida now has 28,576 coronavirus cases and 927 fatalities. The 60 new deaths reported Wednesday is second to April 14, which was the deadliest day so far with 72 victims.

Early April saw the most new positive test results with roughly 1,200 per day, but the amount of new cases reported varies widely day to day, according to a South Florida Sun Sentinel analysis. On Wednesday, there were more than 700 new positive tests.

Florida continues to expand testing, having given more than 292,000 — third in the nation, but less than 2 percent of Florida’s population.

In Hernando county they are delivering and doing pickup. Could it be employees that use their own cars to deliver? I would call them to see if they are open, I find it hard to believe, but who knows.

Florida coronavirus update for Thursday: 666 new cases, 31 new deaths

Nationwide, with over 432,000 cases, the U.S. death toll is approaching 15,000. Worldwide, there are over 1.5 million cases and just under 90,000 fatalities, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronavirus Resource Center.

Florida’s death toll passed 350 — including two new deaths in Volusia County — at what could be the beginning of a surge that may not relent until summer. The state now has 16,364 cases and 354 deaths — an increase of 31 deaths since Tuesday night and 666 more cases.

Central Florida now has 2,114 cases. Orange County leads the region with 857 cases, followed by Osceola’s 295, Seminole’s 228, Polk’s 212, Volusia’s 179, Lake’s 139, Brevard’s 106 and Sumter’s 98.

Central Florida’s death toll stands at 38 as of Thursday morning. The region’s two newest deaths, both in Volusia County, involved a 79-year-old man who had traveled to Aruba and Curacao, and an 84-year-old man whose case was not travel related. (See details on all Central Florida cases here).

The testing site at the Orange County Convention Center was set to have 350 tests available Thursday. The site recently expanded its testing methods to include throat swabbing tests provided by the state. Also Thursday, AdventHealth announced it will offer drive-through testing sites that won’t require a doctor’s prescription, the first to open Friday at Daytona International Speedway.
Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said Disney and Orlando’s other theme parks closing March 16 was a “pivotal moment” for slowing the virus not only in Central Florida and the U.S. but worldwide.

“They put the people over profits, and if that had happened all across America, perhaps America wouldn’t be in the position it’s in today” he said.

Does Advent still have drive up testing without doc prescription? Or does ANYWHERE now?

Or was that just a one off state/government sponsered surveillance attempt as was done ? at the Villages?

Was just wondering if and where drive up testing without a script is being done at this time.
