2 nursing home administrators had their licenses yanked. For "hellish conditions, COVID19 cases".

And so it starts...and interesting that one home is in Tallahassee.
Thanks for posting this. Very sad.

also from the article...

On Saturday, DeSantis relented somewhat and published a list of nursing homes with positive tests, although the list doesn’t indicate how many residents or staffers had tested positive and whether anyone had died.

The news organizations plan to proceed with the litigation, noting that other states with less robust public records laws, including Illinois and California, have been more forthcoming.

JMO but they don't want to scare away the snowbirds. If they let on how bad it really is, how underfunded care homes are in general, no one will visit.
I agree with this, but I also think there is more to this.

We are a huge tourism state. Many people are employed in tourism here and big revenues come from it. Having those numbers from nursing homes and ALFs would drastically increase the overall numbers for the state...and the country.

ETA: same goes for the lack of increased testing.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. When there’s a public outcry of the poor conditions, lack of funding, multiple deaths and horrid management, only then will things change. Nursing home care has notoriously been underfunded. The real definition of poverty is going to hit people slap in the face. Hopefully, it will no longer be a “political thing” to debate. People are poor. Businesses are poor. Life is lived precariously. It’s a human condition without a one size fits all solution.

Remember back to the Florida Foster Child system decades ago.... it took horrid crimes against children and apathy at the highest levels, inadequate funding, etc. before the court of public opinion crucified our leaders. Only then did things change and it’s still an imperfect system.

Bless these lovely old souls who’ve given so much over their lifetimes, only to be been forced to live without dignity and die alone. They don’t deserve this, no one does.

My heart breaks for the elderly in homes. I have a friend who has an elderly mom in such, and I just have a broken heart and I do know, if I had a mom who I could not visit, that they have no group meals any longer etc.....that I would not hesitate to bring her home during this period. Of course, sitting on hands and will not state that to my friend, and it is causing me great angst sitting on my hands.

@dixiegirl1035 It would be very sad for all of those folks to just be sitting in their rooms, waiting for food and med checks.

The real question is, when does that end? They may as well get it, and roll the dice. Some elderly people do survive this virus. And honestly, based on the atypical issues with this particular virus, I don't see a vaccine happening right away.

Coronavirus Florida: Bradenton area a hot spot for nursing home deaths

Manatee County has one of the highest COVID-19 death tolls in the state for residents of nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other long-term care communities.

There have been 13 COVID-19 deaths at Manatee County elder care communities, the fourth highest among Florida's 67 counties.

The deaths at these homes for fragile seniors account for 42 percent of the 31 people who have died from COVID-19 in Manatee. Sarasota County had six long-term care residents die from COVID-19 out of 23 total deaths.

After resisting for weeks, Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the Florida Department of Health to release the names of hundreds of long-term care facilities with COVID-19 cases. There are eight elder-care communities in Manatee County - seven in Bradenton and one in Palmetto - with coronavirus cases and 10 in Sarasota County.

That may change. Perhaps FL should draw more corporate business down here.

Having said that, an Amazon warehouse is being built south of me, in Venice:

Amazon building new distribution center in south Sarasota County

Bringing more jobs into the state is a very good thing.

This reminds of the disaster after the hurricane when they were dying without AC and power - it was inhumane. Regulations were passed but without inspections - the bad behavior just continues IMO.

More at link but this was this afternoon.

The death toll in Florida now stands at 779.

Of the 31 deaths in Manatee County, 13 were residents or staff members at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities.

In Sarasota County, there are 289 people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus. Of those, 24 people have died from COVID-19 and 97 people have been hospitalized.

Hillsborough County remains the hot spot in the Tampa Bay area with the highest total of cases: 971. About 6 percent of the more than 15,000 people who have been tested have tested positive for the coronavirus.

In Pinellas County, there are 604 people who have tested positive, or 5.7 percent of the more than 10,000 people who been tested.

She’s doing ok, sore and whimpering and not liking that cone of shame she has to wear. Just got her to eat something and gave her a pain pill, will try to take her out in a bit. I have a feeling it’s going to be a long night...she’s my sweet girl. Thanks for asking.

Tom Brady told to leave Florida park closed by coronavirus: report | Fox News

Newly signed Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady was asked to leave a park in the city that had been closed to limit the spread of COVID-19, according to Mayor Jane Castor on Monday.

The City of Tampa later tweeted, "Sorry @TomBrady! Our @tampaparksrec team can't wait to welcome you and our entire community back with even bigger smiles -- until then, stay safe and stay home as much as you can to help flatten the curve."

Brady recently moved his family into a furnished mansion he’s renting from former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter in Tampa.
