Really??? This isn’t a grade school fight, lives are at risk. Grow up!

Angry governor defends firing of state coronavirus data analyst, citing insubordination and a messy criminal case | Video

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis launched an angry attack on a fired Department of Health data manager Wednesday, downplaying her role in the state’s online COVID-19 platform and airing her messy legal fight with a former boyfriend — a tangle that includes charges against her for stalking.

He did not comment about emails showing that officials at the health department ordered mapping expert Rebekah Jones to sever public access to raw data on the state’s coronavirus website. Some data that had been used for unflattering news coverage was removed from the site in early May, but it has since been restored.

DeSantis, speaking at a news conference with Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday, argued that Florida remains transparent when it comes to virus data. He said Jones “should have been dismissed long before that” based on her background, which includes an active charge of stalking the father of one of her young children.

Boy, he is really digging. Deeper and deeper. Like a child digging sand out of a hole at the beach.

Did they really think that people in Florida were that stupid to not see the glaring problems with the data? I don't even have a degree in statistical analysis and I could see the problems.

Wow! Holy Lawsuit Batman! I can already hear her knocking at the door of the Dept of Labor and the rustling of paper as the Hostile Work Environment lawsuit begins. He has wasayyyy overstepped. Personal attack, private info published without consent. In one of the articles one of us posted on here earlier today, she’s already stated she’s been advised to wait for the interviews.

Sure hope he’s fattened up the state coffers because this is gonna be big. 100% the last flippin thing this state needs.

You would think DeSantis would at least pretend to be concerned about the spread of germs, considering he has a newborn baby at home!!!!!

I had no idea that these meat packing plants were in Florida. You would think we would have at least heard about testing done in these plants as there have been big problems that we have heard about elsewhere...but we have heard nothing.

Why Florida can't get its story straight on Covid numbers (opinion) - CNN

But data for these three groups in Florida is incomplete. For example, both JBS and Tyson have meat-packing plants in Florida and neither has reported outbreaks or testing results.

ETA: I meant to reply to @PayrollNerd post!

Well, by the strict definition many of the workers at the meat packaging plants are not citizens, therefore, according to the "logic" in "Flordah", they don't have to be counted. Data via Homer Simpson logic.

We all need a feel good story for a change...

With extra cash on hand after Easter, Gavin and Max Gelinas figured they could put their money to good use.

The teenage brothers set up a GoFundMe page, each chipped in $100 and put out the word that they wanted to buy food from area restaurants and donate it to healthcare workers and first responders. A thousand bucks seemed like a reasonable goal, Max reasoned, maybe even a bit ambitious.

“We blew through that,” said Gavin, who is 13.

Through Wednesday, Gavin and Max’s fundraiser, called genERous portions, has collected about $5,200 and helped the teens buy about 430 meals for those at the Jupiter Police Department, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Jupiter Medical Center and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center.

Coronavirus Florida: Jupiter teens raise more than $5,000 to buy meals for first responders, healthcare workers

In the beginning of this, back in Mid March, my daughter's employer made a deal with a caterer, to cater all of the employees meals when they were working. I think that he was afraid that no one would show up for work (?).

Employees still get lunch provided now. BTW, she works for a small, local hardware store, not a big chain store. Buy local.

Interesting timing that the state employee in charge of the COVID-19 dashboard was removed after she wouldn’t suppress data, and Pence is coming to Orlando today to meet with Desantis to discuss reopening the tourism industry.

....and Pence is also personally delivering PPE to “a” nursing home...one of the many that Florida has. Too bad this wasn’t provided earlier to these nursing homes.

MOO

Pence to visit Orlando nursing home, talk tourism on Wednesday
relatives can't even visit their loved ones yet - I heard on the radio this morning the woman in charge of Medicare services or something like that - she is traveling with Pence - that they hope to allow visitation sometime in one of the phases. Yet Pence goes in - it's not fair IMO

Is Gov. Ron DeSantis rigging Florida’s COVID-19 numbers? | Editorial

DeSantis’ main problem throughout the crisis has been poor communication. He refuses to sit for in-depth interviews and at too many public briefings, responds to shouted answers only he can hear. Even then, his answers are brief, absent the kind of detail that would help people understand the complexity of the challenges we face.

That poor performance contrasts with those of most other governors. A SurveyMonkey poll just ranked DeSantis 47th in terms of dealing with the virus. Three other Republicans — Larry Hogan of Maryland, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire and Charlie Baker of Massachusetts — led the list.

Nothing would hurt DeSantis’ credibility more than the sense that he is rigging COVID-19 data. Skepticism is called for given how he’s withheld information about nursing homes infections, medical examiners’ reports, and the shortage of coronavirus tests and personal protective equipment (PPE) in nursing homes inspected by the state.

On Wednesday, the governor appeared in Orlando with Vice President Mike Pence, who delivered PPE to a nursing home. It was a curious event, given that the state has claimed to have had enough supplies and President Trump has made clear the federal government is “not a shipping clerk.”

It reminded us of Pence’s last visit to Florida in March, when he was advising Americans under 65 that cruises were safe. A week later, the CDC issued a no-sail order.

Pence and Rubio seemed to be quite good buddies with the CEO's of cruise lines. And I noted, that these guys WENT TO MIAMI to meet with the CEO's. The CEO's didn't even have to leave their offices. The politicians WENT TO THEM. I think that is hugely significant.

What other industry can get a United States Senator and Vice President to fly to Florida, to meet with the them? Normally, CEO's have to go to DC. Just saying.

Yes. The minions were sent.

This leads to another issue.

My husband and I have always voted by mail. I am disturbed by the innuendos lately that all mail in ballots equal voter fraud.

Universal Orlando has proposed a plan that would allow it to reopen to the public on June 5.

The Orange County reopening task force unanimously approved the plan, but it must also be approved by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

My golly how much more pain must the unemployed endure....

DEO confirms ‘security incident,’ those affected have been notified

By ABC7 Staff | May 21, 2020 at 4:50 PM EDT - Updated May 21 at 5:19 PM
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - ABC7 has learned that there has been a security incident regarding re-employment assistance with the Department of Economic Opportunity website. The department says it was caught within an hour and those affected will be given identity protection.

ABC7 received calls about an email that was sent out to applicants that many thought was a phishing scam. The DEO has told that this is a legit email from the company. We have learned of no correlation between that email and this data breach.

The DEO said the email was sent “to individuals who applied via paper or the mobile friendly application. This email is to deliver them their temporary PIN in order to access the CONNECT system and is extremely important for this person to collect their benefits”
