Dinner today will be from the farmer’s market. The bi-color super sweet corn has just come in...

Michigan corn season is probably 5-6 weeks away. We had a couple of ears on the 4th, but it wasn't as good as our Michigan corn - sweet and buttery without even adding butter :)

Going retro here tonight, steak with Waldorf salad. Been wanting to make it for a while but kept forgetting to buy the grapes!

Corn is crazy expensive here, peaches, watermelon. It is more expensive to buy peaches than beef short ribs.

Pulled pork in the crock pot here tonight. House smells amazing. Letting it cool so I can assemble some of my frozen meals. I've got leftover red potatoes, squash, and zucchini to fill my containers. Yum!

We have a wonderful farmer’s market. No third party sellers are allowed, only the farmers and gardeners who grew the produce are allowed to sell there. Also beekeepers, mushroom growers, etc.

It’s fun and interesting to chat with the farmers and gardeners about the varieties of tomatoes, green beans and other produce.

Last week we got into an interesting conversation with a mushroom grower. And the week before with a backyard beekeeper.

Other farmer’s markets in neighboring cities allow third party venders who buy produce in bulk and resell it, and it is expensive and sometimes not even fresh. So we really love our market.

Yum...note to self: Buy ingredients for waldorf salad.

Been so long since I've made that.

With all this talk of Waldorf salad, I’m going to have to watch Fawlty Towers tonight! (Most episodes are free on YouTube).

One of my favorite salads is Shepherds Salad - I think it’s Turkish. Chopped tomato, cucumber, and onion mixed with feta - the good stuff sold in brine, not pre-crumbled. Add a little olive oil, a small bit of apple cider vinegar, and some of the brine. Oh, and fresh parsley. So good for summer. I like to add a chunk of good, crusty bread to sop up the dressing.

Last night we had spicy grilled chicken thigh tacos - yum :) Tonight we're having walnut/panko-encrusted walleye with Michigan zucchini. Later this evening, I will prepare marinade for Ina Garten's Tuscan Lemon Chicken. DH will grill the butterflied chicken for dinner tomorrow with broccoli. I will actually be using the marinade recipe for Ina's Grilled Leg of Lamb (adding yogurt). I've done both marinades, and the chicken is much more tender with yogurt added.

Ground lamb is currently $9.99 a pound, so we won't be having lamb burgers for a while. Didn't even look at leg of lamb price, but I'm sure it's outrageous  We enjoy marinated leg of lamb at least once every summer. It is delicious!

The chili-lime spice jar from Trader Joe’s is fantastic. I love it over diced mini/Persian cucumbers. Not regular/English cucumbers - you really need the mini/Persian. Maybe that would work on melons, too? Either $1.99 or $2.99.

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful dinner with friends at a Turkish restaurant in a neighboring town. We had delicious lamb shanks served over smoked, pureed eggplant (they didn't call it baba ghanoush, but it was like that), with a tomato sauce drizzled over it all. I also had a salad, and they served wonderful hot bread with a dip. We had baklava (of course) for dessert.

I could have made a meal out of the just the salad and the bread/dip. We brought home leftovers and had another meal of lamb and smoked eggplant a couple of days later. Thinking about the excellent food, I'm eager to go back and try other menu options!

You NEED this in your life! Life changing!
Try Tajín with cooked and thinly sliced potatoes. So good. Or mango, jícama and cucumber. It makes a very fresh snack

Thanks everyone for contributing your uses for Tajin.

I've been seeing it in the stores, but wasn't quite sure what to do w/it.

Now, I know!

I've never seen Tajin but will look for it next time I'm in Nino's. Problem is, I have several spice blends and don't use them often enough to justify having yet another one :D We had a large canister of Old Bay around here for a few years and finally replaced it with a smaller version. I also have a Cajun spice blend and Z'atar. I had Chinese Five Spice for many years and finally tossed it because I rarely used it. Chili-lime sounds like something that we would like, so I might have to get some. DH and I like a little heat but will end up with heartburn if we overdo it

Had my annual mammogram this morning. It's raining and there is a lot of construction in the area, so DH drove me. We hadn't been out to breakfast since December, 2019 and decided to visit Ram's Horn. The popular diner has a new menu with several avocado-themed breakfast items. I ordered an avocado omelet and didn't realize that it had Swiss cheese in it. Melted cheese does not agree with my delicate digestive system, so I scraped it off as best I could. I kept tasting bacon and figured that the avocado might have been tossed on a flattop where bacon had been cooked. Sliced tomatoes were actually pretty good. I was a little disappointed, but DH enjoyed his spinach/feta omelet with pancakes.

You are going to love it! Especially on ripe melon! And perfect to rim bloody Mary glassed or margaritas.

I bought my husband a Ninja Foodi grill. And it is perfect for him! He is blind, but still likes to cook. It is an electric grill, he had a steak last night, and it was done perfectly. You don't have to turn it. You set up the temp, put a probe in the steak, and it does the rest!
