I’ve been wondering if as many people will be able to cookout this weekend. If the air is already poor, firing up a charcoal grill or even a nightly bonfire, seems risky. I guess people will need to keep the hose nearby.

I’m surprised fireworks haven’t been cancelled in some areas. We’ve been so dry here. The Grand Prix Boat races are along the bay front here this weekend. I was thinking of those vendors in the food trucks. How dangerous this heat is for them.

We regularly have Total Fire Bans here from August onwards in dry years. A single spark from a fire can travel and ignite bush miles away. We've had big disaster fires that have taken out thousands of hectares of land just from a cigarette butt thrown out a car window. Fines are stiff, because the price for people can be death, whether they're civilians or firefighters, and millions of dollars worth of property damage, to say nothing of millions of stock and wildlife killed or injured.

Some local communities have cancelled or postponed their fireworks displays. The Rochester Hills fireworks were scheduled for last Wednesday (28th) and were postponed indefinitely. We have had very little rain, and the smoky air conditions persist, although we have no "air quality alert" today.

I ate the two drumsticks from the Costco chicken for dinner last night, while DH put thigh meat in his pasta. I will make chicken salad today that we'll enjoy on Nino's awesome Cranberry Pecan bread. I'll make pasta salad tomorrow, and we're having burgers with baked beans on Tuesday. We'll ne noshing on leftovers the rest of the week :)

I was just rooting thru the fridge to see if we had enough stuff to make the squash casserole again. I only have regular Ritz crackers on hand. I also have a zucchini. The oldest is 100% gluten free but the youngest can eat some wheat. Since the oldest has left, I’m going to improvise again and see how it turns out.

The youngest has asked for a chocolate cream pie so that will be our dessert for the week.

I’ve been wanting corn on the cob for weeks. But it’s been so expensive this year!

It’s 91 deg, feels like 102 & thankfully the humidity is only 58%. Maybe I should switch to middle of the night food prep.

We usually have a rule that we will only eat Michigan corn which isn't usually available until mid- to late-August. Nino's has loose ears of corn for 69 cents each which seems ridiculous, but I told DH that he could get a couple when he goes to get fresh ground round and rolls for burgers on Tuesday. Watermelon prices seem high, too, but, like corn on the cob, it should be included with summer holiday meals :)

It just started raining, and I hope it rains all day. We need it desperately!

We love squash casserole, and the one I make is similar to yours, but with saltine crackers. I add extra onions and extra cheese.
Corn on the cob here has been 4 ears for a dollar. At that price maybe I should freeze some.
Our temperatures here are in the 90’s. Last week we had a couple of days reach 101 -102 F. Thank goodness for AC!

I'm in So Cal. The 4th always worries me. We have enough fires here without fireworks added to the mix. :(
We won't be cooking outside today. The high is going to be 104 degrees, humidity 15% where I live.

Quoting myself to say that we won't be cooking outside this weekend or on the 4th. It's just too hot.

I also was thinking it was too hot to cook out. Now I’m trying to figure out why I bought 12 chicken legs to cook on the barbecue. Am I just too idealistic? ;)
One thing….. I do the prep work, but my hubs does the grilling. :D

I’ve been known to grill at sunrise in the summer. Wrap it in foil, pop in the fridge, warm in the oven later!

My second squash casserole came out good! I made white rice too. Weird combo but it was what I wanted. Tomorrow is salmon, black beans and rice. It should make 2 or 3 meals.

Then I made a chocolate cream pie. That really hit the spot on a hot day!

The produce pick up yesterday was big. I need to find a home for the peppers. There’s too many! I am making a new gluten free squash casserole recipe today. I have it ready to bake but it’s too hot to turn the oven on just yet.
Hey Payroll,

i agree it is to hot to turn on the oven for baking in the summer. I bought a air fryer over a year ago. I absolutely love it And it does not heat the house on hot summer days. I bake casseroles, pies, homemade pizza and basically anything you can bake in the oven.

i use my old corningware casserole dishes and standard glass pie pans or small square metal pizza pans.

Here is a pic similar to the one I bought on sale at Kohl’s for $180:

What do you think about the combination air fryers and microwaves? Our Microwave is on it's last legs.
Rather than buying two space consuming appliances, here are two combination appliances I'm considering.

or

Thoughts anyone?

I don’t have a microwave, but I have a toaster oven/air fryer combo. I hate it. The air fryer doesn’t cook well at all. If I ever get another it won’t be combined with anything.

Two of my friends purchased the Cuisinart combination toaster oven and air fryer, and they both love it. They use it every day.

Oth of them purchased it at Costco.

I would like to get one but I don’t have the counter space.

Thanks, you'll never go wrong at Costco!

What I need first though, is a replacement for my microwave. I only have a small space in my cabinets for that, no counter space to spare. I'm hoping I can get a combo appliance that includes at least an air fryer.

I think back to the Jetsons, they had an appliance that did everything!

If we are talking about the Jetsons, I want a Rosey the Robot!

I don’t know anyone who has a combi Wave. Sounds like a nice idea though. I would suggest reading the reviews.

If you decide to get a combi wave let us know how you like it.

Good Luck!
