I absolutely love our cast iron skillets. I rarely use anything else. I even bake in them. They are heavy, though.

I switched to Hexclad cookware several years ago and love it. All the advantages of cast iron plus.

I have found that it heats faster and more evenly than cast iron, and is not nearly as heavy. It is easier to clean and maintain.

After a few months of using Hexclad I packed up all my other skillets, pots, and pans and took them to Goodwill.

My husband has a co-worker from Colombia who introduced us to pan de bono. They are little buns, super delicious. I decided to make a batch myself today, but had to get some new-to-me ingredients like masa harina and cassava flour (I used tapioca starch). I live in a neighborhood where those items are easily available - maybe they are everywhere, I don't know as they are new to me.

Pan de bono is delicious! And, they are surprisingly easy and fast to make. I love having a new favorite.

If interested, just google for recipes since I'm new to them and cannot offer which one is best. There seems to be a variation with every recipe I looked at. The only suggestion I have from my first experience is that using only feta cheese yields a salty result. I skipped adding additional salt and the buns were still a bit salty. In the future, I will use a different cheese or a combo of cheeses instead of only feta.

The buns are gluten free.

Maybe you already know this bread....and never told me how yummy it is!

Edited to add: My husband doesn't think the buns are too salty and reminded me that my taste buds are wacky after my bout with covid several weeks ago!

I might have to try out the Hexclad. Gordon Ramsey calls it the “rolls royce of cookware”.
Thank you for the tip.

I bought mine at Costco at a really great price. Twice a year Costco has a Hexclad “road show” with demos and special pricing.

Me Too
Love it, I belong in the 40s!

MIL is back so we smoked meat yesterday. Used a ham and a rack of ribs from the freezer stash. I have food for days. Today she wanted football food, bacon wrapped jalapeños stuffed with cream cheese (made in the air fryer so they are healthy right??), Buffalo wings in air fryer and venison Queso. Entertaining the idea of a wild game night for a wild football night. Would stick with venison Queso. Then maybe dove breasts made up like boneless wings and would need a wild hog for some wild based bacon for the poppers. Husband says I need to figure something out for rattlesnake. Guess I better get my hunting license even though I’m still swimming in venison.

We should be in house by end of the month and we plan on making some homemade venison sausage with our stash.

It was 44 degrees here in north Georgia this morning! I needed a hot breakfast. Big skillet of Rosemary potatoes for comfort food. Then I topped them with cheese, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and more cheese!

I’m stuffed but my toes are still cold. I need to go put my frizzy socks on. These regular socks aren’t enough. Imma wimp!

It has turned quite cold here in southeastern lower Michigan - low 40s overnight and mid-50s during the day. Furnace has been running, and we switched to flannel sheets over the weekend.

DH made his monthly trip to Costco last Friday. He got salmon for several meals (in freezer), a roto chicken that has made two meals so far with Chicken Divan on the menu tonight to finish the bird. Two cases of Perrier this visit (they've only had Pellegrino lately), and two boxes of Pepperidge Farms goldfish cracker mini packs to give out on Halloween. DH also received a case of McCann's instant oatmeal that he has for breakfast every morning during the winter. He used to buy several boxes when the instant oatmeal packets were on sale at Nino's but found that he could get an entire case (12 boxes of 12 oatmeal packets) from Amazon. He's still finishing his summer supply of Grape Nuts (he ordered a case last spring). I rarely eat cereal and prefer yogurt, toast, bagel, or English muffin, an occasional egg for breakfast.

I'm going to make a large pot of Bolognese this week. It will make several meals with pasta or polenta. It's definitely the season for comfort food.

My husband walked into the kitchen, wondering what I had simmering on the stove and not noticing the "new' pot was missing a handle. He opened the lid and recoiled. I am making ink out of acorn caps and bought an old pot from a second-hand store to do it. Does that count as cooking, lol? The color is a beautiful dark brown.

Will you be making "acorn ink" pasta? :D

I ended up making a huge pot of Bolognese yesterday, but we had Chicken Divan for dinner as planned. I had taken a 1# package of ground round out of the freezer on Sunday and left it in the fridge. I wasn't sure it was completely thawed, but when I discovered that it was, I decided to get started on the Bolognese. It was simmering on the stove when DH returned from his swim - just in time to do the cleanup! I considered making the sauce in the slow cooker, but most recipes suggest browning the meat and sauteing the veggies first, so I just used my Martha Stewart Dutch oven and let the Bolognese simmer on the stove for three hours. It is thick and rich, very flavorful, and will make several meals with pasta or polenta. There's leftover Chicken Divan, so no more cooking this week. We're thinking about going out for brunch after our flu shots on Thursday morning, and we've been having dinner at Picano's every other weekend. Maybe I'll bake pumpkin bread one day soon. Fall has definitely arrived.

I am heading to an Indian spice and specialty shop today just to walk around and pick up whatever catches my interest. With all the news in the world, I want to be immersed in a smell-good, look-good atmosphere and find simple comfort.

It’s finally getting cool enough I think I can get the freezer dryer going again. I hate that food prices are so high right now to be stocking up. I guess I’ll try to find as much on sale as possible. I really wish I had my greenhouse up and running to grow our own.

I have a big ham bone left over from the smoking, I’m thinking a big pot of black bean soup or split pea and ham and then freeze dry it for when it’s colder.

I love split pea soup. It's tradition in our family to have it on Thursdays in the winter. (Not every Thursday.) I might steal your idea for black bean soup as I haven't made that in ages. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

My dad always loved split pea soup, and when I was a kid I thought it looked unappetizing. I didn’t like the color of it and the whole house smelled like pea soup when my mom simmered it all afternoon on the stove.

We ate a lot of soup in our family and we each had our favorite: Dad’s split pea, my brothers liked chicken noodle and Campbell’s Chicken and Stars. I liked mushroom soup and tomato soup, our mom liked vegetable soup or bean soup.

Now as an adult split pea soup is one of my favorites, and I could eat it every week.

Who doesn't love a hot bowl of soup, especially when it's cold outside? My favorites - to eat and make - are beef barley with mushrooms, navy bean with ham, chicken noodle, and matzoh ball. Soup is good food!

I couldn't decide on the split-pea or black-bean soup today, so I'm making creamy wild rice soup in the crockpot instead. It's a comfort food for me and reminds me of my mom who loved it.

My friend made homemade chicken noodle soup for us this week. The weather being chilly, me out riding in parks, and the heat set pretty low, (for me anyway) it was a welcome comfort food.

Last night we went to a pub. I never go to places like that because I don’t drink. Anyway, I ordered chili and potato wedges.

Well, those wedges were literally 1/4 of a big baked potato. There were 6 wedges! They must have made them in an air fryer. The outside skin was crispy. They had melted cheese on top and sour cream on the side.

I still have 4 1/2 potato wedges to eat! I finished my chili for lunch today.

Would you mind sharing your recipe? I love wild rice.

The potato wedges sound good. I might add some bacon!
