The Super Bowl will be airing here at 6:30 tomorrow and we'll be having cocktail meatballs with cranberry glaze, hubby's wings, hot & smoky baked beans, potato salad, Asian dumplings, crudites, and some kind of dessert that won't be left over for days since I've only just cleared out the Xmas baked goods.

A really simple puree soup here: 400g/14oz frozen chopped bell peppers, 1 cauliflower (just cut all branches off), add water and bouillon cube, when soft enough, add 200g/70z cheese spread and use a blender to make it into a puree.
Food done!

I am cooking appetizers for a Super Bowl party tomorrow. Several different baked dips and also some desserts.

It's been a bit since I have said HELLO on one of my favorite threads.

Since it is winter here in the northern US I have been making a lot of comfort food. Today I am making pork chops with "from scratch" scalloped potatoes.

What's everyone making for the Super Bowl? It's just me and Mr. Pirate so I will try and keep it small. I am going to make a crock pot of chili. I also have some cocktail sauce and shrimp.

I cooked brownies (for a change!) but they were a bit of a disaster because I misread the recipe and used completely the wrong size tin. Still tasted good! But they were only a half inch high and more like cookies in texture. They'll be great when I make them again, in the right tin.

Still looked pretty!

Yes! It tastes great, I just goofed and grabbed my large rectangular tin rather than my small one, so there was way too little batter to fill it properly.

Next time, I'm just going to make it in my eight inch square tin like I usually use for brownies. I think the volume will be fine.

Small household here: we will be making crockpot chili and nachos for the superb owl. Neither of us are big fans, so we tend to keep it on the big screen in the great room and wander in and out. It's just a day of self-indulgence, mainly.

Well it turns out that Campbell’s discontinued the Cream of Shrimp back in 2024.

Anyone have any ideas on making a substitute I can use in recipes?

I’ve been on a homemade Chick fil A chicken sandwich kick this week. I bought Purdue frozen breaded chicken patties & regular hamburger buns. I love pickles so I add extra and I use mustard only. I don’t butter the buns, no need to.

I buy a shrimp bouillon from Asian supermarket. In packet, dried. It is strong but have mixed it with cream and herbs, very good. Would work on your cauli dish.

Also, talking about green peppers a few days ago.. I roast them with lots of lemon juice, olive oil and chili flakes.

Nice as side to meat or fish

When I google this, they're saying consider the cream of celery (really like the cream of celery/use this one a lot for things). I would think cream of mushroom, too, or cream of potato. Maybe chop some shrimp right in, like already cooked shrimp. OR/and maybe make some shrimp broth with shells and/or paste and add that in? Maybe dried or canned shrimp.

They then alternatively recommend the broth thing, but in conjunction with making the shrimp soup from scratch (wth roux, cream, whole deal).

Still looking, here's someone's recipe. I saw Campbell's uses tomato paste in there, I don't think this one does the tomato paste:

Seeing Knorr has shrimp bouillon cubes, and I think Better Than Bouillon has a seafood one.

That's kind of bad they got rid of this soup, though, because there's not another canned cream product for this, I don't think. I mean I'm sure there is somewhere, but I'm not seeing it. Seems like the closest fastest option is doctoring up another of the Campbell's cream soups. (I like the celery, but the potato might be easier and more neutral in terms of doctoring it up.)

Speaking of discontinued products, I read a few days ago that Minute Maid will no longer make their frozen juice concentrates. I'm sure I posted a punch recipe here many moons ago that included a large can each of orange juice and lemonade concentrates. I always used Minute Maid for the champagne punch that also included ginger ale, club soda, a jar of maraschino cherries and their juice, ice cubes or ice ring. The punch is delicious - better than Mimosas for brunch. I always mixed and chilled everything but the champagne and added it at the last minute for the "bubbly" special effects.

I’m done cooking & baking. Now I need to go back to Publix. I used my last stick of butter for the cobbler.

The spaghetti squash is cooling, then I can scoop it out and stir it all up.

The food pick up had some odd things, like the salmon meals were cold, not frozen. I do not feel they will be safe to eat. They are 5 days beyond their best date. While that is typically fine, these just don’t look right.

They gave me a case of Gatorade, 3 flavors, 12 oz bottles plus 6 cans of some type of soda. My kids will like this stuff but I won’t drink it. I checked the dates too.

The little yogurts were frozen so I’ve kept them in the freezer. Maybe they’re supposed to be like ice cream cups?

My grandmother died from complications following food poisoning from eating mouldy bread.

I often go through my BIL's fridge and throw stuff away. He doesnt remember what leftovers he has in his Tupperware boxes..

Its just not worth risking it.

I hate when stuff gets discontinued. I always think of Arby's potato cakes, I was mortified when they removed them. Yes, I mean I guess I could try and make them myself, or just get tater tots, but I love Arby's potato cakes, so I was delighted when they brought them back. This was not to be with another of my Arby faves, the Arby-Q, gone forever. And the Arby's turkey sandwich "back in the day," it's nothing like the current ones, it had sliced turkey in the same spirit as their roast beef on same bun with shredded lettuce and Horsey sauce. And then there was the Taco Bell Taco Lite (anything but/loaded with calories), I've wondered if the taco salad shell might be similar (going to have to try to get one of those mini taco salads). My favorite running shoe brand (Pony) also essentially disappeared. And favorite candy bar, Choco-Lite. And favorite chocolate drink, Choco-Cow, lol. Had this goofy little picture of a cow. Completely discontinued food chain: Italian U-Boat (SO good).

The closest to Minute Maid on the orange concentrate from what I can see is Tropicana (and maybe even Tropicana Light) and Great Value. On lemonade concentrate, seeing Great Value again or Signature Select (Albertson's/Safeway). But I'm sure there's at least a slight flavor difference no matter what, so it's probably not going to be a perfect fix. (That punch sounds really good.)
