We made a really great dog food for our two older dogs, I got the recipe from my son whose vet recommended it for his older dog.
I firmly believe it extended the lives of all three dogs by years.
Here’s the recipe. I made it in a crockpot but you could also use an instant pot.
Healthy Homemade Dog Food
3 pounds ground turkey (fresh or frozen)
1 1/2 cups brown rice (not instant)
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
2 cups frozen peas
1 1/2 cups carrots (chopped or sliced)
1 1/2 cups sweet potato (chopped or sliced)
4 cups water
Place all ingredients into crockpot. I put the turkey on the bottom, then rice, then the other ingredients. Cook on low for 4 - 6 hours, you don’t even need to stir while cooking.
Then cool, stir, and divide into refrigerator or freezer containers. It will keep refrigerated for several days or frozen for months.
You can use frozen carrots instead of fresh. Sometimes I substitute green beans, or use kidney beans instead of black beans.
Bow wow!!!! Throw in some seasoning and I'd eat that.
I usually set it up to cook overnight, and I wake up in the morning thinking something delicious must be for breakfast. It really smells wonderful.
