As Guy Fieri would say, I'm "old school" when it comes to cooking. I've always had a Crock Pot but rarely use it. I like the process of cooking: stirring, tasting, checking for proper seasoning, etc. There is real pleasure and a sense of accomplishment when I've taken the time to cook something wonderful from scratch. Bon Appetit!

Which is probably how I will cook when I am retired. Right now, it is "get food on table". Preferably with as little work as possible.

So many things! I love to make soup, veggies, a bit of rice. My husband likes ribs, 35 minutes for baby back ribs is perfect. I do like pasta too, but we are working on less carbs here.

When our dog was 15, I was making his food in the Instant Pot. That was quite a process. But so worth it. I believe that helped him live longer. Our cat too, he had kidney disease, and I made him a special mixture, and put the food an ice cube tray, so it was perfectly portioned.

But probably soup is my favorite. Carrot ginger soup is one of my favorites.
We made a really great dog food for our two older dogs, I got the recipe from my son whose vet recommended it for his older dog.
I firmly believe it extended the lives of all three dogs by years. For our younger dog I mix in with his regular dry dog food.

Here’s the recipe. I made it in a crockpot but you could also use an instant pot.

Healthy Homemade Dog Food

3 pounds ground turkey (fresh or frozen)
1 1/2 cups brown rice (not instant)
1 can black beans (drained and rinsed)
2 cups frozen peas
1 1/2 cups carrots (chopped or sliced)
1 1/2 cups sweet potato (chopped or sliced)
4 cups water

Place all ingredients into crockpot. I put the turkey on the bottom, then rice, then the other ingredients. Cook on low for 4 - 6 hours, you don’t even need to stir while cooking.

Then cool, stir, and divide into refrigerator or freezer containers. It will keep refrigerated for several days or frozen for months.

You can use frozen carrots instead of fresh. Sometimes I substitute green beans, or use kidney beans instead of black beans.

Working from home has changed our world in terms of meals. I used to leave the house at 8am, get home 6.30pm shattered. Loving that I can make soups and omelettes for lunch, and evening meals from scratch. I was too tired before.

I have been eating a lot better since being at home. By cooking and not grabbing fast food and binging on junk due to stress, I’ve lost 23 pounds so far..still a ways to go but it’s a start :) I feel a lot better too.

I've been making french omelettes. They take a crazy amount of practice to get right.

Bow wow!!!! Throw in some seasoning and I'd eat that.

I usually set it up to cook overnight, and I wake up in the morning thinking something delicious must be for breakfast. It really smells wonderful.

I thought the same thing :D Substitute chicken or turkey stock for some or all of the water, salt & pepper, sage, rosemary, thyme, or poultry seasoning. Add a little flour to make gravy, and you have a delicious fall dinner.

I purchased a package of special vitamins, whatever from a company, because both the dog and cat needed some special nutrients, due to their age, and the issue with kidney disease. That way, I made sure not to miss anything. They also added something to enhance the appetite. Older animals need that. Unlike me...

There are a lot of people who make their own dog and cat food. Holistic pet owners. My Grandparents had dogs and cats, never bought special food for them, or made their food. They got table scraps, and sometimes a big bowl of oatmeal with cream. They never looked underfed to me.

Is anyone hearing any rumblings about food or supplies to have stocked (not hoarded) if and when the next wave arrives? In my area, we are transmitting at at rate just under 1 but our governor says the second wave will come. My brother is friends with a CEO in grocery and they are saying they expect a shortage of pumpkin, cranberry, stuffing mix and other baking ingredients like flour this fall as holidays approach with a possible second wave. I do love to cook and the recipes here were so refreshing to use. I’m starting to stock up in case you all share cookie recipes lol.

I saw the rumblings posted in one of these threads so about a month back I started stocking up on canned pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices and ordered pumpkin spiced coffee, I should be OD'd on it this fall.

How did this turn out? Did you use vegan cheese? If so, what kind? I was thinking I could use gluten free flour and a little goat cheese. My youngest and I love tomatoes.

Same here. It really is much nicer to have the time to cook lunch while working from home.
