Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving! Turkey meatballs in gravy are reheating in slow cooker. Potatoes are peeled and simmering on the stove. Pierogis will need to be reheated when DH is ready to do his door-dash to my brothers. Someone gave my sister a 17# turkey that she is roasting, and she is going to bake stuffing in a casserole dish. She cooked sweet potatoes a couple weeks ago and froze them. She'll reheat them with brown sugar, butter, and marshmallows. Her adult son will join her, and they'll watch football.

Whatever you are doing to celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope you will all have a wonderful holiday. Be safe and stay well.

I’m eating an Eggo waffle. Lol
Safe Thanksgiving to all.
I had chocolate cream pie for breakfast. I am “eating my feelings” as they say.

Our Thanksgiving plans were blown to smithereens last night when my daughters roommate tested positive for COVID. This woman is nearly 30, a functional alcoholic NURSE, who is not taking precautions.

My daughter was briefly in her presence on Tuesday but had no idea her roommate was sick. Then my daughter came over here to study all day Tuesday. So, I was exposed, albeit briefly, when we walked by each other. Probably no higher risk than going to the grocery store but still.

Heath Dept is now involved. The roommate had been reported to the hospital where she works. They say our risk is low and they’ve started tracing.

Sadly, all 3 of us are home alone. And we are all online trying to find my youngest a new place to live. Sigh. I need more pie.

So sorry to hear about your plight, PayrollNerd. You were so looking forward to a stress-free Thanksgiving with your daughters. I hope you are all going to stay well. Enjoy that chocolate cream pie :D

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that!!
If she was only around her briefly on that one day and not any days before that - hopefully very low risk for your daughter!
Try not to worry! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Might be a good use for those "protein shake" tumblers!

I have had one of those protein shake tumblers in my cabinet for at least five years, because I convinced myself I was going to drink a protein shake every day so I bought one. But I tried a protein shake once and didn’t like it, and never used the tumbler again.

This gives me a reason to use my tumbler, yay!

Those tumblers would be perfection! As you want to shake shake shake shake to get rid of the lumps and have bubbles!

I don't have one, but that would be even better. MOO...

OOOOOHHHH, I'm so waiting upon my meal!

7 total. Friends we see daily at work who are down here without family and my stepson and his girlfriend who we see routinely. This is all me for the cooking. Friends are bringing some other side dishes as well. I think I’m 46 so not so young but not so old. Not sure I’ll be able to get my workouts in tonight or tomorrow though. Would like to ride horse in the AM but probably should clean the house instead. I’m one of those people if I sit still I fall asleep but if I keep moving I’m getting things done.

Sounds just lovely! What a wonderful day you have planned. I so much enjoy living vicariously through others here!

Well, I'm 30 years older than you, so 46 sounds young. I probably had considerably more energy when I was that age....if only I could recall.

I'm sure everyone will enjoy the dinner!

You've got a few years on me, anneg, but I know how you feel. I get frustrated that I'm not as energetic as I used to be. It's also becoming difficult to stand for long periods of time while prepping meals. My back starts to hurt, and I know that it's time for a break - like now. Everything is packed and ready for delivery to my brothers. They will have to reheat hot items, but no real cooking is involved. DH is doing kitchen cleanup. We'll nosh throughout the day, but mostly we both plan to chill. I'm almost ready for a glass of wine: It's 5:00 somewhere :D

Eat all that pie you desire PN! You deserve it! Isn't it really true what I heard someone say - Thanksgiving day food consumed doesn't have any calories or ill effects on an otherwise healthy diet?
I had leftover Spaghetti for breakfast (trying to clear out frig). Made a pumpkin pie and blackberry cobbler this morning. Most of both will be frozen. Having thick sliced deli turkey breast, stuffing and fresh cranberry salad later. Only reason I'm doing that is somewhere (on this thread probably) mention after Thanksgiving wraps with turkey, stuffing and cranberry salad. I love wraps and have been craving this since I heard of it.
Other than that, I'm putting up Christmas decorations today.

I ate 2 pieces of pie, took my “cocktail” which includes the steroids because it’s Thursday. I’ve stayed busy, resting my hip when needed.

I made the green beans yesterday so I popped them in the oven to warm them. The potatoes and carrots are done. I did the veggies first in case my youngest needs me to put a plate of food at the front door. She doesn’t eat meat.

Put the bird in the oven a few minutes ago. On the inside, oranges, orange juice, garlic, 2 bay leaves, celery. I forgot to cut up some more onion but no biggie. On the outside, powdered spices (onion, garlic, salt, pepper) and real butter.

This is my take on a Cooking Light magazine recipe from years ago. It was called French Farmhouse cooking. They roasted a whole chicken at a high temp. I’ve made it for years. It is quite tasty.

So looking forward to seeing it all crisp and brown. Thanks for sharing your photos.

This time of year always inspires us to peruse the National Archives Catalog for historic recipes and food related records. Enjoy!

Many of us have spent the last few months learning new skills while keeping safe at home. Making bread has become very popular in so many households. You may have mastered sourdough, brioche and an Italian loaf, but have you tried these rolls and biscuit recipes found in the National Archives Catalog?
