I think the pear version has potential @PayrollNerd but I muffed it up a bit.

It needed more pears, I was a bit cautious. Also the base came out a bit too thick, my fault as I played with the quantities a bit. Otherwise, all good :D

Will def try it again. Thanks for sharing, from your house to mine :)

Looks good to me! Hope you had plenty of cream or custard to go with it.

It looks delicious! Did you reduce the sugar in the topping?

Yes a little. Used raw cane sugar though so it wasnt quite as fine as caster. I think it would be really good with plums, richer.

This post lands at random.

Lots of goodies being discussed in here, but if members wish to discuss recipes in general, we have a mouth-watering subforum in the private forums called "What's Cooking" for general discussion about recipes.

As this is the Covid forum, let's keep this thread about issues related to Covid.

Thanks !!

While under Coronavirus quarantine/shutdown, note there are other general recipe threads in addition to the one above (https://www.websleuths.com/forums/forums/whats-cooking.96/ ) posted above in case you want to look up or post vs. the conversations we have here. Here are other general recipe threads. (I searched for the word recipe in thread titles, and came up with 63 hits here at WS as many are for specific items)

Anyway, while under Coronavirus quarantine/shutdown, I haven't had much of an appetite lately. It's like I get no enjoyment out of eating anymore. I used to make large amounts of food with frequent get togethers and have healthy leftovers, but this cooking for just one is getting really boring.

A simple breakfast comfort food:
Take your favourite bread (although cinnamon & raisin bread is my favourite) & toast it. Without putting butter on it, put the honey straight on the toasted bread. It's like honeycomb. I love it!

Has anyone noticed what I refer to as "covid food"? It's when you buy a typical food product and discover its not quite the same as usual. I blame it on the pandemic meaning workers and/or supplies are in short supply and mistakes are made.

For example, I bought a bag of mini marshmallows to use for the candied sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving. When I went to take the marshmallows out of the bag, they were really sticky. I had to pull them out, most were sticking to the inside of the bag. All of them were sticky that way. I assumed it was problem in the manufacturing process or a worker with little experience. The taste was fine, the texture when cooked was somewhat runny, but it was all good.

Anyone else noticed these kinds of boo boos, packaging mistakes, etc?

My husband and I were just discussing that the last time we actually went out to dinner was about four months ago, in August. We used to go out 2 or 3 times a week.

So, the Pandemic has made me cook a whole lot more than I ever did before. And I go to the store significantly less often than I ever did before. I have found that washing and wrapping lettuce in paper towels and putting them in plastic bags, they keep almost 2 or 3 weeks. The same for prepping all of the other vegetables. I have been pickling the fresh carrots and celery to keep them fresh longer.

I’m sure this has already been mentioned (and my apologies if it has), but there’s a website that will give you recipes based on the ingredients you already have at home >>> https://www.supercook.com.

While under Coronavirus quarantine/shutdown, this is a great site you have linked as I don't go shopping often and my pantry gets threadbare. I just did a quick test for my bananas that are going to go bad soon lol. It's so helpful for our mental health to have this thread and posts such as yours to cope with the COVID pandemic. Thanks.

I am surprised the must try food for Hawaii is Spam! I guess I was expecting something more tropical. DH Loves it. I cannot stand the smell of it whenever he opens the can. I do buy it to keep in the pantry. It was sold out for a long time when Covid began.

Now, the choice for Indiana is spot on. Country fried steak is one of my DH’s favorites. He loves country fried steak. He could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Thanks for posting this fun trivia. It was a nice break from reading the depressing news about Covid.

I’m eating an Eggo waffle. Lol
Safe Thanksgiving to all.

wanted pancakes all weekend- did not want to cook them and did not want to get "pancake take out".... finally took out some mix and made them myself this a.m. ... COVID has pretty much taken all the magic out of dining out, IMHO.

If your bananas are "turning", you can put them in the freezer, then when you have time, use them for banana bread or something similar. Once thawed, they'll be too mushy for eating plain, but work good for recipes.

I've been doing quick breads lately, and will probably do some to give away for Christmas gifts. During COVID times, they don't require a lot of special ingredients and are quick to make. Nut, pumpkin, banana, cranberry orange are some of my favorites.

As to your post re food and recipes while under coronavirus quarantine....

Thanks, just looked it up as I cannot rotate stuff much these days by sharing. It says to peel first... going to try it! I hate all things that are other than just a plain banana, but I do love banana bread! I'll perhaps make for a neighbor a small loaf of bannana bread or hmmm treat myself! Thanks for the idea to look up as I've never done in my life until considering food and recipes while under coronavirus quarantine

ETA: I just remembered one of my BEST recipes from 40 years ago. Poppy seed cheddar bread. Since I have such.. (cheddar I need to use) perhaps I will make an effort to do such...

Thanks, I'm inspired!

We freeze bananas a lot because the food bank gives us so many. They are usually at the bake some bread or make a smoothie stage. I wrap them individually in Saran Wrap then load them in a gallon baggie.

Bananas are so good for you, too. Lots of potassium, B vitamins and magnesium.

I love those types of quick breads, especially cranberry orange bread and scones or muffins. We have a local bakery that makes these, as well as lots of other wonderful things. I have to watch my intake of such things, though!

ETA: re ripe bananas, if I have one approaching the overripe stage, I put it in the fridge and eat within a couple of of days.
