The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)
Circumstances of Recovery These unidentified human remains (UHR), notably a partial segment of what appeared to be a mandibular dental arch, containing two incisors and one canine, were located in the Gulf of America near the drop off before a sandbar on Okaloosa Island Beach.
On 06/19/2025 at approximately 1540 hours, a passerby was collecting shells with a net scoop near the boardwalk adjacent to El Matador Condominium on Okaloosa Island when she retrieved an object she initially believed to be a shell. Upon closer inspection, she observed what appeared to be human teeth and promptly notified the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO). Upon further investigation and examination by OCSO and the District One Medical Examiner's Office (D1MEO) of Florida, the item was later confirmed to be UHR.
The UHR are currently in the custody of the D1MEO for further testing and forensic identification.
