The body of Karen Carter, a 65-year-old married mother of four,
was found outside a property she ran in the village of Trémolat, east of Bordeaux,
on Tuesday evening.

An investigating source said
that the mother-of-four was found 'covered in stab wounds',
with desperate efforts now underway to identify and find the attacker.

According to the Bergerac prosecutor's office,
the victim suffered multiple wounds to her chest, groin, arm, and leg.
The murder weapon has not yet been found.

When medics arrived,
they found Ms Carter 'in cardio-respiratory arrest' and, despite attempts to revive her,
she died at the scene.

Residents of the small rural commune were in 'total shock' from the incident.

The victim was 'a delightful, energetic person who got on with everybody,'
one resident said.

'Nobody can understand how this could have happened in a peaceful place like this.
We are all keeping our doors locked.
It is deeply worrying'."

:(

Rest in Peace

Une femme retrouvée morte dans un petit village de Dordogne, une enquête ouverte pour meurtre
Murder of a woman in the Dordogne. “She was loved by all”: shock in a small village
Simple rubalises block the entrance of the lodges where a drama took place on Tuesday, April 29, in the small village of Trémolat on the border of Bergeracois and Périgord noir. That evening, a man discovered the body of a sixty-year-old woman, who was operating two lodges in the commune, lying in blood, in front of her house, very close to a car. According to the first evidence collected by “Sud Ouest”, the victim died after being stabbed several times. According to the public prosecutor’s office in Bergerac, she had five deep injuries that showed “a particular violence” and demonstrated “the will to kill”.
"I closed the shutters around 9:00 p.m., everything was quiet, says the neighbor who lives opposite the victim’s property. But at 11 o'clock, I saw many lights with the Samu. The police officers then rang my doorbell around midnight to see if I had noticed anything suspicious, but I saw nothing and heard nothing.”

It looks like the crime triggered by jealousy, no?

The victim had just come home from a meeting with a male friend
before being attacked.

Was the murderer lurking near her house waiting for her return?

Confused about this one. Seems like window of time he had to commit this crime and get away was small seeing as the friend arrived not long after she was killed.

She had spent the evening with a friend “with whom she had been in a relationship for several weeks”. They had been out with other friends before returning to her home. Her friend says he arrived 10 minutes after her, and found her bleeding, collapsed and unconscious.

A neighbor who lives across the street said she saw and heard nothing. She closed her shutters at 9 pm, and by 11 pm she noticed the flashing lights of the emergency vehicles.

The victim was an athletic woman, being a “member of the Reines du Foot team, a group of women over 50 who participated in the Grandma's World Cup in South Africa in early April.”

Hate to be suspicious, but why did the friend arrive 10 minutes after her?

"Prosecutors said
her male friend phoned for help at 10.17pm
before administering first aid.

He was detained by police before being released on Wednesday evening.

A criminal investigation has now been launched,
Sylvie Martins-Guedes, the Bergerac prosecutor, confirmed.

She said that
'a search has been launched
to identify and arrest the perpetrator',
and
that possible motives included robbery'.

Karen was the owner and manager
of two guest houses in Trémolat.

They were both frequently used by guests from the UK."

It might mean,
that friend arriving in his car
made the perp abandon his plans and flee the scene.

If the place she was killed at is also guest houses she owns and runs, was anyone renting the guest houses at the time? Any dispute with someone staying?

These are her guest homes, according to the name in the above link. Really lovely:

woman has been arrested over the murder of a British mother-of-four who was stabbed to death outside of her home in France.

Karen Carter, a 65-year-old mother of four, was found outside her property in the village of Trémolat, east of Bordeaux, after returning from a night out on Tuesday.

Sylvie Martins-Guedes, the prosecutor for Bergerac said: 'A woman aged 69 years old, who comes from Trémolat and is part of the couple's circle, has been detained.'

An investigating source said she was found 'covered in stab wounds', suffering multiple wounds to her chest, groin, arm, and leg.

'The wounds revealed a singular violence and their placement showed the desire to kill,' Martins-Guedes added.

Alan Carter, her husband, told French media he had heard of his wife's murder on Wednesday during a phone call with his cousin who also had a holiday home in the French village.

The couple had owned the property for about 15 years, the 65-year-old said, and they divided their time between South Africa and Trémolat.

Murder of a sexagenarian in the Dordogne: a 69-year-old woman from the victim’s entourage placed in police custody ( Dordogne Libre).
The victim was a member of the Queens of Football, a team of women over 50 years old. The team reacted on its Facebook page: "(...) our friend and soccer queen leaves a big hole in our hearts". According to "Périgord Noir", a tribute will be paid to her during the match in the Basque Country on Friday 2 May with a minute of silence before the match and wearing a black armband.

Mr Carter said his cousin, who lives in Trémolat, called him after seeing a post about Mrs Carter's death on a local community Facebook page.

"She phoned me... to say she's sorry to tell me and that she thinks Karen has died. That was the first I heard about it," he said.

"No one had got in touch with me at all to let me know what had happened. I found out through my cousin who happened to see it on a Facebook page."

wounds to the groin = jealousy?

The husband of a British-South African woman found dead at her house in France
has said he cannot imagine
'the terror and the fear she must have gone through'.

Mrs Carter's husband, Alan, who is in South Africa, said she was
'such a decent, lovely person', and spoke of the family's shock.

Mrs Carter had lived in Trémolat for more than a decade,
where she ran two holiday rental homes.

'Particularly since Covid,
my wife has spent more time there running the gîtes [holiday homes].
It's been very busy, it's been very successful',
Mr Carter said.

He described Mrs Carter as an outgoing, friendly person
who 'wouldn't hurt a fly', and said her death has been 'traumatic' for his family.

'I'm an introvert, and she's the exact opposite.
She's an extrovert, she loves people, she loves to have fun.
People love her, she has a good heart',
he said.

'She's the one who would bring home the lost dog, or cat, or whatever.
She's that sort of person.
Everyone liked her.
That's why I married her.
She's just lovely'."
