I think they all should have got much longer sentences.

"The world gathers
to see justice for Gisele Pelicot.

The trial – which has gathered international attention – has gripped France and the world since its outset in September.

Some 180 journalists from across France and the globe queued outside the Avignon Criminal Court before dawn this morning to hear the verdicts.

Feminist campaigners have been protesting in the street outside the courthouse waving placards demanding 'Christmas in jail' and 'Easter behind bars' for Pelicot and the other defendants.

People in the crowd outside the Avignon courthouse cried:
‘Justice for Gisele!’
and sang protest songs calling for women to
‘rise up against male violence’.

The defendants - including primary defendant Pelicot - were brought to the court in prison vans with sirens blaring across the medieval city."

"Five key takeaways

from Gisele Pelicot's statement.

View attachment 552737
  • Madame Pelicot said she thought about her children and grandchildren when putting herself forward in the Monster of Avignon trial
  • She thanked lawyers for their support, journalists for covering the trial and added witness statements and testimonials gave her strength when returning to court.
  • Ms Pelicot insisted she never regretted her decision to waive her anonymity and said she did so to ensure 'society could see what was happening'
  • She called for a future in which men and women 'can live together in harmony and mutual respect'
  • In her final remarks she said she respected the court and its decision amid reports her children were disappointed by the length of some of the sentences handed down."
  • "She called for a future in which men and women 'can live together in harmony and mutual respect". If only that day would come. That's a very long list of men who thought raping a drugged woman was OK. It's not one perp offending many times over. Very disturbing! I've seen video of dozens of women lining up on either side, cheering and applauding as she walked by. Not a single man in sight. Were they not allowed to be there? I don't know, but I do know women need more male advocates or nothing much will change.

"Gisele Pelicot makes emotional statement after watching her sobbing husband
jailed alongside fellow rapists -
as daughter screams
'you will die like a dog'."

"Crowds of supporters cheered Gisele Pelicot as she left court in Avignon after her ex-husband was among 51 men who were sentenced for a series of rapes and sex attacks against her."

"Gisèle Pelicot has thanked supporters in a speech outside a court in France, after her ex-husband Dominique Pelicot was jailed for 20 years for drugging her and recruiting strangers to rape her."

Justice is served!

What I dont get is how he could find so many men relatively locally who shared the same sort of perversion? One of them lived in the same street.

  • #546
Would you all hate/ban me if I suggested that they may receive further punishment in prison?
No.
But I suggest you're being overly optimistic on them receiving further punishment in prison given that the perps are a sample of French men of all ages, professions, cultural backgrounds etc.

  1. Hassan Ouamou: Guilty of aggravated rape. Sentenced to 12 years. Currently on the run in Morocco and has told investigators he has no intention of returning to France.
I bet!
Coward! Can't face up to his crime and the consequences thereof.

Maybe good if he does remain in Morocco, less burden on French tax-payer, and means he won't be let out in 12 years in France, or in fewer years for good behaviour. otoh who's to say he'll actually remain in Morocco...

"Merci, Gisèle,

from women everywhere.

1734634667262.jpeg

Mrs Pelicot deserves our gratitude.

But though she is a survivor and a campaigner,
she is also a victim
who lives with the lifelong consequences of four sexually transmitted diseases
and who has described herself as
'totally destroyed'.

:(

And though her courage has inspired so many,
no woman should have to be this brave or this strong.

The politicians who have applauded her
must now make good on her demands for change by ensuring justice for other women and addressing the culture that enables such crimes."

"The case was heard by
a panel of five professional judges
and ran until 19 December, when the verdicts and sentences were announced.

Gisèle Pelicot had waived her right to anonymity
in order for the trial to be held in public, saying:

'Shame must change sides' ”

Apparently M. Pelicot did not expect to receive the maximum sentence of 20 years for his appalling crimes. I wonder just what he was expecting. No wonder he was sobbing, it's not that he is a man without pity, it's just all for himself. What an evil çowardly thing he is.

"Delivering sentence, Arata said
Dominique Pelicot will not be eligible for parole
until he has served two thirds of his sentence.

His lawyer did not rule out lodging
an appeal of the verdict.

'We're going to use the 10 days which we have to decide whether or not to appeal this decision',
Beatrice Zavarro told reporters."

What would be his grounds for appeal?! Oh, it's so unfair? Well, she was my wife? What was so bad about it anyway? Why do people have to make such a fuss? Oh, poor poor me.

It’s a really good question and the only one that comes to mind is Ambien. People sleep walk, sleep eat, and I have a friend who says it knocks her out so much she doesn’t ever remember anything in the night ever waking her up. But I’ve never taken it so I don’t know, but something for anxiety/sleep like Xanax could most certainly knock you out in high enough doses, but as you say it’s so incredibly dangerous.

Gisele, you are strong. You are brave. The world of women stand behind you.

1) Dominique's older brother is a doctor and is one of the doctors who prescribed the "anti-anxiety drug known as Temesta to Gisèle Pelicot. He said she suffered from bouts of anxiety and had trouble sleeping.

2) "After previously testing a variety of drugs and sleeping pills, Dominique Pelicot began administering Temesta to his wife in 2015, acting on the advice of a nurse he met online. The drugs put his wife into a deep sleep, allowing him to sexually abuse her without her realising."

3) Dominique told his doctor he was experiencing money problems and suffering from anxiety to get his own prescription. "Prescribing Temesta for patients who suffer from sleep disorders or anxiety is extremely common in France, to the point that pharmacies frequently run out of the drug."

4) He gradually increased the doses from three to ten tablets a day, crushing them into her food and drink.

5) "In all, nearly 780 Temesta tablets were prescribed by various doctors until 2020, the year Dominique Pelicot was arrested. "

Any rapist who remains free can rape other victims. Being in Morocco doesn't prevent that; being in prison would.

MOO

Rape still happens in prisons. It is a control thing. Anywhere .

At least one year pro each rapist, DP had hired (70+) plus extra years for his own drugging/raping/manipulation I would have found approbiate.
20 years seems to be ridiculously little to me.

Totally agree but under the law 20 years is the maximum sentence that he could have received

"For the public watching worldwide,
the sentencing of depraved rapist Dominique Pelicot and 50 other men for the decade-long sexual abuse of his unwitting wife Gisele
yesterday brought the horrific saga to a close.

For the Pelicot family, however -
particularly Gisele and daughter Caroline
- the impact of their patriarch's crimes will be felt for the rest of their lives.

The 46-year-old daughter,
known by her pen name Caroline Darian,
believes she too was subjected to sordid abuse by her father.

'I consider myself to be the forgotten victim of this trial',
Caroline told the court."
