"We will fry you with [suicide] belts and explosives," the fighter said.

The second fighter addressed France, saying, "You not prosper and you will not last long. We have started by you and we will end at the so-called White House which we will turn into black with our fires."

I know they're evil, mean what they say, and we have to take them seriously, but when they use this kind of language I can't help but roll my eyes. They're going turn the White House black. Oooh, sick burn.

No pun intended.

You should read their crazy magazine, it's full of these epic insults ;)

I don't know how I forgot this. A year or so ago, the hysteria and mayhem when there was an influx of South American people, a lot of children coming into the country, and some people wanted them gone, now, while others were more sympathetic. After all that calmed down, I have to ask, where did we all place the people coming here to look for a better life? I haven't heard about all that in awhile.

I was also thinking of this....I can't even remember what the hysteria was about: They had TB? Lice? They would bring crime and drug cartels? They would be a drain on the system? (Sounds like the good ole days compared to ISIS) Then came Ebola......

I have been frustrated by the fact our new PM has not explained the accelarated vetting process of refugees. Then it sorta hit me. Likely not a good idea to make that public. I guess I just have to trust my Canadian Goverment will do so with due diligence. I dont know wether to laugh or cry????

There is a woman that lives in Germany, she has a facebook page that I belong to, about celebrities, guilty pleasure, but she has been explaining to us about the refugee camp that has been set up across from her building. At first she was mad and complaining, but yesterday she had a very nice encounter with a young girl, and her dog, and they all got along very well. What she keeps saying is that there are a lot more men then women and children. Don't men need help as well? I understand that people are afraid of the fact some of the men may be terrorists, I get that, and listening to all sides, I understand what people are saying. As a side note, I was upset we weren't all getting together for Thanksgiving, but then realized, with different views, and some family not willing to listen to others, the meal would not end well.

It's amazing when you challenge your own xenophobia and something beautiful results. I did just that after 9/11 and have had my life enriched by my Jordanian Muslim friends of all ages and sexes; despite being an Australian of English and Italian heritage and Catholic.

The men are leaving as they are forced to fight for Daesh or be massacred. They have no means of resistance from their weaponry.

As for being scared of terrorists and running around in, or inciting, panic and fear, I prefer to act on direct threats rather than react. As I've said before, according to statistics, I am much more likely to be killed or injured ny a partner than a terrorist.

My family are atheists or agnostics, I am a liberal Cathlolic. I am not fazed by the wider world and everything in it while they busy themselves with more shallow pursuits. I'm a philosopher at heart but they don't like to think too deeply. Despite our differences; I want to spend time with them over the Christmas dinner table and I know they want to do the same with me. We just avoid loaded conversations and I ignore or forgive their teasing about my beliefs, because I love my family and I know they love me. We all need each other more than ever right now.

I said South America, but I believe it was Central America. It was on the news constantly, and then, nothing.

If—
By Rudyard Kipling

(‘Brother Square-Toes’—Rewards and Fairies)

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Search underway for unauthorized person who tried to board jetblue flight to NY from LAX

Snip

KTLA reports that airline police received a call that an unauthorized person was trying to use a passenger boarding bridge to access the plane.

“No one has been detained or arrested and the search for the suspect continues,” Robert Pedregon of the Airport Police told KTLA.

The flight was delayed and towed to an area where a bomb squad is sweeping the plane. No passengers or crew were on the plane at the time of the incident.

JetBlue said in a statement that once the aircraft is cleared, the plane will depart for JFK.

Kuwaits - one of the reputed main sponsors of ISIS has taken some action

Kuwaiti authorities have arrested members of an Isis cell that “supplied funds and weapons, including rockets, to Islamic State”, Reuters reports.

The group included a Lebanese, an Egyptian, five Syrians, two Australians and a Kuwaiti national, the Kuwaiti National News Agency (KUNA) said

I enjoyed reading your thoughtful post and I think most people, if given the opportunity would have good personal interactions with Syrian refugees. The true refugees with no ulterior motives are humans just like you and I. I have read in many places that a lot of people think the woman and children should come over as planned but men should have to wait or not come at all. the fear is exactly as you stated about people being scared some of the men might be part of isis, but I also know a lot of people in my life who feel that these men should be the ones fighting for their country, not coming to other countries as refugees while these same countries are the ones trying to eliminate Isis in their country. It's just a sad situation and I agree about thanksgiving and political discussions. I know every family dynamic is different. Mine are a mix of moderate conservatives to ultra conservative and even that can get dicey.

I think I really got upset yesterday after hearing the remarks of our president. In fact, I went on a little rant here last night about it I was so appalled. my position has softened a little in the past 24 hours after my initial anger wore off. I think Isis is going to try to attack here whether we let refugees in or not. From this post forward I'm going to try to not allow my opinion on the leadership in our country cloud my posts.

Ps-I'm ok with the women and children coming as planned but there's a lot of logistical issues with that so I don't know if it's realistic. I think it could also cause more problems down the road.

RSBM

Prediction: If it gets to Obama he will veto it.

Yes - I saw that . The suspension has received some unfavourable responses from Euro journos tonight , on twitter:

eg Joshua Hersh ✔ @joshuahersh
From Europe it just looks like some random country basically unaffected by this crisis is having a tantrum

Mathieu von Rohr ✔ @mathieuvonrohr

This scares me to death as a wife of a JB pilot based out of Boston. But, my husband has great confidence in TSA and says he will always come home. He says security is much different since 9/11, and he has the utmost confidence that security will contain all threats. As his wife, I still worry, only because they seem to find new ways to do bad things.
