First, my response was a direct & tongue-in-cheek reply to something Mrs. G posted. It in no way represents my perspective of a complicated situation.
Second, in your family's situation... not to be insensitive but I think the Arabs hated the Turks & thus spared your family's life.

The enemy of my enemy & all that good stuff...,

Glad you are here.

:gasp:

2010? Oh dear. Read a few chapters further back in the book of what happened and what wrong.

One could all the way back to the Crusades, skim through centuries and read the part where Western nations post WWII imposed artificial boundaries to create incohesive states, skim again to the 1970's- 1980's and proxy war with the Soviet Union in Afghanistan which led us to arming freedom fighters to fight the USSR who would later morph into terrorists more interested in going after the US.....skip a few chapters and read about Iran the anchor state fighting Iraq the other anchor state - enter a Bush....skim skim skim. Kaboom. 9/11. Bush Jr destroying the whole of Iraqi infrastructure and civil institutions and big WHOOPS! pursuing a policy of de-Baathication of the military which WHOOPS set in motion ex- very very bad military leaders displaced from power looking for a way back in, hello the founders of ISIL. Ex- military specializing in such lovelies as psych-ops.

Waterboarding. Torture. Guantanomo.

Centers of power destabilized, power vacuums, civil wars.....many other factors in the past decade fanned the flames, so to speak, but ISIL is not new, just the 3rd generation or so of blowback.

Hi Hope. As every educated American knows we could go back to the inception of this nation if we wanted to--in fact if you are going back to go way back in time to the Crusades, Mesopotamian times are more appropriate historically and conceptually given the topic of discussion. If we want to fast foward to the last century I think we can all agree that Carter Bush, Clinton, and Bush made big and small mistakes militarily in the Middle East--FWIW I hold fast in the belief none of them did anything with malicious intent.

But none of those presidents are currently in office and our current POTUS has unilaterally been in charge for 7 years: it is simple--just like those Criminals who commit heinous crimes that most follow here on WS whom we want to stop blaming everything and everyone under the sun except for themselves and their own choices for the horrible crimes they have committed-- it is time for this President to do the honorable thing and accept responsibility for the current problems we are facing with terrorism (and an asundry of other domestic issues as well) as a result of his failed Foreign Policy.

With all due respect it is more productive to utilize information that is directly related to the current situation, which is why I simply suggested that Trident focus on the factors that contributed to Syria in it's current state.

Respectfully, what I presented (1980's on, anyway) is entirely relevant to what is going on right now. Bush Jr. handed Obama utter disasters on two fronts- imminent economic collapse and the failed state of Iraq with no functioning government or military in place and a whole heck of a lot of extremely radicalized folks in many countries thanks to our war crimes like torture and the illegal bombing of civilian infrastructure, just for starters.

The clock did not start ticking on Obama's watch. It would have been crazy for Obama to listen to warhawk Republicans and to bomb Iran (even Israel's military leaders told us- don't to it!!), and crazy to have boots on the ground awhile
back in support of a small faction of (here we go again) freedom fighters who stood no chance of defeating Assad.

You write beautifuly ! IMO Whoever is in the oval office is like a figure head -- the mess we are in , in all domains , is our Congress

The 113th Congress remains on track to be arguably the least productive Congress in modern history,
just 142 public bills have become law in this current Congress (2013-2014) – down from the 906 the 80th “Do-Nothing” Congress passed in 1947-48, and the 333 that were enacted during the Newt Gingrich-led 104th Congress of 1995-96.just 142 public bills have become law in this current Congress (2013-2014) – down from the 906 the 80th “Do-Nothing” Congress passed in 1947-48, and the 333 that were enacted during the Newt Gingrich-led 104th Congress of 1995-96 per NBC!

They vacation, then vacation, then aargue, then vacation, then vacaation. IMO, should be term limits what a difference we would see

The Rise of ISIS, the current chaos is Syria, the instability in Iran and Afghanistan and vicariously Pakistan, a new war in Afghanistan, and the Libyan Consolate debacle all happened on his watch--they are his to own, and his alone. All of which wer the direct result of the Obama Admin half a$$ing their way through something as serious as the safety of Americans from JV ISIS terrorists that have been contained and are on the run. The factual documentation is there for anyone who wishes to objectively peruse the facts.

And because opening up the "economy" can of worms is a little far off topic for this thread I'll leave that for another day. :loveyou:

For the sake of our long standing camaraderie maybe we can agree to disagree :toast:, as well a out of respect for the other posters.

Respectfully yours, Mind

Oh, was too tired last night, re the 7 hour seige I posted. Obviously I did not watch the whole thing! Did cllips , and you know what guys, the image we have from our mass media is totally different .

It was calm, almost somber, long for sure, but earily quiet . This coverage reminds me of huuicane coverage , hysterical , Isis has been putting out hate videos for how long???

I think it would be "more" scary if everytime they put one out something happened. THey have been promising death to all of us for ages !

I wish media would calm down -, negative reinforcement is as potent as postive- quit it Don!

I agree completely--let's agree to disagree, no worries. If I get into another president bashing exchange it won't be with you. :)

CARIIS, I love you: crazy typing and all! I always "get" you. You rock.

As do you and others, its a scarily addictive place - I do not know about you all, but there are few people that care anymore about what is going on.

I do , however , want to share this. I am 57, despise cell phones, dispise--BBQ ing the other day. A group of 3 21-22 year olds on the other grill.

I also want you all to know I do this relaitivily often- and beleive me they happily shocked me. I asked have you all heard about Paris --they said YES, I ws thrilled !!

Will never ever forget, during MH370- some here know my love of aviation! In a 7-11, this was like 7 weeks into the story. I sa a guy in line with a TSA jacket.

So excited, never forget the question, so what do you think happened. This dude looked at me so bewildered, (yes we can say it would be confusing question to a person that is not a TSA employyee!

Knew nothing, blew my mind, and I just got pissed something like "you know the triple seven that vanished from the face of the earth about 2 months ago"

Nothing, knew nothing. Driving home , I was evaluateing self , and No the conclusion I came up with was, not your not nuts, it is a resonable exp[ecation that somneone working at an airport might know about it!

It would be like asking afirefighter any where in USA what do youthink, I think they would know about the wildfires ya know ! Boy did i get off track -------again!

We all have notions about the office of president. What I can not get is how we, as a nation, put up with our congress.

It is a sad indicment of "us" when I was shocked , thought it amazing and stunning, when within 24 hours , in France, all the govt was there in the speech he gave.

Non American folks here , ponder this, if the same thing happened here- congress would be half empty- they are campaigning -to me it is the same thing, as wanting to change faciity your working at -- and the last 2 years your there, you are out interviewing for another postion, ignoring your pts, its nausating, IMO!

If a democrate said we have darkness some times, a repulbicina would agrue

If a republician said we sell eggs in America a democrate would argue ---

its gotten numbingly obserd..............scary actually - a president is not really running this mess- its them!

BY LOUIS CHARBONNEAU, REUTERS

The U.N. General Assembly's human rights committee on Thursday adopted a Saudi-drafted resolution condemning Iranian and Russian intervention in Syria, a decision that the Syrian and Iranian delegations rejected as unhelpful and unjustified.
