'BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian fighters destroyed a Russian helicopter with a missile, shortly after they forced it to make an emergency landing in a nearby government-held area in Syria's Latakia province on Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

A Syrian insurgent group, recipient of US Tow missiles, said its fighters hit the helicopter with an anti-tank missile while it was in the air and put out a video showing the helicopter being blown up after one of its fighters struck it with another missile.'

'The fate of the pilots from the downed Russian plane is unsure; one rebel group claims to have shot them while Turkey claims to be negotiating for their release. Turkey is backing rebel groups in Syria against the Assad regime, while Russia has drawn increasing criticism for striking against anti Assad rebels generally rather than only against Islamic State.'

We want to pray that pilot is released. Only solution; otherwise there will be an escalation in the region and fallout throughout Europe.

This is actually good news, IMO. I didn't understand how they could get so many people relocated and housed in such a short period of time.

"Right now there's a 10-year-old girl in a Syrian camp somewhere, and she can aspire that in 30 or 20 years she might be sitting around the cabinet table helping run an extraordinary country like Canada," he said.

Trudeau agreed the refugee resettlement program is a nation-building process.

"This is the story of this country," he said.

Canada Delays Refugee Plan And Says It Will Target Women, Children And Gay Men

Asked if the former plan was logistically impossible, a government official said there is a difference between what is logistically possible and what is logistically wise.

Under the new plan, 10,000 Syrian refugees will enter Canada by the end of the calendar year but only 2,000 will be government-sponsored refugees. The other 8,000 will be privately sponsored.

As a security precaution, unattached young men are largely being left out of the program. The government is focusing on bringing in women, children, families (which could include young men), or men who face persecution for their sexual orientation. Orphans will not be included in the program.

The total cost of the program is estimated at $678 million over six years.

You're right. The first of 12,000 refugees from UNHCR camps in Jordan arrived here last week but it has taken approximately 6 months or more for that to happen. All the while we were building physical capability to house and care for the refugees as well as educate and support the community who has been humane enough to open their hearts and minds.

Accepting refugees carte blanche shouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction but as Jordan only received 15% of the UN funds that were promised to them for the camps and refugees last year and it isn't a rich country, it's been tough going for everyone; refugees and Jordanians alike for about 2 years. Currently; despite MSM reports, Jordan cares for approximately 2 million Syrian refugees; not around 600,000.
