I wouldn't bank on more confessions. He was caught with Maelys' blood in his car. Pathetic monster.

Searches to continue on Thursday

Since the snow and the location of the search were in a very steep area, the investigators spent the day on Wednesday 14 February looking for the remains of Maëlys' body. As Nordahl Lelandais' lawyer Alain Jakubowicz said on Wednesday, the child's body had been "abandoned, not buried."
A snowplow and dogs specialized in searching for human remains were dispatched to the site. But at nightfall the searches were stopped. According to BFM TV, they will resume on Thursday. According to the public prosecutor of Grenoble, the child's skull and a bone were discovered on Wednesday.

Same MO as in the case of Arthur Noyer IMHO.

Jennifer Cleyet Marrel, mother of Maëlys on FB:

It took five and a half months for this monster to finally speak. You the assassin  of my daughter: Maelys will haunt you night and day in your prison until you die and go to hell.
Maelys had life in front of her you snatched her from us, we'll never see her again because of you, I can never hug her again and tell her how much I love her. My little angel, I couldn't protect you from this predator and this guilt will haunt me for a long time.
Maelys I am so proud of you my baby girl you are so beautiful so smiling you are my marvel my sunshine you will always be in my heart.
This monster won't hurt anyone anymore...
Let Justice be done and let never again a child suffer such an act.
We miss you so much. Your fight we'll take it to the end, princess.
4 :heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat: united for life forever.

One cannot really claim 'it was an accident' ---after you have already kidnapped a young girl away from her family in the middle of the night. ANYTHING that happens that ends in her death, is MURDER. End. Of. Story.

Tomorrow the search resumes to find the skeletal remains. The "confession" of Nordahl Lelandais about the death of Maëlys leaves investigators and magistrates puzzled. They come in six months after the matter began.

A sufficiently long delay so that the body of the child abandoned in a ravine and left to predators can be decomposed to the point of making any future expertises difficult or even impossible. The body wasn't buried.

The dogs of the gendarmerie, specialized in the search for human remains, will resume tomorrow morning their fateful but necessary and useful mission, if weather conditions permit, to find other parts of Maëlys' skeleton.

Forensic experts and anthropologists will soon be appointed to determine the real causes of the girl's death.

Le Parisien has more about the presser by the defense counsel:

Alain Jakubowicz, lawyer for Nordahl Lelandais, explains himself. "Upright like a lawyer," he says.

"I pay tribute to investigators even though I've treated them badly sometimes."

"Nordahl Lelandais was totally wiped out, in tears. He wanted to tell his parents about Maëlys right away."

"It's not always easy to tell the truth, but it's liberating."

Accidental death. "Nordahl Lelandais did not wish to express himself until the body was found," Alain Jakubowicz confirms.

Nordahl Lelandais got "a click"[ saw the light ] "Unfortunately or fortunately, the facts are there. We found this little girl. It's a great relief to see Nordahl Lelandais telling the truth yesterday and this morning." Lelandais "was not sure where to find the spot. We called a snowplow. Little by little, we saw that he was reclaiming the area."

When will Nordhal Lelandais be questioned about the circumstances of the death? "Soon," the lawyer says.

"I don't forget there's another case. And that one too, he will have to deal with," he explains, referring to the disappearance of Corporal Noyer.

Asked by journalists, Alain Jakubowicz recalls that he will not give any details on the contents of the case. "I will not violate the data of the defense."

Alain Jakubowizc gave details on the end of the search. A few moments after having indicated the place where he had deposited the body, Nordahl Lelandais "wanted to return to the site," he explains. He collapsed on his knees."Why come back?" he was asked. "I don't want to be sentimental, but I will tell what happened. He said "I wanted to speak to Maëlys", this place that turns out to be the place where he abandoned the body of this little girl.

"We are on the road to the truth." Alain Jakubowizc puts an end to a very long intervention, to the false impression of a plea.

That poor baby.

I am impressed at how much hard work French law enforcement put into this case, and I am glad at least some of her remains have been located. Her parents will never stop grieving, but they will hopefully have a small comfort in knowing where she rests (whether it is in a grave or they have her ashes).

Noooo :( I just heard the news. This is beyond horrible. RIP Maëlys.

Thank you ZaZara for letting me know "what" was happening in this case!!!

Rest in peace Maelys :candle:

Here's another article I found this morning:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-43065000

Nordahl Lelandais, a 34-year-old former soldier, has admitted killing Maëlys de Araujo "involuntarily", without giving details.
[.....]
Nordahl Lelandais said he "got rid of the body" and offered his apologies to the girl's parents, said Grenoble prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat.
[.....]
According to French media reports, Mr Lelandais changed his approach after evidence of blood in his car boot was revealed. He then asked to speak with magistrates and led them to the location of the girl's remains.

France's Le Parisien newspaper reports that Mr Lelandais refused to provide details about the girl's death, beyond his insistence it was accidental.

A prosecutor, quoted in the French press, said that after Maëlys' death, her body was taken to a location near Mr Lelandais' home. He apparently returned to the wedding for some time, before later recovering the remains and burying them in the Chartreuse mountains.

The search for her body took police an entire day, involving sniffer dogs working in the mountain snow.

BBM: this has been his approach/attitude all along. He has changed his story at several points since the night he took Maelys, each time that evidence showed his lies.

I can’t imagine why he FINALLY decided to tell (part of) the truth, but I’m glad he did.

I raise my hat to the French investigators.

I am relieved she has been found, I am sad that she was brutally murdered, I am mad that this family had to go through 6 months of agony and hell not knowing where she was and a lifetime ahead of being without her. This "no words allowed" man, may he suffer for eternity.

  • #818
So glad she has finally been found. RIP Maelys.

ZaZara - re your correction of mine. This is how I had it the first time. And you said the names should be switched.

Adrien Fiorello, a 22-year-old student who disappeared on 6 October 2010 in Firminy (Loire). The young man's cell phone was located in Chambéry (Savoie) in the late afternoon. Chambéry where Nordahl Lelandais had a dog breeding business at that time. Possible suspect in this one; request for information

Adrien Mourialmé, 24 years old, disappeared in 5 July 2017 on the shores of Lake Annecy (Haute-Savoie); his phone pinged for the last time late in the afternoon in the centre of Chambéry - where NL lived with his parents at that time. Possible suspect; verification in progress

I switched these two, but renarde posted this:

Nordahl's business can be placed near the Chambéry train station starting in 2010. According to Google Maps, it is only 550 meters away: a 7 minute walk, or a 3 minute drive. The Chambéry train station was said to be the last location where Adrien Fiorello's phone pinged.

and I've looked thru back post, especially the one with the pictures and dates on them. According to that I have the names correctly....

So this is what I have:

next post.
