I don't know why they even bother trying to talk to him anymore. He has admitted that he drove away from the wedding party , taking the child, who ended up dead, in the forest. There is really nothing else we need to know.

He had obviously wicked intentions. There is NO rational and innocent explanation for secretly taking a 9 yr old away from the party at 3 am.

NORDAHL LELANDAIS EXPLAINS HIS SILENCE AND ATTACKS THE PRESS

France Soir
Nordahl Lelandais explique son silence et attaque la presse

He did not answer the questions of the investigating judges of Grenoble. The last hearing of Nordahl Lelandais on Tuesday 3 in the case of the death of little Maëlys de Araujo did not allow significant progress in the investigation, despite many questions needing answers. The former soldier used his right to silence and the hearing only lasted about an hour and a half before the judges sent the suspect back to his cell at the Vinatier psychiatric hospital in Bron, a suburb of Lyon.

And he who has already acknowledged his involvement in the death of the litlle girl and Corporal Arthur Noyer expressed, according to information from BFMTV, the reasons for his silence. He would have been upset by the "leaks" in the press about the case.

It's hard to know what leaks the suspect is referring to. The last evidence revealed by the media from the file actually dates from early June, when the existence was revealed of a video from the 35-year-old dog handler's cell phone, showing a sexual assault committed on his six-year-old cousin in a place allegedly his home in Domessin. The facts seemed to be confirmed when a search was conducted at his home on June 6.

This new case will also be the one on which the hearing on Tuesday 6 has made progress, since the thirty-year-old has been indicted for sexual assault on a minor under 15 years. While this case is not a homicide, it could be crucial to understanding the way Maëlys' murderer operates: these paedophile acts took place a week before the night of 26 to 27 August 2017, when little Maëlys disappeared from a wedding party in Pont-de-Beauvoisin (Isère). The remains of her body were discovered five and a half months later, at the suspect's indications, in an rugged area of the municipality of Attignat-Oncein (Savoie).

Several grey areas remain over the girl's murder. Nordahl Lelandais explains that the child died "accidentally". When he took her in his Audi to see his dogs in Domessin (Savoie), the child started panicking and the soldier slapped her in the face to silence her and broke her jaw. A version of the facts that clears the soldier of an intention to kill or paedophile motives (which are only hypotheses). However, the autopsy revealed other suspicious fractures in the skull and the accused did not express his opinion about them.

We are also awaiting the results of the autopsie of Arthur Noyer's remains.
It was said at the time that more bones were recovered, does anyone know if they found all of his remains?

Here are some possible explanations...

"Why keep quiet now?"

"Why did Lelandais choose this hearing to mention the leaks in the press, which have been taking place since the beginning of the Maëlys affair, and consequently keep quiet? The indicted is fully in his rights by asking that the secrecy of the case be respected, but it is happening at a key moment of his case and after a period where he had been cooperative.

While his defenders argued at the beginning of the Maëlys case that he was not a pedophile predator, their arguments are now dwindling. On Tuesday, the former soldier was indicted for sexual assault on a minor under 15 years of age, in this case his little cousin, 6 years old. The investigators found, on his cell phone, a video of him touching the sleeping girl. The incident occurred a week before Maëlys' disappearance, and took place at the former soldier's home.

It is BFMTV who, a few weeks ago, unveiled the existence of this video that seriously weakens Nordahl Lelandais' defense.

Does this silence have to do with the results of Maëlys' autopsy? On February 22, when he was heard by the judges, Nordahl Lelandais refused to speak. On March 9, RTL reports that according to the first results of the analyzes carried out by the forensic doctors, the girl's jaw was fractured.

On Monday, March 20, the former soldier is again heard by the magistrates, this time he gives his version which the press will not know until two weeks later. BFMTV reports on April 6 that during this hearing, Nordahl Lelandais explained that he slapped the child while she panicked in his car while he was taking her to see his dogs.

However, this version was contradicted by new elements unveiled shortly before Nordahl's hearing this week. The news channel continued to echo the results of the autopsy, the findings of which were postponed until May. BFMTV reports that forensic scientists have found several fractures on the skull and jaw, contradicting Nordahl Lelandais' version."

IMHO he does not want to be known as a paedophile who murdered a little girl for that reason. Better be known in prison as the one who accidentally slapped two persons so hard they died. Ha ha! Watch out, you may never know.... This will give him an considerably higher status ~ also among his family.

For me, there is nothing mysterious about this man. He had no goal in life, no structure, no job, he went for pleasure, had trouble overcoming frustrations, but did not try too hard, and lost all boundaries with the "help" of alcohol and drugs. YOLO!

Nordahl Lelandais a quitté l'unité hospitalière où il était détenu pour rejoindre une prison

Nordahl Lelandais left the Vinatier hospital unit in Bron on Tuesday afternoon, where he had been placed at his request on 16 February. The 35-year-old former soldier will now continue his detention at the Saint-Quentin-Fallavier prison in Isère, where he will be placed in solitary confinement, BFMTV has learned from a source close to the case.

On 16 February, two days after admitting to having involuntarily killed Maëlys and taken the investigators to the child's body, Nordahl Lelandais had asked to be taken into care in the psychiatric unit of the Vinatier hospital after meeting a psychiatrist and a psychologist.

"The Vinatier medical staff found Nordahl Lelandais' psychological state compatible with detention," a Ufap Unsa official told BFMTV.

No news so far, though I am a little hesitant to write that as news may break while I write.

I had this nagging feeling that there might be a breakthrough in one of the cases of the list. Lucie Roux found deceased, Eric Foray's car located in Africa or in the river. Maybe a hiker stumbles upon the remains of Georgette Amat Chantoux. Something like that. It is the summer season, it has been dry and very warm for a long time. Things may happen.

GARD Colonel Devigny's departure: from the gardois crimes to the Chevaline massacre

Objectif Gard
GARD Départ du colonel Devigny : des crimes gardois à la tuerie de Chevaline - Objectif Gard

Colonel François Devigny's mission ends in a few days. He has been the boss of the Nîmes Investigation Section for 3 years and he will occupy the same position in the Chambéry Investigation Section. Before leaving Nîmes, he looks back with Objectif Gard at the salient cases, crime in the Department and what awaits him in the great cold Savoy. In a few days he will be in charge of the investigation concerning Nordahl Lelandais and the disappearance of Corporal Noyer. He will also deal with the enigmatic and unsolved Chevaline killing, one of the greatest French criminal mysteries of the last 50 years.

Is there a specific nature of crime in the Gard?

François Devigny: There is a crime that is not very organized, unlike in the Paris region where I worked before coming here. In Versailles, there were large structured teams. But in the Gard there is a very high level of violence and nonsense... Cases disproportionate to what they're stealing.

Have you been particularly affected by cases of violence?

A recent case in the commune of Saint-Siffret with an attempted murder of a very seriously injured old lady. The aggression of the jogger of Vergèze in 2016 or the murders, in horrible conditions, of a craftsman in Massillargues-Attuech or of an octogenarian at home in Bessèges. I also often think of a home theft case with mutilations and torture of a 12-year-old boy.

All these cases were solved by the Nîmes investigation section?

All the homicides are solved and it is a relief to leave in such conditions. I benefited from a remarkable team at the SR in Nîmes, able to work continuously for several days to solve a case. For some of them, investigations still need to be made, but one or more people are under investigation in each case.

Is there an unsolved case that continues to intrigue you now that you leave?

When there is an unexplained disappearance of a child or teenager, we always want to give answers to the parents, to the family. This is the case with Antoine's disappearance in Clarensac in March 2016. In this file the means employed by the gendarmerie are considerable. Drones were used, many searches were organized, search dogs were used, but there is nothing. I can't tell you what happened. This remains a very strong disappointment and an enigma for the moment.

Outside of work, what did you like here?

There is a strong identity, much pride, with beautiful and rich traditions. I discovered bullfighting, the Camargue race. There is an enormous cultural heritage and splendid landscapes. Cycling or walking in the Cévennes or Camargue. Mount Aigoual, the Aigues-Mortes sector remain strong memories. But I have ties in the region and I will return with real pleasure on holiday.

Coralie Moussu disappeared from the Gard, her remains were found, her car was not .... she is not mentioned here. Nor is Lucas Tronche.

Why?

You are 100% correct! No date to be found. No new news either.

August is the traditional holiday month in France, so we'll probably have to wait till September....

Maëlys' mother calls for a white march a year after her daughter's murder

Nordahl Lelandais confessed to killing the child, after he abducted her abducted during a marriage in Isère in August 2017.

Her tragic death has moved France. One year after the kidnapping of Maëlys de Araujo during a wedding in Pont-de-Beauvoisin, a white march will take place in her memory in this small town in Isère, on 27 August. The mother of the 9-year-old girl, whose body was found in February, invited those who wished to pay tribute to her in front of the multi-purpose hall where the party was held.

"Thank you for your support for Maëlys," Jennifer de Araujo writes in a Facebook event created for the occasion. Participants are invited to come with balloons inflated with helium to let them fly away after the white march.

In February, Nordahl Lelandais confessed to killing Maëlys. The little girl's funeral took place in June. The thirty-something is under indictment for this crime as well as for the murder of Corporal Arthur Noyer in April 2017 and for the sexual assault of his little cousin.

Les obsèques d'Arthur Noyer auront lieu le 7 septembre à BourgesLes obsèques d'Arthur Noyer auront lieu le 7 septembre à Bourges

The funeral of Arthut Noyer will take place on September 7 in Bourges

After long months of investigation, Arthur Noyer's remains will finally be returned to his family. The funeral of the corporal will take place on Friday September 7 at 14h30 in the cathedral of Bourges, France Bleu Berry heard this Tuesday from the family. The family was granted a burial permit by the courts at the end of July.

"People who wish to pay tribute to Arthur can come," Cécile Noyer, Arthur's mother, tells francebleu.fr. The ceremony will be open to all. "As Didier (the father) said, Arthur did not belong to us, he had many friends, he was appreciated by many people, we cannot exclude them from this ceremony."

Arthur Noyer's colleagues, Corporal at the 13th Battalion de Chasseurs Alpins (BCA) in Chambéry will attend the ceremony, as will "his friends from Bourges and elsewhere." Concerning the investigation, the family does not wish to comment on the legal proceedings still in progress. "We remain vigilant about the investigation but for now we are preparing the funeral, we are in a moment of meditation, to everything its time," the mother comments.

At the end of March, Nordahl Lelandais admitted "spontaneously" to having "beaten" during a "fight" that led to the young soldier's fatal "fall", according to information provided by the Chambéry prosecutor's office. He has since been indicted for murder and remains imprisoned. Nordahl Lelandais is also suspected of the murder of little Maëlys. On June 2, Arthur Noyer's parents attended Maëlys' funeral in Pont-de-Beauvoisin.

People have a right to disappear, France said. Then came a serial killer

People Have a Right to Disappear, France Said. Then Came a Serial Killer
More than 1,000 people disappear in France every year, but no one investigates. The arrest of an apparent serial killer is making the French realize they have a problem

If he’d stuck with older victims, he might never have been caught. No one considered him a suspect after a soldier was murdered two months earlier, and no one thought of looking into why so many people had disappeared close to where he lived. People disappear, the authorities told the families. They run from debts, start a new life, commit suicide. There’s nothing to be done.

But a year ago, on August 27, Nordahl Lelandais made a move that led to his capture. He bundled his latest victim, Maëlys de Araujo, not yet 9 years old, into his car. The discovery of her body, half a year later, would open a Pandora’s box and also touch off a larger public debate in France. Was it possible that a serial killer had been operating unhindered in the country for more than a decade? The French would find out very quickly that the answer might be yes – but also that he might not be the only one. A country that has a higher murder rate than its neighbors, where 1,000 unidentified bodies are found every year and where searches for missing people are not conducted for reasons of principle, might be said to have a problem.

(...)

Maëlys de Araujo, the girl in the white dress, with her dark brown eyes and a braid – as she appears in photographs taken at the family wedding – was the last victim of Nordahl Lelandais. But how many were there before her?

A search for the answer to that question turns up appalling yet ambiguous statistical information about France. United Nations and European Union crime data show that more people are murdered in France than in the country’s neighbors – Switzerland, Italy, Britain, Holland, Spain, Portugal and Germany. Between 2010 and 2014, an average of 801 people were murdered in France every year, as compared to 718 in Germany, whose population is larger by nearly 16 million (67 million versus 82.7 million). Of France’s close neighbors, only Belgium has a higher murder rate.

On top of this, about 1,000 unidentified bodies are discovered in France every year and are buried by local authorities without documentation or a proper DNA examination. In Britain, which has a population of about the same size, 66 unidentified bodies and parts of bodies were discovered in 2016. That huge disparity, experts say, stems from the completely different procedures followed in the two countries. France, in contrast to other countries, including Israel, does not have a national database containing the details of unidentified bodies discovered there – where and when they were found, gender, estimated age, physical description, cause of death, DNA. The other side of the coin is that France also lacks a national database that holds information about missing persons, together with their or their relatives’ DNA.

At this point, we come to the number of missing persons. Every year, authorities in France receive between 40,000 and 67,000 missing-persons reports. The vast majority of these cases are solved quickly: The missing individual returns home or is found alive, or his or her body is discovered. Still, a certain unknown percentage of the files remain open: The missing persons are never found. It’s difficult to estimate the scale of the phenomenon, because no official body in France or elsewhere provides precise information. (The French Interior Ministry refused to respond to any questions on the subject from Haaretz.)

I had this nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right, but the penny failed to drop!

This weekend plus Monday is the memorial weekend, one year since Maëlys disappeared. The French press is paying attention, lots of overviews and maps, but IIMHO the report from Haaretz is the best that I have seen sofar.

La détention de Nordahl Lelandais renouvelée

Le Dauphine.com

Nordahl Lelandais' detention extended

On the coming September 3, it will be one year since Nordahl Lelandais was placed under arrest, after being indicted for the abduction and sequestration of Maëlys. But the Grenoble investigating judges in charge of the Maëlys case did not await the final deadline to extend his provisional detention.

According to information from the Dauphiné Libéré, Nordahl Lelandais wastaken from his cell in Saint-Quentin-Fallavieron Wednesday. He had returned there after the end of his hospitalisation on 10 July. He was taken to the Grenoble courthouse and presented to the investigating magistrates who, without surprise, served him with the renewal of his term of imprisonment.

The day before, on Tuesday, his lawyer, Alain Jakubowicz, met with his client for several hours. Probably to review the various investigations in progress, both in Grenoble and in Chambéry. The criminal lawyer from Lyon has no doubt also probed the psychological state of mind of Domessin's ex-military.
