France - Machine Gun attack on magazine Charlie Hebdo #1

I checked out last couple of hours pounding 70's disco, some cleaning, and now I need to know again ugh

I am so proud of the Francophone papers in Quebec. They had the guts to publish the cartoon on the front pages of yesterdays newspapers. There is a close relationship between many Canadian cartoonists and the cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo.

The cartoon shows the half-hidden, grimacing face of the Prophet Muhammad, saying, "It's tough to be loved by idiots."

The French-language newspapers that published the cartoon are:

Le Devoir.
Le Journal de Montréal.
Le Journal de Québec.
24 Heures.
La Presse.
Le Soleil.
Le Quotidien.
Le Droit.
La Tribune.
La Voix de l’Est.
Le Nouveliste and Métro.
In a joint statement published alongside the cartoon, the newspapers explained they wanted to honour the victims of the Paris shootings, some workers at the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, and show their support for the “fundamental principle of freedom of expression.”

“Attacking someone simply for their ideas and opinions is an unacceptable impediment to democracy,” the statement said.

The Montreal Gazette claimed they didn't follow suit out of respect rather than the cowardice that it appears to be.
Ditto the CBC.

I think the French language journalists were right when they said that English Canada is being held prisoner by political correctness.

Looking at these photos it is literally a 5 minute walk from my mother's on the very same street, happening outside her window. She heard explosions and shots all afternoon, heard constant sirens and screeching. It brought back bad memories of her childhood in WW2 and of living for years in Belfast during the worst of it with a bomb exploding in the hospital the very hour I was born. We then went to the safety of New Zealand for 25 years. And now this, in the safety of her own home in the streets of Paris.

Your poor Mom. I am so happy she was safe inside her home but she must have been terrified.

I think we're in denial about Islamic extremism, terrorism doesn't happen because WE are racist, or there is Islamaphobia or any such thing, Terrorism happens because extremists want to break down free societies and think the entire planet should live under Sharia law.

There is a tendency for some people to post just about everything on facebook, etc. My .02 is that some of these terrorists may just be dumb enough to post sensitive information ?

As far as I'm concerned, these terrorists did not die as "martyrs". They died as cowards and losers who stood for nothing except an excuse (in their shallow minds) to hurt and kill innocent people who have done nothing to them.

Sorry if this was too much of a rant. Just so angry for the innocents affected by all of this. Especially the kids.

It's hard to understand any belief or culture that causes people in the prime of their life to give it all away. Smh.
There have been times I thought a church that likes to protest at funerals (not sure if we can type their name ?) ---would be willing to take it to the extreme if they were in a society that allowed it ??

There must certainly be followers of Islam who do NOT agree with Sharia law ? What happens to them ? My personal thought is that they, too, are persecuted as well. My opinion.

There really is no comparison to Islam extremism is there? Like we all remember those doctors who were murdered by anti-abortionists, but most religions have given up bloodshed in the name of their gods and did so hundreds of years ago. Why does just Islam remain so violent?
