"A police officer was shot dead and another seriously wounded by two Kalashnikov-wielding gunmen on the Champs Elysees in central Paris tonight.

French police said that the incident was probably a 'terrorist act' and the world famous avenue was on lockdown by 9pm.

Heavily armed officers had flooded the area and a third individual - believed to be the killer - was also hurt and 'neutralised', according to police sources.

Reports suggest 'at least' two people were involved in the attack which took place as presidential candidates took part in a TV debate nearby.

Sky news are reporting that the french ministry says that the reason for the shooting is not confirmed. Some reports it was a robbery, while another saying that the police was targeted. So I think its a wait and see situation

Hope its cleared up soon.

France was on high alert Thursday after one police officer was killed and another wounded in a shooting in central Paris, the National Police Union reported.

The person suspected of opening fire on the officers on the Champs-Elysees was also shot and killed, Reuters reported, citing a police source. NBC News could not immediately confirm that...

Sky now saying one attacker "know to security services" and a search of the home is being conducted.

The Interior Ministry spokesman said on BFM TV the officers were deliberately targeted and the police union added that one of them was shot dead while sat in a car at a red light.*

French President Francois Hollande has scheduled an emergency meeting following the shootings on Thursday evening.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for a second suspect who had arrived in the country by train from Belgium.

President Francois Hollande has said he is convinced the attack was terror-related.

There had been reports one of the injured officers had died in hospital of his wounds but that was later denied by officials.

IS GROUP CLAIMS CHAMPS-ELYSEES ATTACK ON POLICE OFFICERS

I read a rumour on another forum that one of them first shot at police in 2001, well before IS was a thing. They might have gotten mixed up with the news that he'd previously said he wanted to shoot cops idk. I think IS gives these ****s a feeling of legitimacy and encouragement for preexisting hatred and anger at society.

I wonder what EU authorities are doing about these ****s who are known terrorist threats? Just waiting to see what they do and hoping they don't? I don't hear much about raids or proactive arrests. If they happen they don't make the news over here.
