What does seem increasingly obvious, though, is that ISIS's amorphous agenda is serving as a convenient rationale for madmen to reach for to justify their acts of barbarism.

Nobody is saying that this was not an Islamically motivated terror attack. Rather, they are saying is that the terrorist went from being a beer drinking petty criminal who probably only generally knew its Ramadan type guy to a raging jihader very quickly.

At the end of the day, radical Islam offers alot of personal identity as a member of a small, "elite" group. Thus, the movement can attract alot of people who are drifting though life and not going anywhere fast. They then want to find a new identity and recreate themselves as a jihader. Later, they launch a horrific attack.

My guess is that Omar Mateen was also this type. He tried to become a police officer, but failed several times. Tried marriage, but failed a couple of times. He was at times, openly religous- but was also known for drinking alcohol in gay bars. He then recreates himself as a jihader and launches a terror attack.

The "quickly radicalized" line says it all, IMO. A drinking, violent, unreligious, mentally unbalanced, psychopathic SOB may (or may not have, waiting for actual evidence) in his final days have claimed identification with a psychopathic terrorist group in order to rationalize a barbaric act.

In terms of carnage inflicted there is no difference between ideological terrorists and the deranged who conveniently claim affiliation when about to commit mass murder, but there IS a difference, and an important one, when it comes to policy and strategy.

IMO "becoming radicalized" is being used so loosely as to be meaningless as a descriptor of the who and why of deranged individuals committing this kind of atrocity.

That is a good point. Then again, where did he get that kind of money? French police indicate that he was a short haul trucker (and not an owner operator at that). Furthermore, he could well have been sporadically employed.

There have been other people arrested in connection to the attack, ML was part of a group of some sort. Maybe the local group offered the blood money, or ML embezzled the jihad funds from his local group and sent them to his family?

This is the definition of true love what a tragedy. I can't imagine how this Lady must be feeling the distress is unimaginable. I hope and pray their baby is born healthy.

His uncle lives in Italy and it was said he knows the area. There is also a male student missing from Canada. I just can't figure out what happened to them both.

It is baffling what has happened to Nick Leslie if he was genuinely seen 10 minutes from the site of this tragedy. I feel so sad for the young child severely injured in hospital with no loved ones to visit them too.

All of these people pictured are MISSING? Were they injured so badly they can't be identified? This is unbelievable! It mirrors the World Trade Center and people that were searching for relatives. Hopefully most of these people just haven't been able to contact relatives yet.
