FRANCE - Truck drives into crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, 2016 *Guilty*

That article is precisely what I meant about sensationalized, irresponsible reporting. No other publication in the world that I'm aware of has claimed he said any such thing.

And, because ISIS supporters are celebrating doesn't mean ISIS had anything to do with what happened.

What does seem increasingly obvious, though, is that ISIS's amorphous agenda is serving as a convenient rationale for madmen to reach for to justify their acts of barbarism.

That makes for two separate problems, IMO. How to handle the real threat posed by genuine radical Islamic terrorists, and how to respond to the barbaric acts of the deranged who use that ideology as a cover and an "excuse."

Bouhlel mounted the pavement, mowing down groups at 40mph, before reportedly jumping out of the truck and opening fire as he shouted “Allahu Akbar” – God is greatest.

From there, the Tunisian native tore through the crowds, crushing revelers of all ages as he shouted “Allahu Akbar!” — Arabic for “God is great!”

French media have identified the Nice attacked as 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel. Witnesses report that Bouhlel yelled “Allahu akbar” before the attack began.

The attack was carried out by a Muslim migrant who reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he murdered scores of civilians, including children and infants.

The al-Aamaq statement read "The car ramming attack carried out in Nice, France was done by an ISIS soldier. He carried out this action in response to a call to attack members of the coalition who are attacking the Islamic State."

A short while later the terror group issued another statement, saying that the "crusader states" (the coalition and the West –ed) aren't immune ISIS fighters.

bbm, excuse me.

The truck driver, who was known to police, was said to have shouted 'Allahu Akbar' – God is great in Arabic – before being killed in a clear suicide mission. Pro-ISIS groups have been celebrating the attack, orchestrated to coincide with France's most important national holiday.

Nobody is saying that this was not an Islamically motivated terror attack. Rather, they are saying is that the terrorist went from being a beer drinking petty criminal who probably only generally knew its Ramadan type guy to a raging jihader very quickly.

At the end of the day, radical Islam offers alot of personal identity as a member of a small, "elite" group. Thus, the movement can attract alot of people who are drifting though life and not going anywhere fast. They then want to find a new identity and recreate themselves as a jihader. Later, they launch a horrific attack.

My guess is that Omar Mateen was also this type. He tried to become a police officer, but failed several times. Tried marriage, but failed a couple of times. He was at times, openly religous- but was also known for drinking alcohol in gay bars. He then recreates himself as a jihader and launches a terror attack.

I should have said no non-tabloid, reputable source, eh? ;)

The "quickly radicalized" line says it all, IMO. A drinking, violent, unreligious, mentally unbalanced, psychopathic SOB may (or may not have, waiting for actual evidence) in his final days have claimed identification with a psychopathic terrorist group in order to rationalize a barbaric act.

In terms of carnage inflicted there is no difference between ideological terrorists and the deranged who conveniently claim affiliation when about to commit mass murder, but there IS a difference, and an important one, when it comes to policy and strategy.

That is ISIS propaganda. The psych op experts in ISIS are masters at exploiting the public's fears to aggrandise their org.

Bastille Day terrorist Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel demanded the 'heaviest and most powerful' lorry from a rental company so he could kill the maximum number of people, the garage boss has revealed.
(...)
The ISIS killer collected the deadly lorry from the Via Location premises, in a picturesque rural village in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, which is surrounded by farmland about 30 minutes west of Nice.
(...)
After collecting the deadly lorry, Bouhlel parked it in a suburban street on the eastern side of the city, inside the cordon that was set up for the evening's firework display.
(...)
At 9:04pm, the drug-fuelled fanatic was caught on camera as he cycled up to the lorry, threw his bicycle in the back and drove off in the direction of the famous Promenade Des Anglais, where the festivities were taking place.

ISIS killer Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel sent his family £84,000 just days before his Bastille Day atrocity, his brother told MailOnline.
The Islamic fanatic persuaded friends to smuggle the bundles of cash back to his family in their hometown of Msaken, Tunisia.
Although Bouhlel had been sending small sums of money to his family, his brother admitted that they were stunned by the size of the 'fortune'.

The average Tunisian monthly income is 2427 TND or £ 835 or $1101

This money could well be blood money that terror groups pay to their members who commit "martyrdom attacks". The money gives the assurance that their family will be taken care of after their death. As a result, it is easier for the terror groups to recruit people for suicide attacks.

In this case what his family says is supported by others, including neighbors, shopkeeps, bartenders, his police record, and the fact there is absolutely zero evidence he was religious, much less "radicalized."

It would be interesting to see his internet history and videos on his computer as all it takes is a computer and an Internet connection to become radicalised and feel compelled to commit terrorist acts.

I think ISIS would be claiming 100% direct responsibility had they paid him that much money. They aren't, IMO because they didn't.

IMO "becoming radicalized" is being used so loosely as to be meaningless as a descriptor of the who and why of deranged individuals committing this kind of atrocity.

This SOB first and primarily was unbalanced and violent. Religion of any kind was obviously unimportant to him up until the end, if it was even then.

How strange, so he definitely made it 10 minutes away from the scene? Did his phone die and he was lost? How long could he stay lost for though unless he was also injured in some way?

His uncle lives in Italy and it was said he knows the area. There is also a male student missing from Canada. I just can't figure out what happened to them both.

That is a good point. Then again, where did he get that kind of money? French police indicate that he was a short haul trucker (and not an owner operator at that). Furthermore, he could well have been sporadically employed.

There have been other people arrested in connection to the attack, ML was part of a group of some sort. Maybe the local group offered the blood money, or ML embezzled the jihad funds from his local group and sent them to his family?

This is the definition of true love what a tragedy. I can't imagine how this Lady must be feeling the distress is unimaginable. I hope and pray their baby is born healthy.

It is baffling what has happened to Nick Leslie if he was genuinely seen 10 minutes from the site of this tragedy. I feel so sad for the young child severely injured in hospital with no loved ones to visit them too.

A "drug fueled" radical Islamist makes about as much sense as a pacifist wielding a loaded machine gun.

All of these people pictured are MISSING? Were they injured so badly they can't be identified? This is unbelievable! It mirrors the World Trade Center and people that were searching for relatives. Hopefully most of these people just haven't been able to contact relatives yet.
