FRANCE - Truck drives into crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, 2016 *Guilty*

A false choice in this instance. Sure hope reformist Muslims can be part of a larger solution to the problem of terrorism, but this massacre had nothing to do with any religion, or anything larger than the twisted mind of one sickeningly violent individual.

I am not sure any of us can say that with any certainty when the ongoing investigation has just begun. I think the Nice investigators will find plenty on his computer and other electronic devises that shows this was a angry Muslim extremist.

I don't think this was at all about being depressed over his divorce. He had been divorced from his wife for two years and was eyeing other women. If that were remotely true he easily could have gone and killed her instead of totally innocent people while yelling Allah Akbar.

Just like Maajid Nawaz said in his piece the Christian Crusaders weren't all that big into being good Christians either but that didn't stop their ideology and them using that to murder innocent others in the name of Christianity.

I think Mr. Nawaz has it right and I am glad for once he is not trying to run from the reason this happened. In fact he is trying to expose the radical Muslim extremists instead of like he said, pretending all Muslims are perfect.

Nice killer's father says son had a nervous breakdown
Agence France Presse has spoken to the killer's father Mohamed Mondher Lahouaiej-Bouhlel.

He said the family took Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel to a doctor who prescribed medication to counter his depression.

Lahouaiej-Bouhlel described his son as "always alone, always depressed" and not wanting to talk.

The white-haired father said the family in Tunisia had almost no contact with his son after he left for France, but he could not say when exactly this was.

"When he left for France we heard nothing more from him," he insisted.

The father also insisted that his son "had no links to religion".

"He didn't pray, he didn't fast, he drank alcohol and even used drugs."

He had been in France for ten years hadn't he? If so, his father really knows nothing about him.

IMO

Snip

The six Gulf Arab states issued a joint statement saying that they "strongly" condemned the "terrorist" act in Nice.

"The Gulf Cooperation Council states stand in solidarity with the French republic following this cowardly criminal incident whose perpetrators have been stripped of all moral and human values," the bloc's chief Abdullatif al-Zayani said.

That's a lovely gesture. Words are not enough.

Please stop saying the Nice attacks have nothing to do with Islam

Maajid Nawaz

So please stop denying the nature of jihadism. Please stop ignoring the narratives which drive these attacks. Instead of aiding extremists who insist Islam today is perfect, perhaps you should aid us beleaguered reformist Muslims who are attempting to address this crisis within Islam against all the odds.

OMG, I think I'm in love--he's awesome He's also right it is going to be a long difficult process with the percentages that think suicide bombings can be justified.

Saw someone say on twitter they can see how Hitler was able to do such evil deeds. People look the other way, make excuses or deny what is happening.

Not to dive into this deep end of debate, but is that church in kansas that protests at servicemen's funerals claiming god want's americans to be killed because we are a cess pool represent all christians? how about eric rudolf who bombed abortion clinics for christianity, or the man who shot the abortion doctor in Kansas? I could go on. But why are they not the sum of christians if islamic terrorist are the sum of islam. The truth is islam is where christianity was 400 years ago, when you could be burned at the stake, or dragged through the street, hung, or drawn and quartered for heresy or whatever the church thought made you deserve it. I wish islam had advanced, in fact i wish all humans would face the fact religion is made up. ANother topic. Any time you think some supreme being gives you the right to kill you are in trouble. I have known a lot of muslims and many more christians of course. none who would hurt a hair on your head. religion is the root of all evil. Yes I said it. And i will not apologize. If you can ridicule islam I can ridicule your silly myth, and they are all silly myths. I am so sorry for these deaths. I am so sorry for all of these senseless killings. get off your high horse christians. you are no different. your history proves that. I am so sorry humans are so stupid.

With all due respect & BBM

I am appalled at your statement pointing fingers at Christians, my faith in God is by far NOT A MYTH and telling me I'm no different than some crazed evil Muslin that comes into My Country, the USA and blows up planes, killing dozens of innocent civilians?????

I have several friends whose faith is totally different from mine and I NEVER once said their beliefs were a myth.

I am a born again Christian, saved by the Grace of God and I am not stupid by any means. And I will never apologize for my statement.

Your post will most likely get me on time out or worse, even banned but my religion has never taught me but to love one another and be kind to people you come in contact with.

Why are you even sorry for deaths and isn't that a bit ackward to just what you called "something as a silly myth?"

Young families with children targets of Nice attack

Unlike the millennials out on the town who were targeted by squads of gunmen and suicide bombers last November in Paris, Thursday’s attack in Nice struck an even softer target: young families with kids.

“It was supposed to be family fun, but it didn’t turn out like that,” said Monica Leclerc, a divorced mother of three, whose children were spared the night’s horrors because they stayed with their father an extra day instead of joining her on the Promenade des Anglias.

From your article--so happy to see this.
Nice has been on high alert for more than a month for the Euro 2016 soccer tournament, and many people were angered that such an attack was still allowed to occur.

When Hollande arrived in Nice to visit victims in hospital, the crowds booed his motorcade.

“I’m furious. I don’t want to live in a country where my children can’t go outside, where we can’t enjoy ourselves in public without fear. The government has to do something,” said Leclerc, the mother of three.

Timothy McVeigh

And Adam Lanza. Nothing changed after that, either. Nothing ever does. And the problem with Muslim extremism, or any religious extremism, is that it's so diffuse. There's no real way to definitively eradicate it. There isn't one country, one region, one or even several targets that can be overpowered and "transformed." This is religion. And with religion, no one ever believes THEY are the bad guy. So there's no incentive to change your ways or thinking as long as you "know" in your heart that you are doing "God's", "Allah's", "Whatever's" will. This is an impossible situation.

Worst in what sense?
Every flight in or out of CDG is delayed. In that sense, yes. I try to avoid that airport at all cost.

I was at CDG in June and the problems may have to do with the logistics of getting too and from the airport. You also have to take a shuttle just to board the plane and most stay in hotels by airport because getting in to Paris with your bags is difficult. The trains were a huge nightmare because they had a strike and only 1 train per hour when it was normally 1 every 8 min. so people piled onto platforms trying to squeeze onto train already packed, plus it is a 30 min. ride to Paris.
Security was not tight at CDG.
