This is going to have a real chilling effect on security here in the U.S.A.. Any nutcase with access to a large (or small) vehicle now has a new weapon in the arsenal on how to commit a mass killing without having to do much more than fill up his weapon with gasoline. I'd say it's almost a sure thing that there'll be copycats.

I have no idea how LE can even begin to protect against something like this, since it could be attempted on any busy street at any time of the day where there is a lot of pedestrian foot traffic.

In hindsight, it's obvious that certain things might have made a difference, such as barricading the promenade area from any vehicular travel. Of course had that been done, this guy would've just moved to the next street over, which was also full of pedestrians.

All of the metal detectors, bomb sniffing dogs, and gun background checks available would be totally ineffective against an attack such as this. There's a lot of debate right now about gun control and limiting peoples access to weapons. What we have here is a way for someone who can't get their hands on a weapon to still achieve their goal. It's not just Islamic extremist we have to worry about, it's anybody that is mentally unstable and has access to a 5000# vehicle.

How do we protect against it ? No idea............................

How do we go about rooting out the people that may be of this mindset ? No idea...........

FYI this is common terror practice in the Middle East. Has been for years
One might wonder why it took so long for the habit to catch up in the West.

With all due respect & BBM

I am appalled at your statement pointing fingers at Christians, my faith in God is by far NOT A MYTH and telling me I'm no different than some crazed evil Muslin that comes into My Country, the USA and blows up planes, killing dozens of innocent civilians?????

I have several friends whose faith is totally different from mine and I NEVER once said their beliefs were a myth.

I am a born again Christian, saved by the Grace of God and I am not stupid by any means. And I will never apologize for my statement.

Your post will most likely get me on time out or worse, even banned but my religion has never taught me but to love one another and be kind to people you come in contact with.

Why are you even sorry for deaths and isn't that a bit ackward to just what you called "something as a silly myth?"

No JMO required

With all due respect, I totally agree with mrseeker.

ISIS sure is eager to take some credit for the carnage. But it just isn't so.

His family has given interviews. His sister says he had never been in a mosque his whole life and wasn't religious at all. She says he was mentally ill, "disturbed," violent. His father says his son was depressed, and had a "nervous breakdown."

He wasn't a terrorist in the political sense of the word.

bbm, I for one do not believe family or friends of any suspect, much less this one. Of course they want to distance themselves from him, I haven't seen one terrorist family come out and say they saw it coming and I don't think I ever will. The minute they say that, they will be arrested and they know it. jmo

The media works overtime to protect the Metanarrative that there is " no common denominator."The carnage at Ft Hood was "workplace violence." The Islamist terrorist at the Orlando nightclub was just "a Gay guy" himself who might have been spurned st the nightclub. Remember how someone popped up to make that claim? Now, oh, Mohamed was not religious, just a bad guy.

All these horrific attacks...one common denominator...a fanatic ideology. But no...our media wants us to be confused and distracted.

Conveniently, the Media pushes this "agenda" by finding someone to say..."oh, he was not religious."

Very few are falling for this anymore.

Imagine if all over the world, individuals who belonged to evangelical churches were killing masses of people at abortion clinics. Can you imagine the media claiming there was no religious connection? " Oh no, Josiah wasn't religious, supported a woman's right to choose...was upset because his girlfriend jilted him." Heres a witness that says he never went to church and watched 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

Really? Would the media do that?

Come on. That would never happen. But in these cases, watch for it.

Hints of the horror to come.
From now on, if a truck or other vehicle makes suspicious/ erratic moves like this one did, especially near crowds, it should be stopped, to heck with r. profiling, imo.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36801671
A large white lorry was seen driving erratically a couple of streets away from the seafront promenade. "He was speeding up, braking, speeding up again and braking again. We thought it was weird," said Laicia Baroi. She described how the lorry then turned on to the promenade heading south-west towards the airport.

But it was not for another half hour before the attack began. A German journalist saw events unfold from a hotel balcony, as the lorry doubled back from the direction of the airport, breaching the barriers erected on the promenade opposite the Lenval children's hospital.
rbbm.

In this case what his family says is supported by others, including neighbors, shopkeeps, bartenders, his police record, and the fact there is absolutely zero evidence he was religious, much less "radicalized."

Interesting. What I see is the opposite, that MSM in the US and abroad in Western countries inevitably and immediately pushes the terrorist narrative before any facts are known, as do the politicians of a certain ideological persuasion, here and in Europe.

The threat terrorism poses is real enough, imo, without us attributing that motive to the apolitical acts of the violent and deranged.

bbm, excuse me.

The truck driver, who was known to police, was said to have shouted 'Allahu Akbar' – God is great in Arabic – before being killed in a clear suicide mission. Pro-ISIS groups have been celebrating the attack, orchestrated to coincide with France's most important national holiday.

I agree steelman, this method of attack is very difficult to prevent. All it takes is someone with an imagination and and a mission to create havoc and the possibilities are limitless. Imo, it is just a matter of time before hijacked propane tankers or other means of mass casualties are utilized. The Nice terrorist attack was not the first time a vehicle was used in France.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/world...icle-used-weapon-terror-attack-history-method

France attack: Nice was the FOURTH time a vehicle has been used as a weapon in France

THE deadly truck rampage in Nice last night came after three other "suspected Islamist militants" used motor vehicles to cause carnage within the past year and a half.

I'm really sad to see the turn that this thread has taken, for a couple of reasons. 1. I think it's on it's way to being locked and we haven't even learned of all the victims. 2. I'm seeing statements that exist solely for chastising ones beliefs. Why can't we just take things at face value and call a spade a spade? Radicalized Muslims are increasingly attacking people around the world. Does the mean all muslims are evil? Surely not. But that is whats happening. And since it's being done in the basis of religion, no matter how warped or how little changed you believe it to be to fit the agenda, that is a crucial component to the puzzle.

But with all these attacks I see conversations that are borderline ridiculous and becomes a historical pissing match of comparing religious violence. Try having that conversation replacing religious identifiers with some other idealogical value. Attacks from capitalist are increasing and spreading through the world. All capitalist are inherently evil. No! Some capitalist are evil, they have just got mixed in with some people who twist the principles of capitalism. And remember, socialist have done some very bad things too, in the name of socialism. But we are talking about capitalists. Still, look at all the things other people have done. You are all silly, even the countless examples of people who use these thoughts to do good, your beliefs are ridiculous, money doesn't exist so everything you believe is pointless.

Over 80 people are deceased. Many others maimed. Loved ones searching and calling friends and family members who will never pick up, leaving echoes of unanswered ringtones in the world. Many of those are from the very religions being debated, criticized and chastised. Yet they never did anything horrible in the name of their belief. Please remember that.

In these instances, the writings before his killing rampage of Major Hussan...the conversations with police during the seige by the Orlando mass killer...the FB postings of the San Bernadino terrorist...the shouting of "Allah Ackbar" as the killings were occurring in Nice...point clearly to a commonality of ideology. They tie in with the heinous purposes of the 9-11 hijackers...those who blew up the London subways...the Charlie Hebdo massacres...the previous attacks in Paris.

Diversions are impossible anymore.

As are attempts to hide from us the true barabarity of these attacks. Now we learn of eyes gouged out, castrations, the most inhumane torture...this is defining and crucial for the whole world to know.

That article is precisely what I meant about sensationalized, irresponsible reporting. No other publication in the world that I'm aware of has claimed he said any such thing.

And, because ISIS supporters are celebrating doesn't mean ISIS had anything to do with what happened.

What does seem increasingly obvious, though, is that ISIS's amorphous agenda is serving as a convenient rationale for madmen to reach for to justify their acts of barbarism.

That makes for two separate problems, IMO. How to handle the real threat posed by genuine radical Islamic terrorists, and how to respond to the barbaric acts of the deranged who use that ideology as a cover and an "excuse."

The full barbarity of ISIS has been presented to the public from the very beginning. It's always been possible to follow links in online news stories to videos of beheadings and worse.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to watch such utterly nightmarish evil, but it's there, not concealed in the least.

Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel was a sadistic psychopath! He mowed down innocent men, women and children, he saw the look of horror and pain in their faces, he was so near to them when he took their lives and he didn't falter for a moment! He was nothing more than a monster and a coward!!

My heart goes out to the people of France, especially to the families of the dead and injured. I visited their wonderful country back in 2003 and had such a lovely time. How times have changed.

Attacker in Nice is said to have radicalized ‘very rapidly’

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...27456e-4ab9-11e6-8dac-0c6e4accc5b1_story.html

NICE, France — The Islamic State on Saturday claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 84 in this coastal French city, the organization’s news agency said Saturday, as France’s top cop announced for the first time investigators believed the attacker had been “radicalized.”

It remains unclear whether the Islamic State directed the attack, was taking responsibility for an assault it inspired, or was simply seeking publicity from an event that it had no direct hand in.

“It seems” that the attacker, Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, 31, “radicalized his views very rapidly. These are the first elements that our investigation has come up with through interviews with his acquaintances,” French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Saturday, without offering further details. So far, five people have been detained for questioning in the case.

Good Afternoon to all of you, I think I have written this before, in the thread about the Orlando killer, so excuse me for repeating myself, but it is entirely possible to lead a life of sex, drugs and rock & roll with lots of booze and pork, either as a permissible disguise (taqiyya) or in order to convert, pledge allegiance to ISZIS and die in a suicide attack, all within 60 seconds.

However, this person probably planned the attack, because he rented the truck days before, he had guns and so on.

I have to tell you that I lost a friendship over the discussion about religion, because the other person was very religious herself and identified very much with being religious and she applied this to all religions. She conntected with others on the basis of religion, she saw this as something that others and herself had in common, even if the religion of the other was geared towards limiting her own freedom. Like making all infidels pay taxes among the ultimate goals.
That at least was my interpretation of her viewpoint and it meant that we never could have a real discussion, and that meant the end of the friendship. Because I also started out on the notion that alle people and religions were equal, but by and large I have come to agree that not all religions agree, and there are ideologies that hide as a religion but have a different, worldwide agenda underneath.

And I am sorry about losing the friendship over this, because she was a nice person, her religion meant a lot to her and it gave her a purpose and joy in life.

So I would like to share with you some remarks about the different meanings of religion that I found on Twitter the other day. I haven't found the original quote or where it came from, but by itself it is enlightening. It is about salafism, but it's application goes further than that, and I hope this helps.
